Chapter 137 Secretly Getting the Marriage Certificate

At the White Manor...

Grace was leaning back in her chair reading a book when Andy suddenly knocked and entered, his expression complex. "Mrs. White, Roman is back."

"Yes," Grace replied without looking up.

Andy glanced at her and continued, "Roman also brought Miss Martin."

Grace showed no surprise and instructed Andy, "You deal with it. I don't want to see her."

Andy looked troubled. "Mrs. White, I think you might need to go down yourself this time. Roman and Miss Martin have registered their marriage."

Grace placed her book face down on the table, her expression cold. "He's really something. All my previous warnings were in vain."

Andy shook his head helplessly.

Who could have thought that Roman would be so stubborn and insist on marrying Jessica?

Grace removed her glasses and set them aside before slowly rising. "Let's go downstairs and take a look. After all, it's Mrs. Jessica White's first visit to the White family. We should be polite."

Andy couldn't guess what Grace was thinking, so he just followed her downstairs.

Downstairs...

Roman sat on the couch, feeling anxious, glancing toward the staircase from time to time.

For some reason, ever since they got the marriage license from the county clerk, his eyelids had been twitching non-stop, as if he had a bad premonition.

Jessica, however, didn't notice his unease and was immersed in her own emotions.

If she had known it would be so easy to marry into the White family, she would have had Roman steal the documents long ago.

Fortunately, it wasn't too late now.

She was now officially Mrs. Jessica White, a member of the White family.

Roman was the eldest grandson, and Gregory seemed to have some illness that prevented him from having children. Wouldn't the company be handed over to Roman in the future?

By then, her name would be associated with the White Group as well!

She was lost in her fantasies, feeling very excited.

When that day came, the first thing she would do was kick Abigail out of the White family!

A servant came out of the dining room, bringing a fruit platter and pouring warm water for the two of them.

Jessica picked up the water cup, took a sip, and showed her disdain. "It's too hot. Can you get me a cup of warm water?"

The servant's face turned pale, and she quickly apologized. "Miss Martin, I'm sorry. I'll get you another cup."

Jessica snorted coldly and handed over the cup.

The servant took it with a frown. Having worked for the White family for so many years, she knew well the difference between warm and hot water. The water was clearly warm.

But she didn't dare to ask more and just poured another cup.

When the servant carefully brought it over, Jessica complained that it was too cold.

The servant was too scared to speak but felt a bit displeased inside.

Jessica's first words upon entering the White family were, "Hello, I have now registered my marriage with Roman. From now on, I am the mistress of the White family. Nice to meet you."

Her attitude was arrogant and presumptuous, as if the White family were already under her control. Everything she did seemed aimed at establishing her authority.

What a joke. Grace was still alive, and Mrs. Abigail White was there too. How could it be Jessica's turn to act so arrogantly?

Roman frowned disapprovingly and reminded her, "Don't be so unreasonable. Grace already has issues with you."

Jessica's eyes instantly reddened, and she said aggrievedly, "Roman, am I not telling the truth? After Mrs. Grace White passes away, this house will definitely be handed over to you. My future happiness depends on you!"

Roman's expression changed, and he quickly covered Jessica's mouth.

But it was too late.

Grace came down the stairs just in time to hear that sentence.

She sneered and mocked, "What? It's your first day visiting, and you're already wishing for my death?"

Jessica's face turned pale, and she hurriedly stood up, stammering, "Mrs. Grace White, that's not what I meant. Don't misunderstand!"

Grace interrupted her, her gaze icy. "Enough. I don't care what you mean. I hope you can behave yourself in the future and not cause trouble."

Her demands of Jessica were few, likely because she doubted Jessica could handle more.

As for other things, some matters were already settled, and even if she wanted to stop them, it was too late.

Jessica obediently agreed, but she felt very disdainful inside.

Grace was indeed very biased. She was gentle and kind to Abigail but always had a stern face and warnings for her.

One day, she would drive Grace out!

...

With Jessica and the Martin family "accidentally" spreading the news, it soon became widely known that Jessica and Roman had registered their marriage.

Everyone was incredulous, not understanding why Grace would agree to let Jessica marry in.

Some insiders revealed that Grace had never agreed from the beginning, but Roman had been determined.

For a while, there were many opinions.

Some looked down on Jessica's background, thinking she was marrying up into the White family.

Some were envious and jealous, convinced they were superior to Jessica and wondering why such an opportunity hadn’t come their way.

...

The news soon reached Gregory and Abigail.

Abigail pressed her red lips together, silent, lost in thought.

Gregory noticed her expression and thought she was still upset about Roman, feeling a bit frustrated.

He suppressed his jealousy and bitterness, asking softly, "Abigail, what are you thinking about?"

Abigail noticed his unhappy face and quickly explained, "Don't overthink. I'm just worried about Mom. She's not in good health, and Roman's repeated defiance must be making her very sad."

Hearing Abigail's response, Gregory finally felt relieved. He said, "You're right. Let's go visit her in a couple of days."

"Okay!" Abigail nodded.

Gregory's heart softened upon seeing Abigail's obedient demeanor.

He stretched out his long arm and pulled Abigail into his embrace.

He could clearly feel that Abigail's heart was gradually leaning toward him, but what he wanted was far more than that.

Perhaps people were greedy. He had her, but he still longed for more.

He hoped that one day, Abigail would completely belong to him.
