Chapter 23 Ambiguity

Ralph looked at Gregory's serious face and didn't know what to do for a moment. He lowered his voice and asked, "Mr. White, what do you mean?"

"Reorganize a more detailed set of documents and send them to my email. I want them before tomorrow afternoon."

"Yes, I'll do it right away."

Ralph nodded and left the living room. This time, Gregory seemed really angry. But Roman had brought it upon himself. He had begged for this marriage, and now he regretted it and made such a foolish move, bringing shame to the White family.

After Ralph left, only Abigail and Gregory remained in the living room. Abigail stood up and walked to Gregory, looking up at him. "Mr. White, will you really help me?"

Seeing her clear and pure eyes, all the fierceness in Gregory's eyes dissipated, and his expression softened. He lowered his head and looked at the girl, who only reached his shoulder, with a surprised look. He smiled and said, "What? Don't you trust your husband?"

Abigail's cheeks instantly turned red, and her heart began to beat inexplicably faster. She couldn't help but wonder if the person in front of her was really the Gregory she knew. Whenever Abigail went to the White Manor before, although she often saw Gregory, he always appeared cold and distant. His overpowering aura made her too afraid to get close. So, in the past decade or so, their conversations have been limited to simple greetings and nothing more.
But Gregory quickly regained his composure and took a step back, a faint smile on his face as he tried to lighten the atmosphere.

"Abigail, I understand your concerns," Gregory said, his voice gentle yet reassuring. "But trust me, Roman's actions have consequences, and I won't let him off the hook just because he's my nephew. You're my wife, and that makes you the most important person in my life."

Gregory's words stirred something deep within Abigail. It was a mix of surprise, hope, and a lingering flicker of doubt. She had spent so long feeling neglected and unimportant, always hoping for someone to put her first. It was hard to believe that someone finally did.

She looked into Gregory's eyes, searching for any sign of deception or insincerity. But all she saw was warmth and determination. He meant every word he said.

With a soft sigh, Abigail nodded, unable to find her voice. It was a leap of faith, a decision to trust Gregory to do what was right. She had to believe that he truly valued their marriage.

Gregory reached out and gently caressed Abigail's cheek, his touch sending shivers down her spine. "I will always be by your side, Abigail," he whispered, his voice filled with a mixture of tenderness and determination. "I won't let anything come between us. You are my everything."

Abigail's heart swelled with a mix of emotions. It was scary to trust someone again, to put her faith in someone after being let down so many times before. But as she looked into Gregory's eyes, she couldn't help but feel that he was different.

As they stood there, locked in each other's gaze, Abigail knew she had made the right choice. Gregory was the one person who would never let her down, and a sense of peace washed over her.

Sometimes, one person can change everything. In Abigail's case, that person was Gregory.
She wondered, "What does he mean by this? Is he telling me that he would choose me over Roman? But why? We have never interacted before. Even our marriage was just a formality."

Seemingly understanding Abigail's thoughts, Gregory continued, "As your husband, I must protect my wife from anyone's harm."

He spoke with determination, emphasizing the words "anyone."

Gregory couldn't immediately express his feelings, fearing that it would scare her away. But that didn't stop him from using his role as a husband to tell Abigail that she was never alone.

At least from now on, Gregory would protect her.

No one could touch her.

This was the first time Abigail was chosen with such certainty, and it was also the first time she realized that she might not be so lonely.

At least in this world, there was someone who said they were willing to protect her.

Abigail's eyes suddenly welled up, tears uncontrollably streaming down.

She instinctively reached out to wipe them away, not wanting to embarrass herself in front of Gregory. But no matter how much she wiped, the tears kept flowing.

"Mr. White, why are you so good to me?"

Abigail was deeply moved. Originally, she felt that getting married was too impulsive and felt uneasy. But now, Abigail realized that she had gained many benefits.

Even if they didn't have love between them, Gregory was the most responsible and reliable man she had ever met.

Seeing her cry like a little kitten, Gregory found it both amusing and heartwrenching.

Unable to resist, he reached out and gently wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes. His tone softened as well. "I said, you're my wife. Roman is bullying you, challenging my authority. Once Ralph gathers the information, I'll take you back to the White Manor and settle things with him, alright?"

Abigail sobbed. Hearing this, she couldn't help but look up at Gregory.

"Really?"

Because of her crying, her clear eyes were shining with sparkling tears, making them appear exceptionally radiant under the light.

Being looked at with such trusting eyes by Abigail, Gregory felt an unprecedented warmth.

He nodded solemnly, saying, "Yes, really. In my heart, besides my mom and my wife, everyone else is just an outsider to me."

"Thank you, Mr. White. You are such a kind person!" Abigail wiped away her tears and turned her tears into smiles.

Her expression became sweet with her smile.

Facing Abigail's gratitude, Gregory remained calm and reached out to ruffle her hair before saying, "Alright, it's getting late. Get some rest."

"Okay! Mr. White, goodnight." Abigail nodded and, before heading upstairs, took the documents from the table.
Once she reached the upstairs, Gregory's smile faded, replaced by a bloodthirsty intent. It seemed like Gregory had been too lenient with Roman before, allowing him to do whatever he pleased. He took out his phone and called Leo. "Cancel all of Roman's cards and provide me with a detailed list of his expenses."

Leo was taken aback, finding it hard to believe that Gregory could be so harsh towards his nephew. But he quickly composed himself and replied, "Alright, Mr. White. I'll get right on it."

Gregory's eyes turned cold, and he sneered, "It's about time I teach Roman a lesson. Otherwise, he won't have a clue where all his possessions came from."

Leo remained silent, not expressing his agreement or disagreement.

In fact, the White family had split up ten years ago, by Stephen and others' initiative. At that time, the White Group was in crisis, and Elaine was afraid of being affected, so she made a scene demanding that the family be split up.

Grace eventually gave in, agreeing that a split could happen, but only if the White family resolved the crisis and Stephen and the others wouldn't receive any money from it.

Elaine probably assumed that the White Group had no hope and would be burdened with billions of dollars in debt, so she agreed without hesitation.

However, under Gregory's management, the White Group gradually improved, causing Elaine to regret her decision.

In order for Roman to become the next successor of the White Group, Elaine went to the extent of spreading rumors, claiming that Gregory had issues in certain aspects.

As for the additional card in Roman's possession, Gregory had given it to him solely out of consideration for Abigail.

He couldn't bear to see Gregory suffer alongside Roman, so he treated the additional card as a birthday gift for Roman. He hoped that by using Roman, Abigail could escape the life of being ostracized in the Martin family.

But Roman didn't know how to cherish it. He didn't understand Abigail's kindness.

Gregory was willing to do anything to protect Abigail at any cost.

Poor Roman, why did he have to offend Abigail of all people?
