Chapter 171 I Love You

When Kayla and Jessica got the news, they were at home, cursing Abigail. Their plan had seemed perfect, and they just couldn't wrap their heads around how it got exposed.

What really crushed them was Jessica getting kicked out of Aramore University. Sure, Jessica was never a stellar student, but David had poured a ton of money into the school to keep Kayla and Jessica happy.

Even though Jessica had snagged herself a rich husband and wouldn't need to work, she'd never get the nod from high society. How could they not be pissed about that?

Jessica was pacing the living room, clutching her dress like she wanted to rip it apart. "That bitch Abigail, how dare she talk back to me!"

Kayla was nursing a headache. "Damn it, if I had known this brat was so tough, I would've..."

She stopped mid-sentence, not finishing her thought.

Jessica was too mad to catch what she said.

She broke down, squatting in front of Kayla, pleading, "Mom, please think of something. Everyone online is dragging me, I can't take it anymore!"

Other than being an illegitimate child, Jessica had never faced any real hardships growing up.

Kayla and David had always spoiled her, never letting her suffer even a bit. So, Jessica had always been super proud.

Getting expelled felt like the end of the world for Jessica, and she didn't even dare to go back to the White family.

Elaine had always looked down on her, and if she found out Jessica got expelled, she'd be even more ruthless.

And then there was Roman. Jessica couldn't even bring herself to answer his calls now.

Seeing Jessica so heartbroken, Kayla was at a loss too. She sighed deeply, not knowing what to do.

"Let's wait until David gets back. He loves you so much; he'll figure something out. Worst case, we'll send you abroad for a couple of years to study," Kayla said.

Jessica sniffled and nodded, wiping away her tears.

Just then, urgent footsteps echoed outside the door. "Kayla, Jessica, something terrible has happened. David's been taken away by the police!"

"What?" Kayla and Jessica's faces went pale, and they jumped up.

Kayla rushed to the servant, asking, "What did you just say?"

The servant, scared by her fierce look, quickly pulled out her phone and showed it to them. "I saw it online. They say David's suspected of economic crimes and has been taken away by the police."

Kayla screamed, her vision went black, and she fainted.

The house plunged into chaos.

Meanwhile, after the shareholders' meeting, Abigail and Gregory left the DM building together.

The sky was already dark, and the streets were bustling with traffic, looking lively.

Abigail glanced at the sky and said, "Mom told me that when she bought this building, this place was just a wasteland."

Gregory followed her gaze, then looked back at her. "Our mom had great foresight. In over twenty years, the value of this land has skyrocketed."

Twenty years ago, Aramore's economy was pretty underdeveloped. Much of the area was wasteland, and there was even a slum where a bunch of homeless people lived.

Not long after Michelle bought this land, the government rolled out some policies to boost Aramore's economy.

People like Michelle jumped on the chance and started their own companies.

But not many could match Michelle's skills and achievements.

As folks said, Michelle herself was a miracle!

Hearing Gregory say "our mom" so earnestly, Abigail couldn't help but blush.

"That's my mom," Abigail corrected.

"Yeah, but you're mine, so your mom is my mom too," Gregory said with a smile, his eyes twinkling.

The light hit him just right, giving him a glow that made it hard to look away.

Abigail found herself staring at him, her eyebrows arching involuntarily.

Seeing her gaze, Gregory asked, "What are you thinking about?"

"Thinking about how lucky I am to have met you," Abigail replied.

Gregory was taken aback, a warm feeling spreading through his chest.

Before he could say anything, Abigail added, "I wish it had been you I was engaged to from the start."

For years, to fulfill Michelle's last wish, she had been chasing after Roman.

The only thing was, she had never loved Roman.

Hearing Abigail's words, Gregory fell silent.

He lowered his eyes, his thick lashes hiding the regret in them. "It's my fault."

If he hadn't been in a coma for so long, if he had just held on a bit more, maybe things would have been different.

Abigail didn't get why Gregory suddenly apologized, but she sensed his mood drop.

She stepped forward, stood on tiptoe, wrapped her arms around Gregory's neck, and kissed him on the lips. "Mr. White, I love you."

She didn't know when she started feeling this way about Gregory.

But right now, this was all she wanted to say to him.

Gregory's eyes widened, a bit in disbelief.

This was the first time he had clearly heard Abigail say "I love you."

No matter how he had tried to coax it out of her before, she never said it.

He stared at Abigail, his heart feeling both heavy and full, like something had suddenly filled it.

He even had the urge to shout, to tell the whole world that Abigail said she loved him.

He reached out and hugged Abigail's waist, pulling her close. Then, lowering his head, he kissed her deeply.

Abigail thought that after she said "I love you," Gregory would say it back.

But he didn't.

He didn't say a word, just held her and kissed her for what felt like forever.

As their lips met, Abigail felt Gregory trembling slightly, like he was trying hard to control his emotions.

Abigail kissed him back with all her heart.

Even though there were plenty of people around, they didn't care at all because, at that moment, they only had eyes for each other.

Everything else seemed to fade away compared to the person in front of them.

The kiss lasted so long that Abigail almost couldn't breathe before Gregory finally let her go.

Gregory didn't let her go right away but leaned in, resting his forehead against hers.

Those deep, cold eyes seemed to warm up suddenly.
