Chapter 458 Tell the Truth
The servant sneered and suddenly regained her confidence. "If you have the guts, go ahead. I'd like to see if Mr. Worthington kicks you out first or me."
The internet was abuzz with the news. All of Aerilon, and even Capitise, knew Michelle had an illegitimate daughter behind Caius's back. She couldn't believe Caius would willingly raise someone else's child!
At that moment, footsteps suddenly echoed from the stairs, followed by a cold, stern voice. "Oh? You have such authority in the Worthington family? How come I didn't know?"
Hearing the familiar voice, the servant's heart tightened. She turned around to see Caius, who had somehow appeared without her noticing.
It was unclear how much he had heard.
The servant broke out in a cold sweat, her legs nearly giving way as she almost knelt on the ground. "Mr. Worthington, let me explain. It's not what you think."
Caius sneered, walking up to the servant and looking down at her. "Not like that? Then how is it?"
Although his tone was calm, it carried an indescribable sense of oppression, making her shiver uncontrollably.
The servant's face turned pale, her lips trembling. She hadn't been at the Worthington Mansion long and had always dreamed of marrying into wealth. Getting into the mansion felt like a heavenly opportunity. She schemed to get close to Caius, but he remained cold, showing affection only for Michelle.
Seeing such a noble and proud man speak gently to Michelle, her jealousy almost overflowed.
When news of the illegitimate daughter broke, she saw her chance. Overconfident, she lost her composure and got caught. Lowering her head, she felt hatred mixed with hope. What if Caius no longer liked Abigail and stood by her instead?
However, the next second, Caius's words shattered all her fantasies and hopes. "Who gave you the guts to disrespect the eldest daughter of the Worthington family?"
Everyone was shocked. Caius still acknowledged Abigail as the eldest daughter of the Worthington family. How could this be?
The servant who had previously made things difficult for Abigail was also dumbfounded. "How could this be? Why?"
Caius didn't spare her another glance, instead looking at Abigail with a gentle gaze, speaking seriously, "No matter what happens, Abigail is the daughter I recognize, always will be. If you don't want to acknowledge her, then there's no need for you to stay in the Worthington Mansion."
Emrys walked in from outside, just in time to hear this, and couldn't help but applaud. "Caius is really magnanimous. If it were me, I couldn't be so generous in such a situation."
Abigail glanced at Emrys, her expression turning cold.
Although Emrys had a smile on his lips, his words were clearly a veiled insult to Caius, implying he was willing to raise someone else's child despite being cuckolded.
Abigail said, "Emrys, my dad is nothing like you, cold-blooded enough to harm the very people who raised him."
"You!" Emrys's face turned red with anger, glaring at Abigail.
Abigail stared back without flinching. "What? Did I say something wrong?"
Emrys wanted to say more, but Caius stepped in front of Abigail. "Enough, Emrys. Stay out of my business."
He led Abigail and Gregory upstairs. At the staircase, Gregory paused, whispering something in Emrys's ear that made his face pale with fear. Gregory's lips curled into a cold smile as he turned and left, leaving everyone wondering what he had said.
Abigail followed Caius into the study, asking worriedly, "Dad, what's going on? Who spread the news? Is Mom okay?"
Caius shook his head, his tone heavy. "I've been trying to keep it hidden, but I don't know how long I can manage."
To be honest, he least wanted this matter exposed, but the news had already spread, leaving no room for maneuver.
Abigail looked at Caius without blinking, suddenly speaking, "Why not take this opportunity to tell Mom?"
