Chapter 395 Tom's Background

David struggled desperately when he saw Abigail checking his communication records, a wave of panic rising in his heart. "Abigail, give me back my phone, give it back now!"

If she found out that he had sent Jessica to Aerilon, who knew what she would do.

Abigail's eyes narrowed slightly as she glanced at the phone screen and then at David. "What are you afraid of?"

"I'm not." David's eyes flickered, refusing to admit anything.

Abigail continued to ask, "When did you meet Tom? What has he told you?"

"What Tom? What are you talking about? I don't even know him. Stop slandering me. I'm telling you, Abigail, if you dare to lay a hand on me, I won't let you get away with it!"

Seeing his honesty, Abigail stopped questioning him and twirled the phone before slipping it into her pocket. "Given your poor behavior lately, I'm confiscating your phone. I hope you learn your lesson and behave."

With that, she ignored David's furious shouts and turned to leave.

David was on the brink of despair. Without his phone, he couldn't reach Jessica or get Tom's help to avoid jail. Alone on the hospital bed, he felt utterly hopeless. What could he do? Abigail and Gregory would never let him off the hook.

Leaving the hospital, Abigail signaled to a bodyguard, who handed her a piece of wire. With a nod of approval, she deftly removed the SIM card and discarded it into the trash. She wanted to see how Tom would contact David now.

Casually, she tossed the phone back to the bodyguard. "Do you have any computer experts? I want Tom's address based on his phone's location within three days."

"Yes."

At that moment, the phone suddenly vibrated. It was Gregory calling.

Abigail answered, her icy demeanor softening slightly, her tone becoming more gentle. "Gregory?"

"What are you doing? I'm at DM, and they said you're not here."

Abigail's eyes flickered, and she tightened her grip on the phone. "I'll be back right away!"

After hanging up, she immediately instructed the driver to return to the company.

Ten minutes later, Abigail took the elevator back to the office. Gregory's tall figure was sitting on the sofa, a half-smoked cigarette in his hand, and a cup of freshly brewed tea on the coffee table in front of him.

Abigail ran over and sat on Gregory's lap without any hesitation, smiling as she asked, "Aren't you busy? Why did you come over at this time?"

"I happened to be nearby for a business meeting and thought I'd drop by. Where did you go? Leo said you took a batch of bodyguards from him."

Abigail rested her cheek on Gregory's shoulder, rubbing it lightly, and nodded casually. "I saw David."

"What did he do to upset you this time?" Gregory lowered his head, asking while playing with Abigail's slender hand.

Abigail snorted softly and briefly recounted what had happened today, fuming. "What does Tom mean by this? What does this have to do with him, and why does he have to interfere?"

Gregory gently patted Abigail's back, soothing her in a low voice. "Don't be angry. It's not worth it to get upset over someone like him."

"I just feel uncomfortable. How can he attack indiscriminately like this? Was his life so miserable before that he can't stand to see others doing well?" Just thinking about Tom's seemingly indifferent but secretly scheming face made her angry.

When she caught Tom's weakness, she would definitely teach him a lesson!

Seeing Abigail's fierce expression, Gregory couldn't help but chuckle. "I'll find an opportunity to have a good talk with Tom."

He didn't want things to escalate to the point of no return.

Abigail squinted her eyes in confusion, cupping his face and studying him seriously.

With his face pinched, Gregory asked helplessly, "Why are you looking at me like that?"

Abigail wrinkled her nose and said, "I just feel like you're different when it comes to Tom. Why?"

Legitimate and illegitimate children usually clash, and Tom harbored deep hatred for Gregory. Yet, despite his power, Gregory tolerated Tom, as if he had something in mind.

Gregory shook his head, a complex emotion flashing in his deep eyes. "Actually, you were right about one thing. Tom's childhood could be described as miserable."

Abigail blinked. "What do you mean?"

Gregory adjusted his posture, holding Abigail's slender waist, and said slowly, "The year before my dad passed away, to please my mom, he drove out all his mistresses and illegitimate children. My dad was a very stubborn and proud man. Although he had countless women in his life, he only truly loved my mom. So, to get her forgiveness, he was very ruthless to those mistresses and illegitimate children."

Abigail listened quietly, holding Gregory tightly.

Even though Gregory didn't show it, Abigail could clearly feel the sadness emanating from him.

"And then?" Abigail asked.

"After that, those people didn't get a penny. Some with family backgrounds went back home, but Tom's mother came from a poor background. Without the support of the White family, she lost the means to survive, especially with a child to care for."

Abigail frowned, thinking Gregory's father was heartless—cherishing some and discarding others like trash.

Gregory continued, "Do you remember the kidnapping when you were a child? The mastermind was actually Tom's mother."

Abigail's eyes widened in shock. "What? How could that be?"

Gregory's lips curled into a bitter smile. "I only found out recently. After Tom and his mother were kicked out of the White family, she was raped while wandering the streets. Later, she started working at a nightclub."

Abigail was speechless, unable to fathom the shadows in Tom's heart from growing up in such an environment.

But she couldn't help but say, "Even so, what does that have to do with you? If there's anyone to blame, it should be your father, right?"
