Chapter 265 The Real Culprit Behind the Leaked Design Draft
Two days later, Susan's condition had stabilized.
Lying in her hospital bed, she saw today's news and discovered that Kayla had been taken in for questioning by the police, which brought a smile to her face.
She even started humming a tune, feeling quite cheerful.
Gently stroking her belly, she whispered, "Baby, I've finally removed a major obstacle for you. Once your dad is out, the three of us can be together."
What made her even happier was that DM was in a new crisis, and Abigail probably wouldn't have time to deal with her.
As long as David got out of prison, he would surely be able to take back DM.
The baby in her belly could very well be David's only son.
When the time comes, the inheritance of DM would fall into her son's hands.
As for Abigail, she was just a stepping stone.
That's why she had initially insisted on staying at DM, disguising herself.
Only by doing so could she gradually gain Abigail's trust and collect negative information about her.
Thinking about everything she had done, Susan felt even more delighted.
Everyone said Abigail was both beautiful and capable, but in the end, wasn't she being played like a puppet?
Abigail might not know that all her hard work and dedication for DM were ultimately just paving the way for Susan's son.
While Susan was daydreaming about a bright future, the door to her hospital room was suddenly pushed open from the outside.
Susan turned her head and saw several police officers come in.
"Hello, are you Susan Campbell?"
"Yes, I am." Susan swallowed nervously, looking at them in confusion. "What do you want?"
The police exchanged glances, and Susan immediately had a bad feeling.
The next second, she heard one of them say coldly, "You are suspected of stealing trade secrets. Please come with us."
Susan was shocked upon hearing this.
She tightly gripped the bed sheets, her face pale as she shook her head. "I didn't! You must be mistaken!"
The police remained expressionless and said sternly, "We have solid evidence. Please do not obstruct our investigation. Come with us."
Seeing the police slowly approaching, Susan panicked.
She shrank back, tears streaming down her face. "Please, don't arrest me. I'm pregnant. I can't go to the police station!"
If this got out, she would be finished!
The police wanted to take her away but hesitated to use force because she was pregnant.
This gave Susan a chance to escape. She jumped out of bed and ran toward the door.
At that moment, she had only one thought: she couldn't be caught!
If she was taken by the police, her child would be born with a stain on their record!
She couldn't allow that to happen!
But just as she reached the door, Susan suddenly stopped, staring in shock at the person in front of her.
"It's you. You called the police, didn't you? Why? Why would you do this? The baby in my belly is your own brother!" Susan shouted.
Abigail quietly watched the woman in front of her, feeling deeply troubled.
Just a few days ago, she had been her capable assistant.
Diligent, efficient, never careless.
But now, she was wearing a hospital gown, her hair disheveled, her face haggard, and her eyes full of resentment.
Taking a deep breath, Abigail said, "Susan, my mom only gave birth to me. I don't acknowledge anyone else."
She didn't even acknowledge Jessica, let alone the unborn child in Susan's belly.
"Moreover, I've found out that you were the one who deliberately filmed the video of me and Tom and framed another colleague," Abigail continued. "You were also behind the leak of the manuscript. The deleted surveillance footage has been restored."
"Impossible! That's absolutely impossible!" Susan's eyes widened in disbelief, unable to accept what she was hearing.
In her mind, although Abigail was smarter than she had anticipated, how could the deleted surveillance footage be restored?
She must be lying!
That must be it!
Seeing her disbelief, Abigail shook her head slightly and played the video on her phone.
"Susan, you acted too hastily. You forgot that there are many skilled hackers in this world. Your deletion skills are insignificant to them," Abigail said.
Susan stared intently at the surveillance footage on Abigail's phone, her legs suddenly giving way as she collapsed to the ground.
The police seized the moment to step forward and escort her out of the hospital.
Before leaving, Susan turned around, choking back tears as she asked, "Why? Why are you doing this to me? Abigail, I shouldn't have shown you any mercy!"
Abigail sneered, "Mercy? It's because you're incompetent. You failed to bring me down, and now you're facing the consequences."
Susan's eyes were filled with intense resentment and hatred, as if she wanted to devour Abigail alive.
Abigail personally watched as the police took Susan away, then left the hospital herself.
She didn't go home immediately but wandered aimlessly on the streets, pondering why things had come to this point. 'Who in the company can I truly trust? Can I really lead the company to greater heights?'
The news of Susan's arrest quickly spread throughout DM.
Everyone's first reaction was disbelief.
In their minds, Susan had always been a responsible, mature, and steady executive assistant.
However, the events of the past two days had completely overturned their perceptions.
Not only had Susan been secretly involved with David, but she was also pregnant with his child!
And that wasn't all. She had secretly filmed a video of Abigail and Tom, spreading rumors that Abigail was cheating on Gregory!
Even worse, the recent leak of their design drafts to another company's homepage was also connected to her!
One incident after another, all these events combined left everyone in shock.
People couldn't believe it and started discussing it in the group chat.
This led to chaos within the company, with almost no one able to focus on their work.
Seeing the chaotic scene in the company, Abigail suddenly felt exhausted.
She sighed, feeling utterly drained. At that moment, Lily hurried over, looking at Abigail with concern. "Ms. Martin, are you okay?"
Abigail smiled and shook her head. As Gregory had said, this was a necessary part of her growth.
She would take this as a lesson and be more cautious in her hiring decisions in the future.
Lily nodded and followed Abigail into the office.
Abigail said, "Susan won't be coming back. Lily, from today on, you'll take over her duties."
Lily's mouth dropped open in surprise, pointing at herself in disbelief. "Ms. Martin, I'm just a newbie who knows nothing. I'm afraid I can't handle it."
A gentle smile slowly appeared on Abigail's delicate face. She said, "Don't be nervous. Haven't you been doing well so far? Just keep doing what you've been doing."
