Chapter 384 So Proactive, Did You Miss Me?
Stephen frowned at the hand clutching his pant leg. Ignoring Elaine's pleas, he shook her off and sat on the sofa. Despite his thin frame, his noble demeanor was unmistakable.
In stark contrast to the disheveled and haggard Elaine, it was as if they were from completely different worlds.
Stephen began to speak to himself, his eyes somewhat unfocused, as if lost in some memory, "Do you remember when we first met? Every time you saw me, your cheeks would turn red. I thought back then, how could there be such an interesting girl."
Elaine's eyelashes trembled at Stephen's words, stirring memories of her youth. From their first meeting, she knew he was extraordinary and dreamed of marrying him, envisioning herself in high society. But how could a man like Stephen, who had known countless women, ever notice her?
To achieve her goal, she had to resort to underhanded means.
Stephen continued, "Although I never had feelings for you, once I married you, I would fulfill my responsibilities as a husband."
Originally, they could have lived a peaceful life. Although there was no love, Elaine's days wouldn't have been too bad.
But unexpectedly, Elaine was too greedy.
Elaine closed her eyes tightly, hiding the endless regret in them. "What do you want to say? That I brought this on myself? But I don't regret it at all. If I had to do it all over again, I would make the same decision."
She just wanted to fight for more benefits for herself. What was wrong with that?
If it weren't for Michelle not understanding boundaries and insisting on staying by Stephen's side, she wouldn't have thought of using drugs.
Stephen took a deep breath. The last bit of sympathy and pity he had in his heart completely disappeared at this moment. "Do you know why I came to see you this time?"
Elaine blinked in confusion but didn't speak.
Stephen sneered, looking at her with intense mockery in his eyes. "Abigail called, saying the conflict was over and asking me to let you go."
Elaine was stunned for a moment, then shook her head vigorously. "No, that's impossible. How could Abigail say something like that? You must be lying to me!"
Abigail hated her so much; how could she be willing to let her go?
Stephen asked, "Do you think everyone is as vengeful as you? It was Roman who pleaded with Abigail for you. You always say you don't regret anything you've done, but what about Roman? What does he mean to you?"
Hearing her son's name, Elaine was once again stunned.
However, Stephen didn't want to waste any more words with her. He directly dialed a number and instructed, "Send a few people over here. I have something to arrange."
Half an hour later, Stephen's subordinates arrived and, following his instructions, took Elaine away.
Roman received a call and rushed over.
When he saw the almost unrecognizable, barely standing Elaine, tears nearly fell from his eyes.
On the other side, during a meeting, Abigail forgot to mute her phone, and it dinged with a new message.
She opened it and saw a text: [I'm Roman. Thank you.]
Staring at the thank you message for a moment, Abigail casually turned off her phone and continued listening to her subordinates' reports.
After the meeting ended, Abigail pointed out a few mistakes and areas for improvement, then dismissed everyone.
Lily organized the meeting materials and placed them on Abigail's desk. "Ms. Martin, if there's nothing else, I'll head out."
"Alright, be safe on your way home." Abigail worked a bit longer, tidied up her desk, and was about to leave when she opened the door and bumped into someone.
Mireille clutched her forehead in pain, gasping. "What's wrong with you? Why weren't you looking? It hurts so much!"
Abigail touched her own forehead, a bit speechless. "I was about to ask you the same thing. Why are you here? Haven't you left yet?"
Being questioned like this, Mireille felt a bit guilty. "I was waiting to leave with you. Quinn said he had something to do tonight and would be back late. Can I go home with you first?"
Abigail found it odd. "No one is at Quinn's place?"
Mentioning this, Mireille got a bit angry. "I don't know how he manages to live like this. His place is so cold and empty, it doesn't feel like a home at all. There are so many rules, you can't touch this, you can't move that. I don't know who could stand him!"
Just one night there scared her. Quinn's house was so empty, the huge villa nearly devoid of furniture, making it even eerier. She couldn't sleep there alone.
Abigail raised an eyebrow slightly. "I didn't expect the headstrong Mireille to be afraid of being home alone?"
Mireille's face turned red, feeling a bit wronged. "So what if I'm scared! I am scared, and you can't laugh at me!"
"Alright, I won't laugh."
Abigail shook her head helplessly, feeling that Mireille wasn't as annoying as she used to be.
She was even a bit cute?
Mireille had no idea that her headstrong image in front of Abigail had long disappeared. Seeing Abigail agree, she proudly raised her chin. "Let me tell you, I'm not asking for your help. I'm going to your place because I think highly of you."
Abigail nodded without changing her expression. "Well, should I thank you then?"
Mireille almost choked on her own saliva, feeling even more embarrassed. "No need, just don't kick me out."
Saying this, as if afraid her little thoughts would be seen through, she quickly walked ahead.
After dinner, Gregory finally finished his work and came back.
Abigail was sitting in the living room watching TV, already changed into a light green spaghetti strap nightgown. The hem of the dress swayed to her calves, revealing a slender ankle, her skin so fair it was almost dazzling, making her look even more delicate.
Gregory's gaze lingered on that ankle, feeling a sudden heat inside, and he raised his hand to loosen his tie.
Abigail noticed his heated gaze and opened her arms towards him. "You're back?"
"Yeah."
Gregory knelt on the sofa, still in his clothes, and draped his long arms over the back, enveloping Abigail's slender figure. She looked even more petite and charming as she tilted her head, wrapped an arm around his neck, and kissed the corner of his lips.
"So proactive, did you miss me?"
