Chapter 399 Caius Falls Ill
The next morning, after Abigail finished her meeting, Lily handed her the organized materials from the meeting. "Ms. Martin, I personally visited the supplier who was caught red-handed. What Tom said is indeed true."
Abigail paused slightly, her gaze gradually turning cold. "Talk to the head of that company. The contract clearly states that if there are quality issues, we have the right to terminate the contract and seek compensation."
"Yes, I'll handle it right away." Lily took her phone and jogged away.
Abigail returned to her office with the documents. As she sat down, her phone vibrated with an unknown number. Remembering David's previous call, she hesitated, then answered."Who is this?"
There was a moment of silence on the other end before a familiar voice spoke, "Abigail, long time no see."
"Jessica?" Abigail raised an eyebrow slightly. "What do you want?"
Jessica laughed smugly and got straight to the point. "Guess where I am right now? Aerilon. I've seen a lot of interesting things here."
"Like what?" Hearing that Jessica was in Aerilon, Abigail's eyes flickered, but she quickly regained her composure.
She lazily leaned back on the sofa, her sexy long dress clinging to her body, outlining her perfect curves. The dress had a cutout design at the waist, revealing a slender, fair section that was hard to look away from.
Jessica snorted, certain that Abigail's calm demeanor was a façade. How could she not be flustered knowing Jessica was in Aerilon? Had Abigail not blocked her on WhatsApp, Jessica would have video called just to savor her nervous reaction.
"Abigail, I saw a woman here who looks a lot like you. Actually, she looks more like your mother, Michelle. Are you interested?"
"Not interested. If there's nothing else, I'm hanging up. Do you know how much I make per minute with my current status? Can you afford to waste my time?"
"You!" Jessica tightened her grip on the phone, her eyes filled with anger. "Abigail, stop pretending. I don't believe you don't care at all about your mother!"
Hearing the sharp, piercing voice on the phone, Abigail winced and pulled it away, rubbing her ear. Jessica was the same as ever—sharp-tongued and unapologetically rude.
Once the buzzing in her ear subsided, Abigail spoke, "My mother? Go ahead, tell me what you know."
Convinced Abigail's disinterest was a pretense, Jessica smirked and revealed everything she had uncovered. "At a friend's party, I learned that the woman is Caius's ex-wife from the Worthington family. Yes, the Worthington family! I believe your mother didn't die but left you for a better life!"
Abigail tilted her head, blinking nonchalantly. "Why did you decide to investigate this? Did someone tell you something?"
"Of course, it was David..." Halfway through her sentence, Jessica realized she had fallen into a trap.
Having gotten the answer she wanted, Abigail lost her patience and hung up the phone.
She tossed the phone aside, sneering, her clear eyes filled with coldness. "David!"
At the hospital, David was undergoing a routine check-up by doctors and nurses when he suddenly felt a tickle in his nose and sneezed.
The doctor touched his forehead, confirming he didn't have a fever, and sighed in relief. "Mr. Martin, please stop causing trouble. Jessica won't come to see you again."
David, agitated, tried to sit up but was firmly pressed back by the doctor. "Mr. Martin, if you continue like this, we'll have to call the police to take you back."
Although David was staying in the hospital, it was under medical parole. His sentence wasn't over, and he could be sent back at any time once his condition improved.
Hearing this, David fell silent, like a rooster with its neck wrung. Satisfied her threat had worked, the nurse left him sulking on the hospital bed, his face dark.
On the other side, Abigail pondered for a long time before calling Leo. "Send some people to the airport. If you see any sign of Jessica, bring her to me immediately."
Although Leo was puzzled, he agreed.
After hanging up, Abigail sighed silently and called Caius.
The call was quickly answered, but the voice on the other end was hoarse, with a hint of weakness. "Abigail?"
Abigail was slightly stunned. "Are you sick?"
"It's nothing, just a small cold. Yesterday, I saw Michelle liked a flower on the mountain, so I picked some for her and caught a chill."
Abigail couldn't help but smile. "Why didn't you just send someone? Why go yourself?"
Caius, however, sensed a hint of concern in her words, which warmed his heart. "I thought it would be more sincere if I went myself. Michelle may seem calm and indifferent, but she actually likes little surprises."
He still remembered Michelle's radiant smile when she received the flowers last night—a moment he wanted to cherish forever.
Abigail felt a mix of emotions. She could see that Caius truly loved Michelle.
But the fact that he had hidden his identity was a thorn in her heart that she couldn't completely ignore.
"By the way, did you call for something? Get to the point. Michelle is making me some tonic and doesn't want me using my phone. I'm sneaking this call."
Abigail never thought she would still envy her parents' love after being married for so long.
Thinking of this, Abigail laughed. "If people knew you were so humble in private, your image would surely collapse."
Caius didn't mind. "Isn't it something to be proud of, having a wife who cares? Why should I care?"
Caius was even more proud!
Abigail sighed helplessly and got to the point. "I just heard that David sent his daughter Jessica to Aerilon to investigate Mom. Be careful these days."
Hearing this, Caius's face instantly darkened, his brows furrowing, exuding a menacing aura. "If she dares to come after Michelle, she'll regret it."
