Chapter 156 Stephen Apologized

Gregory wasted no time, sold off the assets, and handed the cash to Stephen.

Stephen was floored when he found out that most of the White family's spending over the years was actually Gregory's money.

Elaine, always wanting to show off, bought the latest designer bags and jewelry every season.

She also funneled cash to her relatives.

Before she married into the White family, Elaine's folks were just regular country people.

But thanks to her years of support, not only her parents but even her extended family were living it up in fancy villas.

With their lack of education and skills, surviving in a big city like Aramore was a pipe dream.

Elaine made sure they had cushy jobs in the White Group's subsidiaries.

She even gave them titles like General Manager and Project Director.

Gregory dug deeper and found out that the building materials used by these subsidiaries were total garbage.

The rest of the money? Embezzled.

Luckily, no major disasters had happened yet, but the potential fallout was terrifying.

Stephen was livid when he heard all this!

He knew Elaine was always giving money to her family, but he had no idea she let them get away with this kind of crap.

The White Group had been around for over a century and had a solid rep in Aramore.

If any of these projects went south, it would trash the reputation the White Group had built over a hundred years.

The losses would be off the charts!

Stephen felt his head spinning, almost like he couldn't breathe.

What really stung was losing face in front of Gregory.

He'd never been the standout kid, and when Gregory came along with his smarts and business acumen, Stephen felt like a nobody.

Now, facing Gregory's stare, he felt utterly humiliated.

He covered his face in shame and apologized, "Gregory, I'm really sorry. It's all my fault for not keeping Elaine in check."

Gregory saw how uncomfortable he was and patted his shoulder, trying to comfort him, "Stephen, no matter what, even if we don't live together, you're still my brother."

Stephen's eyes welled up, feeling both touched and bitter.

He'd been jealous of Gregory before.

Whether it was his skills or Grace's favoritism, it made him green with envy.

But now, he realized how wrong he'd been.

Gregory was his brother, his real brother!

Having such an awesome brother should make him proud, right?

No matter what, they'd always be brothers, and that would never change.

Stephen hugged Gregory tightly, took the asset list, and got ready to leave.

As he was about to go, Gregory stood up and said, "Stephen, I'm kicking Elaine's family out of the company, and I've already asked Leo to call the cops. They'll get to the bottom of this."

"Alright, you go ahead. I'll deal with Elaine." Stephen smiled and walked out of Gregory's office.

He'd been too soft on Elaine, and it led to her going off the rails.

If he didn't put a stop to it, things would only get worse! He wouldn't let that happen!

His back looked defeated, and Gregory just shook his head, feeling helpless.

Elaine didn't want to leave the White Manor.

The White Manor was smack dab in the center of Aramore, probably the priciest spot in the whole city.

"Grace is so damn biased. You know the White Manor's gonna end up with Gregory. It's total BS!" Elaine fumed.

Roman, busy packing, was getting seriously annoyed. "Mom, cut it out. If Grandma hears you, she'll be hurt!"

But Elaine just cranked up the volume. "So what if I say it? If she's got the guts to do it, she should be ready to hear it. She's biased! Why else would she hand the company over to Gregory?"

All the drama with Olivia and the asset split had her fuming.

She didn't have the power to take on Gregory now, but she sure as hell wasn't gonna let this slide!

Seeing Roman's helpless look just made her angrier. "If you don't want me to get screwed over, then man up and take the company back from Gregory!"

Jessica jumped in, "Yeah, Roman, we've been pushed around enough. Can't you see Gregory's true colors?"

Jessica married into the White family to level up her life!

She never thought she'd be packing up and leaving the White Manor just days after moving in. She hadn't even gotten to enjoy it yet!

The White Manor was this swanky European-style villa with a huge yard out back.

It looked low-key, but every piece of decor and art was worth a fortune.

It was a level of luxury she could never dream of in the Martin family.

Roman just pursed his lips and stayed quiet.

He'd tried to take over the company before, but he couldn't even handle the basics and had to leave quietly. It became this huge shadow over him, something he never wanted to talk about.

Jessica saw him clamming up and gritted her teeth. How had she not noticed before how useless Roman was? She said, "Roman, how do you know if you don't try? Are you really gonna let Gregory push you around forever?"

Elaine, even though she didn't like Jessica, had to admit she was right.

Seeing Roman's expression soften, she jumped in, "If you don't fight now, Jessica, me, and your future kids will all be ignored! Do you think Gregory, with his personality, will let us be?"

Roman was shocked, his eyes wide. "Gregory's not like that."

Elaine sneered, "Oh, really? He's already kicking us out of the White Manor. What else won't he do?"

Roman lowered his eyes, a storm brewing inside.

He was usually scared of Gregory, but he also admired him the most.

He didn't want to believe Gregory was that ruthless, but the fact that Gregory proposed splitting the assets was undeniable.

After a long silence, Roman pushed down his mixed feelings and said, "But even if I want to join the company now, Gregory might not agree."

"He'll have no choice. If he doesn't, I'll go to the media and show everyone his true colors!" Elaine clenched her fists, a fierce look in her eyes.

She married Stephen to become the hostess of the White family with considerable wealth and influence.

But she never expected Stephen to have zero interest in fighting for the family assets.

Later, she had Roman, hoping he'd be ambitious.

But it felt like fate was playing a cruel joke on her, blocking her every wish.

She'd waited over twenty years and wasn't about to wait any longer!
