Chapter 314 Almost Choked Her to Death
'No, no way! I don't want a divorce! I also don't want to go to jail!'
Elaine reined in her arrogance and pleaded softly, "Gregory, don't do this to me, please. I've worked hard for the White family all these years, isn't that true?"
"Show me the video," Gregory said.
Elaine's eyes flickered, but she said nothing.
Gregory glanced at his watch; it was almost time for his meeting.
He reminded her, "I don't have time to waste with you. Make your choice."
Elaine shook her head, tears streaming down her cheeks. "There is no video, I swear, there is no video. Please, let me go. I don't want a divorce."
Seeing that she was still stubborn, Gregory directly dialed the internal line and instructed Leo, "Leo, call the police."
Before Leo could respond, Elaine quickly grabbed the phone from his hand and hung up. "No, what I said is true, it's all true. I really don't have a video, just a few blurry photos I secretly took when they entered the room. Please, let me go."
Gregory lowered his eyes and stared at Elaine's tear-streaked face for a while. Seeing that she didn't seem to be lying, he asked, "Where are the photos?"
"I'll get them for you right away!" Elaine quickly wiped away her tears and took Gregory to the White Manor.
Andy was having tea and chatting with Grace. When he saw the familiar car pull in, he quickly got up to greet them. "Mr. White, what brings you here?"
But when the car window rolled down, Andy was stunned. "Mrs. Elaine White? Why are you in Mr. White's car?"
Elaine opened the car door and got out. The moment her feet touched the ground, her legs went weak, and she almost fell.
Fortunately, she managed to hold onto the car door to keep from falling.
Facing Andy's inquiry, Elaine forced a smile and replied, "I'm just here to get something."
Andy looked at Elaine, then at Gregory, sensing something odd between them.
But he wisely chose not to ask further.
After greeting Andy, Gregory coldly looked at Elaine. "Where is it?"
"Follow me." Elaine quickly led Gregory upstairs to a storage room, where she retrieved a locked metal box from the farthest corner of a cabinet. "Everything you want is in here."
Elaine never imagined that something she had hidden for twenty years would one day be her downfall.
She stared intently at Gregory, hoping he would let her go for the sake of the photos.
But just then, Grace's puzzled voice came from behind, "What's in there?"
Elaine's heart skipped a beat, and a trace of panic flashed in her eyes.
"Nothing, Mom, why are you here?" Elaine asked in a panic.
Grace didn't answer, her eyes scanning the room before finally landing on the box in Gregory's hand. "What is that?"
Elaine was so nervous she almost stopped breathing and looked at Gregory pleadingly.
'Don't say it, please don't say it!'
But Gregory didn't even glance at her and revealed all the foolish things she had done.
After hearing everything, Grace was so furious that her chest heaved violently, almost fainting on the spot.
She pointed a trembling finger at Elaine, her eyes full of sadness and disappointment. "Elaine, how dare you do such a thing? You shameless person!"
Gregory and Andy supported Grace as they went downstairs.
Andy poured Grace a glass of warm water, and Gregory helped her calm down.
After a long while, Grace finally regained her composure. She looked at Gregory and asked, "Does Abigail know about this?"
Gregory shook his head, his voice cold. "I don't want her to know about this for now."
This matter was too hard to bear, and he feared Abigail wouldn't be able to handle it.
Grace glared at Elaine in anger and questioned coldly, "Michelle had no grudge against you. Why did you do this?"
Elaine opened her mouth, wanting to defend herself, but when she thought of the information Gregory had shown her, she didn't know what to say.
She slowly lowered her head, a trace of desolation and pain in her eyes.
She didn't want this either. She was also a woman and knew how important a woman's reputation was.
But it was all Michelle's fault.
Stephen didn't love her at all. She was just trying to protect her marriage. Was that really wrong?
Seeing her unrepentant look, Grace, with tears in her eyes, said to Andy in a deep voice, "Call Stephen. We'll meet at City Hall in half an hour."
Today, even if it cost her life, she would force Elaine to City Hall.
Andy knew Grace was truly angry and quickly went to make the call.
Hearing this, Elaine looked up sharply, her eyes full of disbelief. "No, I don't want a divorce!"
She begged, "Mom, please, I know I was wrong. Don't make me get a divorce. Everything I did was to protect my marriage with Stephen. Please."
Grace coldly shook off her hand and said indifferently, "Do you think that just because Michelle was an orphan with no one to protect her, and now that she's gone, the pain she suffered in her life can be ignored?"
Elaine's eyes flickered.
That was exactly what she thought. 'Isn't it the truth? I am Stephen's wife. What was Michelle? How could she compare to me?'
But she dared not say these words out loud.
"Mom, no, listen to me. I admit I acted impulsively, leading to Michelle's tragic end. I can apologize to Abigail. I'll even kneel at Michelle's grave and admit my wrongs, but please, no divorce!" Elaine said.
She had schemed for so many years, and Roman had not yet successfully taken over the White Group. How could she agree to a divorce?
Gregory sneered, "Michelle wasn't an outsider; she was my wife's mother. The one who doesn't belong is you!"
After a pause, he ordered, "Bring more people and escort her to City Hall."
Andy complied and quickly called in several bodyguards.
No matter how much Elaine struggled, it was to no avail.
Half an hour later, the group arrived at City Hall on time.
Stephen had already heard about what happened at home. As soon as he got out of the car, he walked up to Elaine.
Elaine thought he was there to save her, her eyes lighting up. "Stephen, you love me, right? I don't want a divorce. Think about Roman. I gave you a son!"
"Love you? Elaine, you've been lying to me all these years!" Stephen's face remained stern as he reached out and grabbed Elaine by the throat. His face was full of malice, with no trace of pity.
In no time, Elaine began to struggle for breath.
Worried about a potential tragedy, Grace urged him to ease up, and he finally let go.
As the pressure on her neck eased, Elaine collapsed to the ground. She clutched her neck, gasping for air, her eyes filled with a sense of relief.
Stephen coldly watched her, then dragged her up from the ground and into City Hall. "Whether you like it or not, today marks the end of this marriage."
Elaine could hardly believe that the Stephen in front of her was the same man she had lived with for over twenty years.
Stephen was like a demon, a madman, a psychopath!
It was terrifying!
She had almost died!
She had no doubt that in that moment, Stephen had truly wanted to strangle her!
