Chapter 128 He Is Her Confidence

After leaving the White Manor, Gregory told the driver to head back to Maple Residence.

"I'll drop you home first, then head back to the office," he said to Abigail.

Abigail didn't want to waste his time. "I can take a cab. You should go straight to work."

Suddenly, Gregory pulled her close and kissed her, leaving her stunned.

Amused by her reaction, he ruffled her hair.

The driver, seeing this, smiled. "Mrs. White, can't you see? Mr. White just wants to spend more time with you."

Abigail looked at Gregory, puzzled. "Is that true?"

Gregory pressed his forehead against hers and gave her a quick kiss. "What do you think?"

Her cheeks turned red, feeling both shy and warm inside.

Twenty minutes later, they arrived at Maple Residence.

The driver noticed someone standing outside the villa and said, "Mr. White, Mrs. White, isn't that Mr. Martin?"

Abigail, leaning against Gregory, looked out the window. Her face darkened when she saw who it was.

Since her fallout with David, she hadn't heard much about the Martin family and never considered David her father. She hadn't expected him to show up.

Lost in thought, she felt Gregory's warm hand holding hers.

"Don't be afraid, I'm here," he reassured her.

Looking into his eyes, she felt calm and confident. She nodded and got out of the car with him.

David, seeing them, quickly put on a smile and approached. "Mr. White, Abigail, long time no see."

Abigail's response was cold. "We just saw each other at the party a few days ago."

David, taken aback and displeased, reminded himself of his purpose and suppressed his irritation.

David scolded, "Abigail, is that how you talk to me? I need to discuss something important. Mr. White, could you please listen?"

David was very deferential to Gregory.

With his arm around Abigail, Gregory raised an eyebrow. "What do you want to talk about, Mr. Martin?"

David looked around, clearly distressed. "It's not convenient to talk here. Can we go inside?"

Gregory checked his watch. "Sorry, I have an important meeting soon. You have five minutes."

David gritted his teeth and explained, "The DM Group is struggling. Performance is down, and investors are pulling out. It's on the brink of collapse. Since Abigail is your wife, could you help me out?"

A few days ago, he had attempted to secure investments at the White family party, but no one had shown interest.

David suspected that Gregory might have been involved.

He had been waiting outside the company for days, hoping to persuade Gregory, but security was stringent. Even when Gregory left, he was surrounded by bodyguards.

Therefore, David decided to visit Gregory's residence in the hope of meeting him. And he did.

Abigail snapped, "You need capital to ask for help. The DM Group is nearly bankrupt. Why should Gregory invest?"

David glared at her. "Do you think running a company is easy? The DM Group is your mother's legacy. Can you bear to see it collapse?"

Abigail sneered. "So you do know it's my mother's hard work?"

Michelle had cared deeply about the DM Group, but David had exploited her illness to install his own people in the company and take over its management under the pretense of caring for her.

Abigail knew he was just making excuses. If he had truly loved Michelle, he wouldn't have had an affair with Kayla and fathered an illegitimate daughter, Jessica, just a month younger than Abigail.

Feeling humiliated, David shouted, "Shut up! What do you know? Mr. White, please help me."

Abigail feared Gregory might agree and gave him a frantic look.

Gregory smiled reassuringly at her and said coldly, "I've heard about the DM Group, but I can't help. Mr. Martin, you should think about why the DM Group thrived under Michelle but declined under you."

David had ambition but lacked the ability, leading to the DM Group's downfall. Even if the White Group invested, it wouldn't change the fact that the DM Group was destined to fail.

Gregory understood this, and so did David. However, David was unwilling to admit that he was less capable than Michelle. She had overshadowed him during her life, and that remained unchanged even after her death.

David felt resentful but kept a respectful demeanor. "Mr. White, I assure you, I will manage the company seriously and won't let you lose money!"

Gregory chuckled, "Manage seriously? Mr. Martin, a manager's ability limits a company's growth. If you want the White Group to invest, fine."

David's heart leaped with joy, but before he could smile, Gregory continued, "But on one condition: you must relinquish control of the DM Group."

David's face changed instantly, full of disbelief. "What did you say?"

Gregory, running out of patience, didn't bother repeating himself. "I'll give you three days to think about it. If you truly don't want your ex-wife's hard work to go to waste, it shouldn't matter who manages the company, right?"
