Chapter 118 Friends Who Grew Up Together
Gregory got out of the shower and saw Abigail still working on her paper.
"Abigail, it's late. Get some rest and finish tomorrow," he said.
"Okay, just let me finish this paragraph," Abigail replied, typing away.
Gregory sighed, walked over, saved her work, shut down the computer, and pulled her to bed.
"Mr. White!" Abigail protested, annoyed at the turned-off computer.
Gregory pointed to the clock. "Look at the time."
Abigail glanced and was shocked—it was past 1 AM.
Feeling guilty, she quickly got into bed. "Mr. White, I'll sleep now. Good night."
Gregory chuckled at her lively demeanor and got into bed beside her. Soon, despite claiming she wasn't sleepy, Abigail fell asleep instantly.
As her breathing steadied, Gregory counted down, "Three, two, one."
Right on cue, Abigail turned over and snuggled into his arms, finding a comfy spot on his chest before drifting into a deep sleep.
Gregory's eyes softened. He hugged her, kissed her forehead, and soon fell asleep too.
The next morning, Abigail brought her computer to school, intending to work in the library. On the way, she ran into Allison.
It was the first time she'd seen Allison since the school celebration.
Allison approached, glaring at her. The school had disciplined her harshly, and her parents had been forced to beg the principal for leniency. Although the punishment had been reduced, it had not been revoked, and the entire school was aware of it.
As a result, Allison had become a laughingstock and blamed Abigail for her predicament.
Abigail ignored her and walked past.
Allison, furious, shouted, "Abigail, stop right there!"
Abigail turned slowly. "What do you want?"
Her tone was cold, showing no interest in dealing with Allison.
Allison saw this as mockery and snapped, "Abigail, don't think you're off the hook. I'll get my revenge. Just wait!"
Abigail frowned and said, "Come find me when you can actually get revenge. Anything else? If not, I'm leaving."
She turned and walked away without looking back.
To Abigail, Allison had already paid for her scheming, which seemed fair. If Allison wanted to blame her for the punishment, there wasn't much Abigail could do. Arguing with someone who couldn't see reason was pointless.
Allison cursed angrily as she watched Abigail leave.
...
In the library, Abigail found a random seat and started her research.
After a busy morning, she finally organized her notes and got up to leave.
Just then, her phone rang with a message from Olivia, which included a photo.
The picture showed Gregory and Olivia in a private room at a restaurant. Olivia was sharing food with Gregory, appearing affectionate, while those around them wore knowing looks. Gregory's face was only partially visible, making it difficult to discern his expression.
The photo conveyed an ambiguous atmosphere.
If Abigail didn't trust Gregory, she might have misunderstood. But she felt a bit annoyed and quickly replied: [Is this the best you can do? A misleading photo to make me jealous?]
On the other end...
Olivia saw the message and angrily threw her phone, shattering the screen. Her colleagues in the office turned to look, curious and scrutinizing.
Feeling uncomfortable, Olivia forced a smile and said, "Sorry, I dropped my phone."
Ignoring whether they believed her, she picked up her phone and returned to her desk. Just as she was about to reply to Abigail, Rex opened the office door and called, "Olivia, come in. I need to ask you something."
Startled, Olivia put away her phone and entered Rex's office.
"Rex, what do you need?" she asked.
Rex, looking serious, pointed to a chair for her to sit. "Olivia, yesterday you said you were close with Mr. White from the White Group. Was that true?"
Olivia quickly assured him, "Of course! Rex, my aunt is his sister-in-law. We grew up together."
Rex nodded. "If you're so close, why did he show you no respect yesterday?"
Olivia's expression turned awkward, her eyes flickering. "There was a misunderstanding. He's been angry with me and even married another woman out of spite. I didn't want to mention it..."
Tears welled up in her eyes, making her look pitiful.
