Chapter 77 Jessica's Show-off
Jessica's smile faltered for a second but quickly returned to normal. "Abigail, you finally made it to the hospital? Dad's getting discharged today. He's been asking about you for days."
Roman clenched his teeth when he saw Abigail and Gregory, wishing he could just leave.
The White Manor incident had left him deeply scarred, and he kept dreaming of Gregory warning him not to hurt Abigail.
He was at the hospital to tell Jessica the truth.
Last time, he tried to tell her that Abigail had married Gregory, but she didn't let him speak.
After much hesitation, he decided to tell her face-to-face to prepare her.
Who knew he'd run into Abigail and Gregory again?
He greeted Gregory and signaled Jessica with his eyes to stop talking.
Gregory already looked grim, and he could be scary when angry.
But Jessica missed Roman's hint and continued, "Abigail, thanks for letting me have my way. Now I can finally be with Roman, and soon, I'll be his wife."
Seeing Jessica so happy, Abigail raised an eyebrow at Roman. "Really?"
It seemed Roman hadn't told Jessica that Grace hadn't approved her marrying into the White family.
Jessica thought Abigail was jealous and smiled even more.
She clung to Roman's arm and said, "Yes, Abigail, if you ever need help, you can always come to Roman and me. We'll definitely help you."
Though she offered help, her chin was slightly raised, and her eyes were full of provocation and disdain.
Abigail responded indifferently, "Let's talk when you actually marry into the White family."
"What do you mean?" Jessica was stunned, her face darkening.
Abigail smirked and pointed to Roman. "Ask him."
Jessica quickly turned to Roman, confused. "Roman, what does she mean? Didn't you say the engagement was canceled?"
Roman took a deep breath, looking troubled. "Jessica, I did cancel the engagement with Abigail, but Grandma hasn't agreed to us being together."
Jessica felt like her heart sank.
She widened her eyes, tears welling up. "No way, you're lying, right? Roman, tell me this isn't true!"
Roman quickly explained, "Jessica, I came to tell you this. Last time on the phone, you didn't let me speak."
Jessica's face stiffened for a moment, but she quickly adjusted her expression.
She pretended not to care. "It's okay, Roman. I know Grandma has some misunderstandings about me because of my sister. How about I bring some gifts to the White family to see Grandma tomorrow?"
She thought, 'Grace didn't like her because Abigail had spoken ill of her.'
If it weren't for Abigail, she would probably already be married to Roman by now!
How despicable!
Roman stayed silent for a long time.
It wasn't just about Grace's disapproval.
Now that Abigail was married to Gregory, if Roman married Jessica, the whole White family would be the talk of high society.
Their reputation would be trashed.
He really liked Jessica, but was he willing to risk the entire White family?
And the one behind all this was Abigail.
She was his natural enemy, always in his way.
Otherwise, why did he keep ending up in these messes?
Jessica was stunned. "Roman, what do you mean?"
Roman wanted to spill the truth, but seeing Abigail's smug look, he couldn't do it and swallowed his words.
Jessica felt hurt by his silence.
In the White family, besides Gregory, only Grace's decisions mattered.
If Grace never agreed to her marrying Roman, what would she do?
Seeing her sadness, Roman promised, "Jessica, I'm doing my best. I believe Grandma will be moved by our love."
Jessica bit her lip, staying silent.
Just thinking about how she had boasted in front of Abigail made her feel ashamed.
Jessica believed Abigail must be laughing at her.
She had never felt so humiliated.
And it was all because of Abigail!
She gritted her teeth, eyes filled with anger, but with Gregory and Roman there, she didn't dare lash out.
She blinked, and hot tears rolled down her cheeks. "Roman, it's okay. No matter what happens, I'm willing to face it with you."
Seeing her trying to be strong, Roman felt even more heartbroken.
He pulled Jessica into his arms and glared at Abigail. "Are you satisfied now?"
Abigail found it baffling. "I'm not the one stopping you two. It has nothing to do with me."
Roman sneered, eyes full of resentment. "If you hadn't seduced Gregory and made him marry you, Grandma wouldn't be stopping me and Jessica."
This shocked Jessica.
Even David and Kayla, who had just finished the discharge procedures, were stunned.
The atmosphere froze for a full half minute.
Jessica was the first to react, her expression changing rapidly from shock to disbelief.
David and Kayla quickly walked up and asked Roman, "Mr. Roman, what did you just say? Abigail and who?"
Realizing he had been too impulsive, Roman couldn't hide the truth anymore. "Mr. Martin, didn't you know? Abigail is already married to Gregory."
David turned his stunned gaze to Abigail and Gregory, feeling extremely shocked.
He couldn't think straight, unable to believe what he had heard.
'Abigail and Gregory married? Impossible.'
Why had Abigail never mentioned any connection with Gregory before?
Had he neglected Abigail for too long, or had she hidden this to get back at Jessica?
As this thought emerged, anger surged in David's chest.
He sternly ordered Abigail, "Abigail, what is going on? Explain yourself immediately."
