Chapter 112 Appreciation

Henry acted like he didn't hear, his smile widening. "Don't be mad, nephew. Gregory and I are tight, so it's cool for me to call you that."

Roman shook off his hand and frowned. "What are you up to?"

Henry's smile faded, his eyes turning cold. "Roman, there's a time and place for causing trouble."

Roman wanted to snap back, but Gregory, having heard the commotion, walked over. "What's going on here?"

Upon hearing Gregory's slightly angry voice, Roman's shoulders tensed. "Gregory."

But Gregory walked right past him to Abigail.

Gregory, usually sharp-eyed, softened in front of Abigail. His deep, cold eyes showed a hint of tenderness. "Abigail, are you upset?"

Abigail smiled and shook her head, taking Gregory's arm. "No, I'm not the type to get upset."

Gregory smiled. That was true. Otherwise, Abigail wouldn't have so decisively released the recording when she found out about Roman and Jessica at the hotel.

This was what Gregory admired most about Abigail. Although she was somewhat sensitive, she never let anyone bully her or cross her boundaries.

He took Abigail's slender, soft hand and held it tightly, then looked at Roman. "Tell me, what happened?"

Facing Gregory's cold stare, Roman bit his lip and couldn't speak.

Jessica wanted to blame Abigail, but Roman stopped her.

Roman met Gregory's gaze and forced a smile. "Nothing happened, Gregory. I'm not feeling well, so I'll leave first."

With that, he left, ignoring the mocking looks from the crowd.

In the end, it was his fault.

Jessica had provoked Abigail and even insinuated in front of everyone that Abigail could marry Gregory because she had slept with him.

Even if it wasn't true, making a big deal out of it would do no good for the White family.

If Elaine found out, her impression of Jessica would only get worse.

For the sake of his and Jessica's future, he had to endure it silently.

Jessica was fuming. Once they were out of the hotel, she angrily shook off Roman's hand and demanded, "Roman, why didn't you speak up? It was Abigail who slandered me."

Roman, already annoyed, replied impatiently, "Are you sure?"

Jessica was instantly speechless, her face turning red.

If she had said this to someone unaware of the situation, they might have believed her. However, Roman had been present throughout.

At that moment, they heard some people whispering nearby.

"Did you see that? Roman really stood up for Jessica. I wonder what charm she has," one remarked.

Someone replied, "Yeah, I used to think Jessica was pretty, but after seeing Abigail today, there's no comparison."

Another said, "I don't know what Roman sees in her—a woman born out of wedlock, whose mother was a mistress. What a peculiar taste."

Someone else added, "You can't say that. Maybe she's a pro at pleasing her partner, something we can't learn!"

They were so engrossed in their gossip that they failed to notice Roman and Jessica standing nearby and overhearing every word.Jessica was about to explode with anger and wanted to rush over and hit them.

But before she could move, Roman stopped her.

Roman whispered, "If you rush out now, you'll offend several prominent families. If my mom finds out..."

Jessica couldn't believe it. "So, in your heart, reputation is more important than me? You're Roman White; they should be flattering you!"

Roman couldn't respond because he knew that without Gregory, he was nothing.

He could only make an excuse. "My mom already doesn't like you. If you ruin her birthday party, she'll be even more against us being together. Just do it for me, okay?"

Under Roman's persuasion, Jessica had to endure it.

In the hotel lobby...

Seeing Roman and Jessica leave, Henry waved to the onlookers. "Everyone, disperse. Enjoy the food and drinks!"

Once they left, Henry couldn't hold back and complained to Gregory, "I knew your nephew was foolish, but I didn't expect him to be this foolish!"

Abigail was amused by his tone, but he was right.

If it weren't for Gregory's protection, Roman's lack of intelligence would have led him to be easily deceived.

"Let's not talk about this. You guys chat; we'll leave first." Henry smiled and tactfully pulled the silent Quinn away.

Quinn, caught off guard, had a vein throbbing on his forehead. "Henry, let go of me!"

Henry quickly let go and laughed. "I didn't mean to. Come on, let's get a drink!"

Watching Henry and Quinn interact, Abigail chuckled.

They were two people with very different personalities who constantly bickered but still maintained a strong relationship.
