Chapter 409 The Will
Michelle tightly held Caius's hand, looking at him with worried eyes.
The others had different thoughts, and no one knew what they were thinking.
After an unknown amount of time, the doctor finally came out of the ward, looking somewhat grave.
Usually composed, Caius was the first to rush over, his voice hoarse as he asked, "Doctor, how is Darwin?"
Everyone else's hearts were in their throats, staring unblinkingly at the doctor.
Although the doctor was used to such scenes, the people in front of him were all of high status and exuded a strong presence, causing a layer of cold sweat to form on his forehead in no time.
The doctor answered, "His condition is not good. We discovered that a drug had been injected into his body. While the drug itself isn't a problem, it conflicts with another medication Darwin is taking, causing his liver to overwork."
Caius closed his eyes tightly, unable to accept the result for a moment.
Emrys and Cassian started crying again, their expressions filled with sorrow.
"I should have stayed here, shouldn't have gone home!"
"Who could be so cruel to harm Darwin right in front of us!"
At that moment, a weak and elderly cough suddenly came from the room.
Everyone rushed in, no longer caring about anything else.
Darwin looked somewhat haggard, with no trace of color on his face, and a bit of blood at the corner of his mouth.
Caius stepped forward and patted his back. "Dad, are you okay?"
Marlowe and Linnea also hurried forward, surrounding Darwin and expressing their concern for his health.
Darwin waved his hand and, with Caius's help, lay back down. "I'm fine, you don't all need to worry."
He then looked at Abigail and asked, "Abigail, how long will you be staying this time? You all are usually busy with work, no need to keep coming to see me."
Hearing his words, Abigail's eyes instantly reddened, and she tightly held his hand, saying, "Grandpa, I missed you, and I can handle the company's matters well, it won't delay my work."
Darwin smiled and nodded, his eyes filled with affection.
"By the way, I designed a piece of clothing for you myself, would you like to see it?" Abigail took out the gift box she had brought and looked at Darwin with anticipation.
Darwin raised an eyebrow and smiled. "Oh? Designed especially for me? I must take a good look then."
It was said that Abigail was a very talented fashion designer, but the most important thing was the thought behind it.
Abigail opened the box, took out the piece of clothing, and displayed it in front of Darwin, smiling as she said, "Grandpa, I specially chose the most comfortable fabric and added many small designs. You will look great in it."
Abigail's sweet words quickly made Darwin very happy.
He was very pleased but still modestly said, "No, I'm too old now."
Abigail pouted and said coquettishly, "Not at all, you are very handsome, not old at all! Just look at Dad, our family's good genes are very strong!"
Darwin glared at her, but the smile never left his face.
He took the piece of clothing and looked at it carefully, liking it more and more. "It looks great, Abigail is really talented."
Seeing this, Linnea quietly pouted and muttered under her breath, "It's just a piece of clothing, what's so special about it? If you really like it, I can buy you ten!"
Such flattery! Where did she learn it? Despite the wait, Abigail showed no consideration and even brought a gift to please Darwin. How could Linnea be happy about that?
Hearing someone complain about Abigail, Michelle's usually gentle expression instantly turned cold. "It's just a gift from the child to Dad. If Linnea cares about Dad, you can give gifts anytime."
Linnea was choked, her face turning red with anger, and she was about to retort.
But before she could speak, Cassian gave her a stern look. "Stop talking."
Linnea immediately fell silent, not daring to say another word.
Darwin glanced at her but didn't respond, instead smiling at Abigail. "Thank you for the gift, Abigail. I really like it. I'll try it on later."
Abigail said, "No rush. If you like it, I'll design more for you in the future."
Darwin smiled and nodded, his eyes tinged with melancholy. Though the doctor hadn't said it outright, he knew his time was short. Would he ever wear Abigail's designs? Closing his eyes, he pondered the many regrets he still wished to mend.
After a long time, he slowly opened his mouth, "I believe the doctor has already told you the results? I probably don't have much time left, right?"
As soon as he said this, the room fell silent for a few minutes.
Caius said seriously, "Dad, don't say that. Even if we can't treat you here, I can bring in better doctors."
Darwin shook his head, a hint of relief in his eyes. "No need, I've lived long enough. Since you're all here, let me take this opportunity to explain a few things while I'm still clear-headed."
Hearing Darwin's words, Marlowe and Linnea immediately stood up straight, their expressions becoming serious.
Abigail's eyes, however, slowly turned red.
She never expected that after only a few meetings with Darwin, they would soon be separated by life and death.
Darwin took in everyone's expressions and continued, "Actually, I made a will over a month ago. I know this situation wasn't an accident but man-made. But I want to tell you, no matter what tricks you play behind the scenes, it won't change the outcome."
Hearing this, Marlowe and Linnea's faces changed dramatically, looking at each other in panic and confusion.
When was the will made?
Why didn't they know anything about it?
Darwin seemed to see through their thoughts and explained, "I didn't tell you before because I was worried you would feel unbalanced. But now that I don't have much time left, it doesn't matter if I say it. The Worthington Group is what it is today because of Caius's management, so he will inherit 30% of the estate, and the rest will be divided among you."
Emrys and Cassian's faces didn't look good.
Darwin originally only had 42% of the shares, so they would only get 11%.
