Chapter 226 Who Did It

Everyone was totally floored and started asking what the heck just happened. The whole forum went nuts. Then, out of nowhere, a message popped up in the comments: [Word on the street is, Ms. Martin has seen everything we've posted here. Watch out, folks!]

That one line sent everyone into a frenzy. People were scrambling to their profiles, trying to delete their posts as fast as they could.

Sure, it felt good to vent at the time, but Abigail was the CEO of DM Group, the one signing their paychecks. No matter how gutsy they were, they only dared to gossip behind her back.

But to their horror, they found out they couldn't delete their posts. They couldn't even deactivate their accounts!

Everyone was in a state of shock, with one thought running through their minds: 'We're screwed! If Ms. Martin decides to come after us, we're toast!'

The whole DM building was in chaos, employees huddling together, eyes wide with panic. Meanwhile, Abigail was chilling in her CEO office, sipping coffee and watching the surveillance footage.

Susan stood next to her, nervously watching her boss's reaction. "Ms. Martin, are you okay?" she asked cautiously.

"I'm fine, why do you ask?" Abigail replied with a smile, taking another sip of her coffee.

Susan bit her lip, feeling conflicted. "Ms. Martin, you're tougher than I thought."

Most young women would be freaking out if so many people were trashing them. But not Abigail. She wasn't scared at all.

In fact, she seemed totally calm, like she wasn't the one being talked about, which really surprised Susan. In her mind, Abigail was impressive and organized, but after all, she still just graduated; today's incident made Susan see her boss in a new light.

Abigail smiled, a dark glint in her eyes. "If you'd been through things a thousand times worse than this, you'd be as calm as I am."

Susan was taken aback, looking at Abigail with a mix of emotions. What had she been through to be so unfazed?

Susan didn't dare to think too much about it, lowering her head and feeling a pang of sympathy for Abigail.

"By the way, did you find out where the video came from?" Abigail suddenly asked.

Susan snapped back to reality and shook her head slowly. "Not yet. I talked to a few people who were there that day, and they all denied it."

Abigail sneered and said, "Keep digging until you find out."

There had to be some clues.

Susan nodded. "Okay, I'll get right on it."

Abigail called her back. "Wait, bring Chris in. I need to talk to her."

Susan was momentarily surprised but agreed and left.

Soon, Chris walked in, looking worried. "Ms. Martin, I heard about the forum thing. Please don't be upset."

Abigail was a bit taken aback, not expecting Chris to care, and felt a warm feeling inside. She smiled, showing her dimples, with no trace of sadness. "Thanks for your concern."

Chris stared at Abigail, and when she saw her smile, her cheeks turned red. 'Ms. Martin's smile is so beautiful!'

Chris covered her blushing cheeks, feeling a bit embarrassed. "No need to thank me, as long as you're okay. By the way, what did you need me for?"

Abigail leaned back in her chair and said, "The design competition is coming up soon. I heard that the famous designer Charles from Country F will be one of the judges. Can you dig up some info on him?"

Chris looked a bit shocked and doubtful. "Ms. Martin, are you sure you want to trust me with something this important?"

Usually, Susan handled these kinds of tasks. Chris was just an intern assistant, mostly fetching coffee and doing menial jobs. She never thought she'd get such a big responsibility!

Abigail's eyes twinkled with amusement as she teased, "Don't want to do it? Then forget it."

"No, I want to do it! I'd love to!" Chris waved her hands frantically, promising, "Ms. Martin, don't worry, I'll get it done on time!"

"Great, I'll be waiting for your good news," Abigail said.

Later that day, Susan came back, looking pretty serious. "Ms. Martin, we found out who did it."

"Who?" Abigail asked.

Susan hesitated for a moment but then spilled the beans. "It's the deputy director of the design department."

Abigail racked her brain and finally remembered who that was. Her name was Lucy, and she'd been with DM for almost seven years. She was talented but had a bit of an ego.

Abigail couldn't figure out why Lucy would do this. They didn't have any beef, right?

Seeing the confusion on Abigail's face, Susan explained quietly, "According to the design department folks, she has a thing for Tom and often tries to get close to him."

Abigail instantly got it; Tom was the root of the problem. But Lucy's actions were way over the top. She couldn't get Tom, so she took it out on Abigail. Wasn't Abigail just an innocent bystander in all this?

Seeing Abigail's face darken, Susan asked softly, "Ms. Martin, what should we do about Lucy?"

Abigail didn't hesitate. "Fire her. DM can't tolerate backstabbers."

Susan was a bit surprised by Abigail's decisiveness. But she didn't say anything and turned to leave.

Soon, word of Lucy's firing spread through the company, making everyone anxious. A few people who had gossiped about Abigail on the forum felt their hearts sink. Lucy was fired; were they next?

Even though DM Group's salaries weren't the highest, the benefits were top-notch. Sometimes, Abigail would order afternoon tea or even meals from five-star hotels to show her appreciation for their hard work.

Thinking about this, they exchanged guilty and regretful looks.

But in this world, regret did't fix mistakes. When they messed up, they have to face the consequences. Before the day ended, HR notified them that they didn't need to come to work tomorrow. They panicked and begged the HR manager to put in a good word for them.

The HR manager shook his head and said meaningfully, "Ms. Martin is usually gentle and kind, but that doesn't mean she has no temper. Just letting you go without suing you is already showing mercy."
