Chapter 82 Unrealistic Fantasies

Gregory's words echoed in Abigail's mind. He had caught her off guard, and the unease she'd been pushing down came back stronger than ever.

She felt like she could barely breathe.

Gulping nervously, she kept her back to him and said, "Mr. White, I'm sorry, I don't think I'm ready."

This was supposed to be just a deal.

Gregory's kindness and tenderness were new to her, making her heart race.

But she knew she shouldn't feel this way.

What would Gregory think if he knew she had feelings for him?

Abigail didn't want to think about it. She closed her eyes and tried to push down the discomfort.

Her feelings for Gregory weren't too deep yet, so she needed to end this fantasy.

Since he liked someone else and this relationship had no future. It was better to stop now.

She didn't want to end up hurt like Michelle.

Gregory was taken aback by her rejection.

A wave of disappointment hit him, but he smiled and said, "It's okay, I was rushing things. We can take it slow."

Hearing his casual tone, Abigail pressed her lips together, wanting to say something but staying silent.

The room fell into an awkward silence.

Gregory kept holding her, his breath warm on her neck.

It felt intimate, but Abigail couldn't think any romantic thoughts.

Both lost in their thoughts, they didn't speak. Eventually, they fell asleep.

The next morning, Abigail woke up to find his spot empty.

Remembering Olivia's words from last night, disappointment washed over her.

Gregory was out of her league.

She needed to cut off her feelings for him before they grew deeper.

After pulling herself together, Abigail got ready and went downstairs.

Ralph was directing the servants. Hearing her, he smiled and approached.

He said, "Mrs. White, you're up. Breakfast is ready. Want to eat now or wait?"

Abigail smiled back, "I'll eat now, thanks, Ralph."

Ralph waved it off with a smile. "No trouble. Mr. White made sure of it before he left for work."

"Mr. White..." Abigail felt conflicted, "Thanks, Ralph. You can go back to work."

The breakfast was all her favorites, clearly Gregory's doing.

He was so thoughtful, remembering her likes and taking care of her.

Abigail shook her head, trying to clear her mind.

A sudden phone ring interrupted her thoughts.

It was an unknown number.

She frowned and answered.

A familiar voice, unusually calm, came through. "Abigail, it's Dad."

Abigail felt a wave of disgust, goosebumps rising. Her frown deepened.

"What do you want?" she asked bluntly.

David's tone was fake-gentle, and Abigail knew he had an agenda.

Sure enough, he asked, "Is it true you and Mr. White are married?"

Abigail shot back, "Why does it matter to you?"

David was momentarily speechless. After a pause, he said, "Of course it matters. You're my daughter. Why didn't you tell me about such an important thing?"

Abigail sneered, "Even if I did, could you do anything about it?"

David knew he couldn't. No one in Aramore would dare challenge Gregory. But he tried to keep his dignity, saying, "Abigail, you shouldn't talk to me like that. I want you to be happy."

Abigail didn't buy it. "Just get to the point. What do you want?"

David swallowed his prepared speech. "Abigail, 'DM' is struggling. Can you ask Mr. White to invest some money?"

He'd thought it over all night. Gregory controlled the White family, and if Abigail talked to him, it might help.

Abigail saw right through him. "I don't handle business matters. I can't decide on investments."

David's face darkened. "This company was your mother's. Can you stand to watch it go bankrupt?"

Mentioning her mom, Abigail's anger flared. She put down her utensils and said in an icy tone. "David, you're the last person who should mention my mom. DM Group is in this mess because of you."

David hated being compared to Michelle and got angry. "I'm your father. You should be grateful I raised you."

Before Abigail could respond, Gregory took the phone from her.

His voice was cold as he said, "Are you sure you raised Abigail?"

David was caught off guard, feeling guilty. Would Gregory hold this against him?

Trying to hide his fear, David said, "I raised her. She should repay me."

David thought, 'If Gregory gave some projects to DM Group, it could revive it. Abigail doesn't care about her family.'

Gregory's lips curled into a cold smile. His next words made David's scalp tingle. "Are you sure you raised her even for a day?"
