Chapter 93 No Girlfriend, But a Wife
When the presentation started, the room was so quiet one could hear a pin drop. Only Gregory's voice filled the space. This was a first for the students.
The principal looked at the attentive students and felt pleased. 'If only they were this focused in class,' he thought.
He knew Gregory was captivating, but this was beyond his expectations.
Gregory spoke for about an hour, mixing in personal stories. The students were hooked. As he wrapped up, they still wanted more.
Gregory scanned the room, but his eyes always found Abigail. Seeing her watching him, he felt a secret joy. His expression softened, and his usual stern demeanor faded.
After he finished, the principal took the stage. "We're lucky to have Mr. White here. Feel free to ask him questions, and he'll pick some to answer," he said.
The room buzzed with excitement.
Tricia grabbed Abigail's hand, almost screaming, "Abigail, I get Mr. White's charm now! You're so lucky!"
Abigail bit her lip, wishing Tricia would hush. "Tricia, keep it down, or someone will hear!"
Tricia shrugged, "You're married to him, no need to be scared."
Abigail shook her head, staying silent. She wasn't scared, just unsure about her and Gregory's future. If their relationship went public and they divorced, it would be embarrassing. She needed certainty before being brave.
Tricia saw the hesitation in Abigail's eyes and sighed. She was about to say something when a student asked, "Mr. White, do you have a girlfriend?"
All the girls looked at Gregory, waiting. The room went silent again.
Gregory paused, glanced at Abigail, and smiled. "No," he said.
The room erupted in cheers. Abigail was stunned, her hands clenching into fists. She looked away, feeling hurt. Her lips pressed into a tight line, and her face lost color. Her mind was in chaos, but she kept telling herself this was the answer she wanted. Still, she felt hurt, clutching her chest.
Some bold girls asked, "Mr. White, can we exchange contact info?"
Gregory smiled charmingly. "Sorry, my wife won't allow it. I only said half of my previous sentence. I don't have a girlfriend, but I am married."
The noisy classroom fell into an eerie silence. Then, voices filled with shock and surprise erupted.
The principal quickly shouted, "Quiet, everyone! We invited Mr. White because of Mrs. White. So, don't get any ideas."
Abigail looked up suddenly. Gregory was still looking her way, smiling. Their eyes met, and she felt something shift.
A student asked, "Is your wife also at Aramore University?"
Gregory replied, "Yes, she is."
The student pressed on, "Is she in this classroom? Who is she?"
Gregory nodded, "Yes."
Without her, he wouldn't be here. Since Abigail brought him breakfast that morning, he couldn't stop thinking about her. He decided he couldn't wait any longer. He needed to know if she had any feelings for him, even a little.
When the principal called, asking if he could give a presentation, he agreed immediately.
After Gregory's answer, the room buzzed with curiosity. Everyone wondered who was lucky enough to marry such an amazing guy.
But Gregory wouldn't say more. He smiled and said, "Whether we go public depends on my wife. In our relationship, she holds the reins."
He said this for Abigail. In love, the one who falls first often loses. Since he had fallen for Abigail, she had the upper hand. He was willing to bow to her if she wanted.
He left some things unsaid, fearing he'd scare her, but that didn't mean he didn't care.
Abigail was stunned, replaying his words in her mind: "In our relationship, she holds the reins." She couldn't believe Gregory said that.
Who was Gregory? The leader of the White family, president of the White Group, the richest man in Aramore. Yet, he was willing to make concessions in their marriage.
She didn't know how to feel, but his words broke her inner defenses. She couldn't deceive herself anymore. She liked Gregory, maybe even loved him. She had never felt so strongly for anyone before. It was like a blazing fire or powerful waves, intense and overwhelming.
Her emotions were in turmoil.
When the presentation ended and Gregory and the principal left, Tricia nudged her, snapping her back to reality.
Tricia asked, "Abigail, are you okay? You look pale."
Abigail didn't answer. She stood up abruptly and ran out of the classroom.
