Chapter 436 Going Home

After the results were revealed, everyone left the study.

Mireille clung to Abigail's hand, her face lighting up with relief after the tense session. "It's over, finally! I barely knew any of those answers, so Caius probably won't expect much from me anymore. I'm finally free!"

Abigail chuckled. "You really dislike studying medicine that much?"

Mireille pouted dramatically. "Not really. Some people just aren't wired for this stuff. I call it accepting my own mediocrity!"

In truth, Linnea had been thrilled when she learned Caius intended to teach Mireille medicine. She had hoped it might secure Mireille a stake in the family inheritance someday.

But Mireille lacked even the basic aptitude for medicine.

Even with decades of effort, she likely wouldn't progress much. Letting go early was the smarter choice.

Mireille suddenly looked around conspiratorially. Once she confirmed no one was paying attention, she leaned closer to Abigail and whispered, "I think Caius plans to leave the inheritance to you. Even though you're technically not his real daughter, it's obvious he favors you more than anyone else, even Quinn."

Abigail's smile faltered, her thoughts clouded with doubt. "Was Dad never kind to Quinn before?"

Mireille hesitated, then shrugged. "Not cruel, but distant. Quinn's mother trapped Caius into fatherhood by drugging him—imagine the humiliation for someone as proud as Caius."

Abigail nodded thoughtfully, her chest tightening as she imagined how difficult Quinn's childhood must have been.

As Abigail lingered on this, Mireille added, "Still, Caius wasn't that bad to him. Think about it—how many families would openly accept an illegitimate child and give them the Worthington name?"

Abigail fell silent, her heart tangled with a mix of sympathy and reflection.

When Abigail returned to her room and spotted Gregory waiting for her, her face lit up. "When did you get here? Why didn't you tell me?"

Gregory just pulled her into his arms and kissed her deeply.

Abigail's heart raced, her breath catching as she gazed up at his handsome face.

After what felt like an eternity, Gregory finally murmured against her ear, "I wanted to surprise you. Was it worth it?"

Panting slightly, Abigail nodded, her clear eyes sparkling. "I love it."

Gregory's lips quirked into a smirk as he lifted her chin. "If you loved it, then how about we try it again?"

Her lips were soft and sweet, carrying a unique allure Gregory found irresistible.

He couldn't get enough of her, and time slipped by unnoticed until Abigail gently pushed him away, catching her breath.

Leaning against his chest, Abigail hugged him tightly, nuzzling his shoulder. "Is your work at the company finished?"

"Not entirely. But I couldn't stay away any longer." Gregory admitted.

Abigail's hand traced his cheek gently, her fingers lingering on his faintly tired expression. "You've been working so hard lately. Aren't you exhausted?"

Gregory caught her hand, his tone soft but firm. "Never. Seeing you makes everything worth it."

Abigail's chest tightened with emotion, and after a pause, she whispered, "Gregory, let's go back to Aramore."

Gregory blinked in surprise. "What?"

Abigail repeated, "I miss home—our home."

Gregory's heart ached at her words. He had spent countless nights reaching for her in his sleep, only to find cold emptiness beside him. Every day, he could only numb himself with work.

He wanted to take her back immediately. But he hesitated, thinking of Caius's plans. "Do you think dad will agree?"

Abigail buried her face into his shoulder, smiling softly. "I don't care about that. I just want to be with you, always. Besides, the baby misses you too."

Gregory's heart melted. "Alright. I'll talk to him. We'll leave today."

Abigail beamed. "Let's do it together."

Hand in hand, they headed for the study.

When Caius heard Abigail's request, he choked on his drink, coughing loudly. "You want to go back to Aramore?"

Abigail nodded earnestly. "Yes, I haven't been back in a while."

Caius's expression darkened. "Nah. You haven't finished the medical texts. You have talent—you shouldn't waste it."

Abigail turned to Gregory for support, then smiled at Caius. "Even if I return to Aramore, I can still study. The books will come with me."

Caius said, "But—"

"No buts, Dad. I know you want me to master medicine and eventually take over the Worthington Group, but I have to be honest—I don't enjoy managing companies. I just want to pursue my own passions," Abigail interrupted gently.

Caius's face reddened with frustration. "If you don't inherit the company, are you saying I should let it crumble?"

"Dad, please don't get upset," Abigail said, stepping forward to soothe him with a light pat on the back.

Caius's glare softened slightly, though the fire in his eyes remained.

Abigail continued, "Actually, Quinn is better suited for this responsibility. Why not hand the company to him?"

Caius's eyes narrowed suspiciously. "Are these your thoughts, or did Quinn put you up to this?"

"They're mine," Abigail assured him. "I know you've harbored resentment toward Quinn's mother, but none of that is his fault. He's your son, and he deserves your trust."

At present, Quinn was the only one capable of supporting the Worthington family.

Gregory stepped in, his voice calm. "Dad, I can vouch for Quinn. He's more than capable of running the company."

Caius fixed him with a sharp look. "Worried Abigail might outshine you if she takes over?"

Even when questioned, Gregory remained unfazed. "No, I would never interfere with Abigail's choices. I just can't bear it. Managing DM has already drained her, and the Worthington Group is hundreds of times larger and more powerful than DM."

Caius glanced at Abigail's frail frame, his expression wavering. He had wanted her to inherit the company because he feared it would decline after he and Michelle were gone. As their biological daughter, it was natural for him to pave the way for her.

But he had overlooked the fact that Abigail was pregnant and might not have the energy or time for such a responsibility.

After a long contemplation, Caius finally said, "Alright, I'll consider it. If you want to return, I won't stop you. Just remember to take the medical books with you; the legacy must continue."

Seeing Caius relent, Abigail immediately became excited. "Thank you, Dad!"
