Chapter 342 I Really Can't Eat Anymore

Abigail's eyes widened in shock. "How could this happen?"

"It's a long story," Gregory said, staring at the ceiling as his thoughts drifted away. "Cressida, a girl from a remote mountain area, entered Aerilon University with the Worthington family's support. Though she had a promising future, her ambitions soared after seeing their wealth. She took advantage of a drunken Caius and started a relationship with him."

Quinn was conceived from that drunken encounter. Cressida, clever and secretive, hid her pregnancy. By the time Quinn was born, it was too late for the Worthington family to intervene.

Cressida believed Quinn would secure her place in the Worthington family, but she misjudged Caius, who despised manipulation. The family refused to acknowledge Quinn.

Quinn became a pawn, suffering abuse and violence from birth. Cressida, increasingly twisted by Caius's rejection, took out her resentment on him.

Eventually, Caius broke off his engagement with Calliope, vowing never to marry if he couldn't be with the woman he loved.

Darwin, determined that Caius should have a child, brought Quinn back to the Worthington family. Surviving as a bastard in such a large family was nearly impossible, making Quinn's survival a miracle.

Abigail had never imagined Quinn's background was so tragic. As she listened, tears welled up in her eyes.

A trace of helplessness flashed in Gregory's eyes. "Alright, it's all in the past now. Quinn has his own career and us brothers. Everything will get better and better."

Abigail sobbed, her eyes shimmering with tears, looking very pitiful.

"But the hurt he suffered can't be erased."

Thinking about the pain her blood-related brother had endured without her knowing, Abigail felt a sharp pain in her heart.

Seeing her tears, Gregory quickly sat up from the bed, cupping her cheeks and gently wiping them away.

"Alright, don't cry."

Abigail hugged Gregory's neck, burying her face deeply in his shoulder, her shoulders trembling slightly as she suppressed her sobs.

Gregory felt heartbroken but was more helpless, only able to softly comfort Abigail.

After a long time, Abigail finally stopped crying and fell asleep on Gregory's shoulder.

But even in her sleep, she was restless, occasionally crying out, looking extremely pitiful.

Gregory sighed silently in his heart, kissed her forehead, and then gently held her in his arms, softly patting her back.

In the room opposite, Quinn finished packing his luggage and made a call to his subordinate in Aerilon.

"Help me find out where Caius is now. Notify me immediately if there's any news."

The person on the other end was clearly stunned but eventually agreed in a low voice without asking further questions.

After hanging up, Quinn walked to Abigail's door. His raised hand hesitated mid-air, unsure whether to knock. After a long pause, he finally lowered his hand and turned to leave.

But just then, the door was opened from the inside.

Gregory looked surprised when he saw him. "Have you been waiting here long?"

Quinn shook his head, his gaze drifting towards the room. "How is she?"

"She's asleep." Gregory lowered his voice, closed the door, and walked downstairs with Quinn.

Seeing Quinn's hesitant expression, Gregory spoke first, "I told her about your background."

Quinn's hand holding the water cup trembled slightly, almost spilling the water, and he looked at Gregory in surprise.

"What was her reaction?"

Would she despise his background?

He lowered his eyes, giving a bitter smile. Probably, right?

After all, Cressida was just a greedy and vicious woman, and naturally, Quinn inherited her dirty genes.

Having been brothers for so many years, how could Gregory not guess what he was thinking?

Gregory patted his shoulder, comforting him, "Don't worry, Abigail feels very sorry for you. She cried in my arms for a long time before I managed to coax her to sleep."

"Really?"

Quinn suddenly looked up, a brilliant light flashing in his usually deep and calm eyes.

Gregory smiled and nodded. "Of course, when have I ever lied to you?"

Quinn pressed his lips together, unable to suppress a smile as his tense nerves relaxed. A surge of joy filled his heart. Abigail didn't hate him because of his background.

When Abigail woke up, it was already dark. She stretched comfortably in bed, her eyes still drowsy. Feeling warmth beside her, she moved closer. Strong hands wrapped around her waist, pulling her into a warm embrace.

"Awake?"

Abigail opened her eyes and looked up, meeting Gregory's deep gaze.

She smiled and kissed Gregory on the cheek.

"Good evening, hubby."

Her sudden kiss caught Gregory off guard. He was stunned for a moment, then laughed.

"Yes, good evening, my wife."

His low, sexy voice whispered in Abigail's ear, irresistibly charming. She scratched her ear, feeling it heat up.

Gregory adored her shy look—pink cheeks and seductive eyes. His Adam's apple moved slightly, and his eyes darkened. Just as he was about to kiss her, a sudden knock on the door interrupted them.

Quinn's voice came from outside. "Still sleeping? Time to eat."

Hearing Quinn's voice, Abigail was startled. She quickly struggled out of Gregory's arms, tidied her clothes and hair, and hurried to open the door.

Gregory's face was filled with displeasure at being interrupted, his expression dark.

Quinn's gaze swept over them, realizing something, and he couldn't help but cough lightly.

"Sorry, did I interrupt you?"

Abigail's face turned red, and she waved her hands repeatedly. "No, no, you said it's time to eat, so let's go!"

Watching her almost flee, Quinn couldn't help but laugh softly.

Turning his head, he met Gregory's resentful gaze. "Knock less next time."

He didn't even get to kiss her!

Quinn ignored him and followed Abigail.

Gregory, fuming, silently cursed their childish behavior and followed them.

The dining table was laden with a variety of beautifully plated, delicious dishes. Quinn and Gregory, seated on either side of Abigail, competed to fill her plate, quickly piling it high with food.

Looking at the almost overflowing plate, Abigail's eyelid twitched, and she spoke up, "Enough, I really can't eat anymore!"
