Chapter 142 Settling Accounts

Gregory soaked in the bathtub for a full four hours. By the time the effects of the drug had completely worn off, it was already past 2 a.m.

He reached out to wipe his wet hair and stood up from the bathtub.

Quinn had prepared clean towels and a bathrobe for him. After getting dressed, he opened the door to leave.

As soon as the door opened, Gregory noticed a small figure crouching at the doorway. It was Abigail.

She was sitting on the floor, curled up into a ball and hugging her knees, looking pitiful. She was so sleepy that she couldn't keep her eyes open, her head bobbing as if she would fall over any second.

Gregory's heart softened, and he slowly squatted down.

Perhaps Gregory's gaze was too intense, as Abigail slowly opened her almond-shaped eyes, which were misty, dazed, and still half-asleep.

Gregory asked, "Why are you sitting here? Why not go back to your room to sleep?"

Abigail rubbed her eyes and looked up at him. "Mr. White, you're finally out? Are you feeling okay? Is there anywhere that still feels uncomfortable?"

Silly girl, she was so sleepy yet still worried about him.

Gregory extended his long arms and picked her up horizontally.

He sternly instructed, "Don't sit on the floor anymore. What if you get sick?"

Afraid that his tone was too harsh, he quickly softened his voice. "I'm fine now. If you're sleepy, get some rest. We'll stay at Quinn's tonight and head back in the morning."

Smelling Gregory's unique, refreshing scent, Abigail felt a sense of peace.

Abigail nodded obediently, settled comfortably in Gregory's arms, and drifted into a deep sleep, overwhelmed by exhaustion. Knowing that Gregory was safe and sound allowed her to finally relax.

...

When Abigail woke up again, she was already back at Maple Residence.

Looking at the familiar room, Abigail was momentarily stunned.

She turned her head and saw Gregory lying beside her. If it weren't for the vivid memories of last night, she might have thought it was all a dream.

As soon as Abigail moved slightly, Gregory opened his eyes too.

His deep blue eyes sparkled with warmth, and the corners of his lips curved up. "Good morning, Abigail."

"Good morning, Mr. White. Are you feeling okay?" Abigail was still worried. Gregory had scared her so much last night that she still felt a lingering fear.

Seeing Abigail's concerned face, Gregory felt a warmth in his heart. "Don't worry, I'm fine."

Abigail's face tensed up slightly as she used the back of her hand to check Gregory's forehead. Only after confirming that his temperature was normal did she finally breathe a sigh of relief.

Gregory pulled down Abigail's delicate, fair little hand and held it in his palm, gently massaging it. He reassured her, "I'm really fine. Quinn is a very renowned doctor in the country."

Although Quinn was a psychologist, he could even perform surgeries.

"Of course, I trust Quinn's medical skills. I'm just glad you're okay. You really scared me last night!" Abigail patted her chest, still looking shaken.

After learning from Henry about Gregory's past severe psychological issues, she had been distressed.

Thinking of this, Abigail threw herself into Gregory's arms, savoring his warmth and familiar scent. She bit her lip and asked, "Mr. White, can you promise me that you will always stay healthy?"

Unknowingly, Gregory had already taken a very important place in her heart.

She hoped Gregory would always be healthy, safe, and happy.

Gregory didn't expect Abigail to say this and was momentarily stunned. Then his brows relaxed, and he smiled joyfully. "Do you care about me that much?"

"Yes," Abigail replied. She cared about Gregory very much.

Abigail's cheeks flushed slightly, but she mustered the courage to speak her mind.

Seeing Abigail's serious and determined expression, Gregory felt as if something had suddenly struck his heart.

It was a feeling of both pain and softness.

He leaned close to Abigail's ear and whispered, "Okay, I promise you."

...

After breakfast, Gregory took Abigail back to the White Manor to address the issue of Olivia bribing the charity gala staff to drug him.

Upon their arrival, Elaine was the most fearful.

Late last night...

Olivia called Elaine in a panic, saying, "Aunt Elaine, please help me. I think I've messed up."

After hearing what happened, Elaine was wide awake, breaking out in a cold sweat. "What? You actually drugged Gregory? Are you out of your mind?"

Elaine could hardly believe that the usually obedient and well-behaved Olivia could do such a thing.

All these years, she had been grooming Olivia according to high society standards, hoping she would leave a good impression in the upper circles and marry into a wealthy family.

Olivia had always performed well, appearing very docile on the surface.

But who knew she could be so reckless!

"Aunt Elaine, I did all this for you." On the other end of the phone, Olivia clutched her phone tightly, her tone dark. "Roman can't support the White family. In the end, we still have to rely on Gregory. Only if I marry Gregory will your position in the family be more secure, right?"

This statement hit Elaine's most hidden sore spot.

The accomplishment she took the most pride in was giving birth to a White heir. However, the White family had no shortage of men, especially with Gregory being so outstanding and exceptional.

But what about her most prideful son? He had no business acumen at all.

She gritted her teeth and said, "If Gregory really wants to pursue this, even I can't protect you."

Hearing this, Olivia knew there was hope. She immediately softened her tone and said coquettishly, "I knew you were the best to me. If my parents were still here, they would be very pleased."

Elaine immediately felt the weight of responsibility on her shoulders and hesitated, saying, "I'll try."

After hanging up, Elaine fell into deep thought. 'Given Gregory's methods, he won't easily let Olivia off. What should I do?'

...

Elaine made a call and instructed, "Find someone for me. No matter how much it costs, keep his mouth shut."

Just as she finished speaking, there was a knock on the door. A servant stood outside and said, "Elaine, Mr. White and Mrs. Abigail White are here."

Elaine's heart skipped a beat, her voice trembling slightly. "I know, I'll be right down."

Downstairs...

After greeting Grace, Gregory pulled Abigail to sit on the couch in the living room.

Grace asked suspiciously, "Gregory, why are you here so early? Did something happen?"

She couldn't help but worry because Gregory's face looked terrible. His deep eyes were filled with a bloodthirsty coldness, making people shiver.

Gregory sneered, "Let's wait for Elaine to come down before I explain."

Seeing this, Grace didn't ask further.

Gregory was her son, and she knew him better than anyone. If something didn't affect his bottom line, he wouldn't make such a big deal out of it.

She just wanted to enjoy her retirement peacefully and didn't want to get involved in other matters.

Soon, Elaine came downstairs, her face full of smiles. "Gregory? Why are you here so early? Are you here to see me?"

Gregory glanced at her coldly and said, "I'm here to settle scores."
