Chapter 26 He Is Ordinary
Andy Moore, the butler of the White Manor, came out. When he saw Abigail, he immediately showed a loving smile.
"Ms. Martin, are you here to see Mrs. Grace White? She told me this morning that she missed you," Andy said.
"Andy, it's been a long time. I miss Grace too," Abigail replied.
Andy was the butler of the White Manor and had fought on the battlefield with George in the past.
Later, when the situation in Capitise stabilized, George started his business.
Andy's leg was injured on the battlefield and was not suitable for running around, so he worked as a butler at the White Manor.
Ralph is Andy's son.
Abigail only recently found out about these things, which Gregory told her.
Gregory said that Ralph had known a group of friends with bad characters when he was young and was addicted to gambling. He almost lost his life at the gambling table.
It was Gregory who rushed to the casino with bodyguards and saved Ralph's life.
Ralph and Andy have always been grateful to Gregory. Ralph remained unmarried his whole life and worked as Gregory's butler.
Under Andy's guidance, Abigail walked into the mansion's living room.
As soon as she entered, she saw the last person she wanted to see: Roman's mother, Elaine.
Elaine was originally on the phone. After seeing Abigail, she instantly became angry.
She quickly spoke a few words to the person on the other end of the phone, hung up, and glared at Abigail.
"How dare you come over here? Abigail, why did you send those messages about Roman in those group chats? You better delete them right away. Otherwise, I won't let you go!" Elaine looked at Abigail with disgust and resentment.
In the past few days, rumors about Roman and Jessica have spread quickly. If it was just a rumor, Elaine could easily find an excuse to cover it up. But Abigail actually sent a recording in the WhatsApp group chat.
Now, everyone in the circle knows about this. Several high-profile ladies have been calling Elaine since last night, asking if the person speaking in the audio is really Roman. And because of this, many wealthy ladies have been looking at her with strange eyes.
Even though they haven't said it out loud, they are all mocking Elaine for not properly raising her child.
Elaine was about to find an opportunity to punish Abigail, but she didn't expect Abigail to come over herself.
Looking at Elaine's ferocious expression and angry questioning, Abigail frowned slightly. She retorted, "Why should I listen to you? Roman betrayed me even though he was engaged to me. Why should I preserve his dignity?"
Elaine was instantly filled with disbelief and stared at Abigail in confusion. She thought, "Is this really the Abigail I know?"
In Elaine's impression, Abigail had always been weak. No matter how others targeted her, she always seemed to have no temper, like someone who could be easily manipulated.
Although Abigail had never been close to Elaine before, she had always respected her.
So when Elaine heard Abigail's question, she was momentarily taken aback. It wasn't until she snapped out of it that she realized what Abigail had actually said.
Elaine immediately felt anger and sneered, "You've ruined Roman's reputation, and you're asking me why? You better delete all those things right away. Otherwise, you will never be a member of the White family!"
Facing Elaine's reprimand, Abigail remained calm. She glanced at Elaine lightly and then looked at Andy behind her. "Andy, when did it become her decision to make for the White family?"
Andy also noticed Abigail's change. His surprise was still visible in his eyes when she asked him the question.
He smiled and truthfully replied, "The decisions regarding the White family are made by Mrs. Grace White and Mr. White, of course."
Elaine was exposed in front of everyone, and she appeared somewhat embarrassed, but she couldn't argue back.
In the White family, Grace and Gregory always made the decisions. Elaine clenched her teeth and coldly threatened Abigail, "Abigail, you and Roman are going to be husband and wife in the future. Don't you want to protect his reputation? So, be sensible and delete the recording right away."
She thought to herself, "So what if Roman really had a relationship with Jessica? Powerful men these days all have mistresses. Besides, my son is so exceptional and handsome, and he's the only grandson of the White family. Even if he has a mistress, what's the big deal?"
Elaine felt that Abigail was being too petty and doubted whether she would make a good wife for Roman.
Abigail laughed in anger at her words. "What if I refuse? It was you who arranged this marriage in the first place, and now you want to break it off. What do you take me for?"
She crossed her arms and stared at Elaine coldly.
Seeing her sarcastic gaze, Elaine felt a twinge of guilt, and her eyes instinctively avoided Abigail's.
She argued in a soft voice, "It's all because you couldn't control Roman's heart. Whose fault is that? If you continue like this, it won't be good for either of you. You might as well take this opportunity to break off the engagement."
Elaine had wanted to break off the engagement long ago.
She had arranged for Roman and Abigail to get engaged because the Martin family was growing rapidly.
But Elaine hadn't expected that in just ten years, the Martin family would start to decline.
And as long as Kayla was there, Abigail had no say in the Martin family at all.
Elaine had heard that David doted on Jessica, and with Kayla in the picture, Abigail might not even inherit the Martin family's wealth in the future.
She didn't want her son to marry a helpless orphan.
Elaine thought, "My son is going to inherit the White Group in the future!"
Abigail saw through Elaine's thoughts and chuckled sarcastically. She exposed Elaine directly, saying, "So, you think I'm no longer useful to you and want to get rid of me?"
Elaine was instantly agitated and stared angrily at Abigail. "What are you talking about? How could I be that kind of person?"
Some things could be pondered in the mind and discussed in private, but they couldn't be said directly.
Elaine thought, "The White family is a family of wealth and power. What would happen if this matter were to get out?"
"Isn't that right? Despite the Martin family's recent struggles, you benefited a lot from the engagement through my mother. You can break off the engagement, but we need to settle these matters first."
Perhaps Michelle knew Elaine's character from the start and was worried that she would be mistreated later, so Michelle divided many projects between them.
Elaine's husband, Stephen, who is Gregory's brother, made a lot of money from these projects.
Stephen can still hold a position in the White Group thanks to these projects.
They benefited from it, but now they want to abandon Abigail.
