Chapter 8 Eccentric Couple

"Enough!"

David's face darkened. He glanced at Kayla, who had rushed into his arms crying, then looked at Abigail with annoyance.

He softened his tone, feigning seriousness, and said to Abigail, "Abigail, don't be unreasonable. Jessica is still young and foolish. Just tolerate her, okay?"

"Young?" Abigail glanced at Jessica and nodded. "Yes, she's only a month younger than me. She sure is young."

There was a hint of sarcasm in her tone, even though her words seemed plain. David could sense it.
He felt a bit embarrassed, and his face darkened as he said, "She's your sister, why can't you consider her feelings? Yes, Jessica did something wrong, but Roman likes her. It's useless for you to force him to be with you. You'd better talk to the White family and give the engagement to Jessica so that everyone can be happy. I'll find you a better man in the future."

By the end of his statement, David was no longer as firm as he was at the beginning.

He also knew that his words were unfair to Abigail. But he believed that Abigail had always been strong since she was young. Even if she lost the engagement, it wouldn't be a big deal.

But Jessica was different; she was fragile. If she lost the person she deeply loved, she would definitely be in pain.

Abigail looked at David, unable to believe that these were the words coming from her biological father.

All her hopes were extinguished. She felt extremely disappointed in David.

Accompanying that sentence was Abigail's inner pain. She felt like sharp blades were cutting her heart, bleeding profusely.

She stood alone in the spacious living room as if meeting David for the first time.

Although she had known that David favored Jessica, after all, she was his biological daughter.

Abigail never wanted to believe that David could be so heartless and unable to distinguish right from wrong.

However, reality was far more cruel than she had imagined.

She sarcastically smiled, her lowered eyelashes hiding the disappointment and tears in her eyes.

"I will break off the engagement, but not because of you, but because Roman doesn't deserve it. Dirty things should be thrown in the trash."

This sentence was directed at Roman and David.

David's face changed drastically. He pointed at her angrily and swore, "Bastard, say it again and see what happens! Come back here and explain yourself!"

But no matter how he cursed, Abigail didn't even look at him again and went straight upstairs.

David's anger had nowhere to vent, so he smashed several precious antique vases.

The sound of porcelain breaking and his angry curses intertwined downstairs, but Abigail seemed to have not heard a thing as she closed her bedroom door.

She packed her clothes and some important items into a suitcase, getting ready to move out.

Abigail found it ridiculous. Although she had lived in this house for 22 years, there were hardly any belongings in her room.

After Kayla and Jessica moved in, Jessica took all her beautiful clothes and jewelry.

She went to find David, but he said, "Abigail, you're Jessica's sister. It would help if you were accommodating and satisfying her. It's just a few pieces of clothing and jewelry. Don't be so petty."

In the past five years, Jessica had taken all the valuable items from her room.

The only thing left was a ring that Michelle had entrusted to Abigail before she passed away.

Judging by its color and quality, this ring was definitely a top-notch piece. Although she didn't know much about jewelry, she could tell that it was extremely valuable.
Abigail had always kept the ring locked away in a safe, never taking it out, so even David had no idea of its existence.

She gently caressed the ring, cherishing it, and put it in her bag, ready to take it away.

As she went downstairs, Kayla and Jessica were still sitting on the couch, crying, while David was impatiently trying to comfort them.

When David heard footsteps, he immediately looked up and saw Abigail carrying a suitcase, making him raise an eyebrow.

"What are you doing?" he asked.

"Isn't it obvious? I'm moving out. Since you've never cared about me, we'll start living our own lives and not interfere with each other anymore."

"Nonsense! This is your home. Where are you going to move to?" David couldn't understand why Abigail was always opposed to him. Although she used to be understanding as a child, she often caused him distress as she grew up.

Abigail brought the suitcase down and stood in front of David.

"Home? Is this really my home?" she asked with a smile.

Looking into her bright eyes, David felt a sudden pang of guilt for some reason.

Abigail sneered and looked triumphantly at Jessica, mocking her, "You think you can marry into the White family just because you've hooked up with Roman? Unless I decide to break off the engagement, you won't have it your way. "

With her suitcase in tow, she departed without a backward glance.

Watching Abigail's determined departure, Jessica felt humiliated by her.

Her eyes turned red, filled with resentment and hatred. She angrily shouted at Abigail, "Abigail, Roman doesn't like you at all with your malicious behavior!"

Abigail halted her steps and couldn't help but chuckle. "What's the value of his liking? I'm now Mrs. White. Why do I need his cheap affection?"

She had no intention of telling the Martin family about her marriage to Gregory; saying so was only meant to provoke Jessica.

The thing Jessica cared most about was whether she could marry Roman.

"Abigail, do you think you can beat me like this? Dream on! Roman promised me he would marry me for sure!"

Perhaps being provoked by Abigail, Jessica stopped pretending and mercilessly yelled at her.

In contrast, Abigail remained calm, as if the one being provoked wasn't her.

"Oh really? Since when has Roman had authority in the White family?"

Abigail's tone was calm, but it completely infuriated Jessica.

As long as Grace was around, Roman didn't have the autonomy to make decisions.

So, Roman's promise, which Jessica was most proud of, was worth nothing.
Abigail's eyes were filled with obvious mockery, and she couldn't control her emotions any longer. She couldn't help but curse, "Abigail, you bitch. Can't you have any shame and voluntarily leave Roman?"
"Sure." Abigail crossed her arms and coldly looked at Jessica.
The response took Jessica aback. "Really?"
She knew Abigail would definitely compromise!
However, Abigail's words completely crushed her hope.
"Of course, as long as you give my mom's company back to me, I'll agree to call off the engagement. How about that?"
"Abigail, you bastard!" David was so furious that veins popped on his forehead. He held his chest, which was heaving intensely as if he was about to faint any second.
Abigail pretended to be surprised. "You don't want to? Could it be that you want me to call off the engagement for nothing? How can there be such a good deal?"
Jessica shifted her hopeful gaze to David.
The current DM was nothing more than an empty shell. Did she still need this money when she married into the White family?
But David gritted his teeth and stared at Abigail. "You're dreaming!"
He now hated Abigail with a passion.
He had devoted half of his life to DM. Even if his mismanagement had led the company to the brink of bankruptcy, he would never let go.
Abigail sighed regretfully and turned to leave. "Since you're not willing, then forget it. But I've given you a chance. It's your fault for not taking it."
As David watched Abigail calmly walk away with her suitcase, he almost choked.
A sharp pain pierced his chest. His vision went dark, and he fainted on the spot.
As he collapsed, Kayla and Jessica panicked, and even the servants who had been watching from the sidelines rushed over.
The entire Martin Villa was in chaos. The servants even called an ambulance.
