Chapter 144 Parental Love

Ever since Grace married into the White family, her life had been very tough.

George was handsome and came from a good family, but his one flaw was his inability to remain faithful.

Grace was attracted to his talent and looks and married him against all odds.

When they first got married, George spoiled her and promised to love her forever. But a man's words were ultimately unreliable.

After she gave birth to a White heir, Stephen, George began to change. He went through numerous women, fathering many illegitimate children, and allowed them to bully Grace.

Grace wanted a divorce, but George refused.

Since then, they started sleeping in separate rooms because Grace couldn't accept George touching her after being with other women.

George, being so proud, couldn't stand being treated coldly.

So, he forced himself on her while drunk.

Later, Grace got pregnant.

At that time, she was almost fifty, and everyone thought the child wouldn't survive. But he miraculously did.

When Gregory reached an age where he could comprehend, those illegitimate children taunted him, claiming he was unworthy of the title "Mr. Gregory White of the White family."

Almost everyone could insult him at will.

...

Recalling those past events, Gregory shut his eyes tightly, trying to suppress the memories. He withheld the rest of the story from Abigail, fearing that her gaze might reveal even a hint of disdain.

Call him selfish or greedy, but from the moment he brought Abigail home, he secretly vowed never to let her go.

Abigail didn't expect Grace to have gone through so many hardships. No wonder there was always a hint of sadness in her eyes; she must have been deeply hurt, right?

Seeing Abigail remain silent, Gregory took her hand and said softly, "It's understandable that you're unfamiliar with these details. Since I took over the White Group, I’ve removed all the descendants who weren't related to my mother by blood."

Abigail pondered and asked, "Does that mean you're the youngest of all the children?"

Gregory chuckled helplessly. "That's what you're focusing on?"

Abigail replied, "What then?"

Gregory said, "I thought you'd praise your husband for being so capable, kicking out all those descendants who had no blood relation to my mother."

Abigail blinked. "Is it too late to praise you now?"

"It's not too late. Go ahead, I'm listening!" Gregory leaned lazily against the back of the seat, his distinct fingers lightly tapping on the steering wheel.

He looked casual and indifferent.

Abigail thought for a moment and said sweetly, "You're the smartest, most capable, and most faithful man in the world."

Gregory couldn't help but laugh.

He never knew that such ordinary words could sound so pleasant.

When the car reached the next intersection and stopped at a red light, Gregory slowly leaned over and kissed Abigail's lips.

His kiss came so suddenly that Abigail was completely unprepared.

She instinctively wanted to pull back, but Gregory's large, warm hand held the back of her head.

It wasn't until a honking sound came from behind that Gregory let her go and restarted the engine.

Abigail touched her flushed cheeks and whispered, "Why do you kiss me out of nowhere?"

Upon hearing this, Gregory's smile deepened.

He reached out and ruffled Abigail's hair. "Silly."

Abigail could always easily dispel the gloom in his heart and bring light back to his world.

Not understanding why Gregory's eyes suddenly showed a hint of sadness and loneliness, she changed the subject. "You said men are greedy, what about you?"

Gregory glanced at her, his thin lips slightly curved. "I'm different from them. If I commit, I'll only be faithful to one person."

Abigail looked at him suspiciously. "Really?"

"Don't believe me?" Gregory asked with a smile.

Abigail propped her chin and looked at him. "I believe actions more than words."

Promises were the least valuable things in this world; she didn't believe in promises.

Gregory nodded. "Okay, I'll remember that."

He would prove with his actions that he was more suitable for Abigail than anyone else.

Abigail suddenly remembered something and asked him, "You haven't answered my question yet. Are you the youngest in the White family?"

"Not exactly, there are younger ones. I gave them a large sum of money to ensure they never appear in front of me or my mother again."

Anyone with a bit of sense would know that offending him wouldn't end well.

So almost everyone had taken the money.

Abigail nodded and comforted him, "Since they took the money, it means they voluntarily gave up returning to the White family. From now on, they have nothing to do with you, which is good."

She now felt even more sympathy for Grace and Gregory.

The debts George had incurred in his lifetime now had to be borne by Grace and Gregory.

...

Olivia had no idea what was happening at the White Manor. To avoid being found by Gregory's people, she had turned off her phone's location and found a small motel.

The motel was old and shabby, not fit for human habitation.

The room was small, the bed was hard, and the soundproofing was terrible.

Staying there at night, she could clearly hear the sounds from the next room: the man's heavy breathing mixed with the woman's moans, making her blush.

She silently told herself to endure a little longer.

Gregory was still angry; she couldn't show up easily.

After hiding for a while, she would pretend to be sick. With Elaine's help, Gregory wouldn't dare do anything to her!

Olivia kept comforting herself until she finally fell asleep near dawn.

By noon the next day, she was so hungry that she had to go out to find food.

Small motels were troublesome; not only were the living conditions poor, but they also didn't offer room service.

In the past, she wouldn't have even glanced at such a place.

She left with a look of disdain and went to a nearby snack shop to buy food.

Before she could step inside, however, two bodyguards in black suits approached her. "Ms. Parker, please come with us."

Olivia suppressed her panic and pretended to be calm. "Who are you? I don't know you!"

The bodyguard said, "It doesn't matter if you don't know us, we're just following orders."

With that, they grabbed Olivia's arm, trying to take her away.

She was shocked and struggled desperately, shouting, "Do you know who I am? Who sent you? What do you want? Be careful, I'll sue you for kidnapping!"

"Go ahead and sue if you can win," one of the bodyguards said.

The White Group had the top legal team in Aramore, even Capitise. To sue them, she'd have to see if Gregory would allow it.

Olivia was terrified, but she couldn't fight against the two burly bodyguards.

She softened her tone and pleaded, "Please, let me go."

She absolutely couldn't face Gregory, absolutely not!

Gregory knew she had drugged him and had wanted to strangle her that night.

The bruises on her neck from being strangled hadn't even faded yet.

No matter how much she pleaded, the bodyguards didn't relent, only saying coldly, "Don't force us to use tough measures."
