Chapter 415 Picking Up Darwin and Returning to the Worthington Mansion
Darwin said, "You didn't take his life directly, which is already merciful. From now on, whether he lives or dies has nothing to do with us."
Caius nodded. "Yes, I know."
Michelle stepped forward, interrupting their conversation, and said worriedly, "Dad, let us handle these things. You should get some rest."
Darwin shook his head and smiled. "I'm fine, don't worry. Oh, by the way, I tried on the clothes Abigail sent me. They fit perfectly, and I really like them."
Hearing his unabashed praise for Abigail, Michelle's expression softened. "Yes, Abigail is an excellent designer. You must look great in her clothes, Dad."
Darwin sighed and said, "I don't know when I can be discharged. Why don't you take me home? Staying in the hospital all day is really boring."
"But your body hasn't recovered yet." Michelle looked at Caius, her eyes filled with undisguised worry.
Caius pursed his lips and advised softly, "You should stay in the hospital for now."
Darwin's health couldn't handle any more stress.
Darwin knew what they were worried about and smiled helplessly. "Even if I stay in the hospital, I probably won't live much longer. I don't want to spend the last days of my life in a cold hospital."
Caius was silent for a long time and didn't immediately respond. Instead, he said, "I'll think about it."
Seeing that he was considering it, Darwin's eyes lit up with hope.
Three days later, with the doctor's permission, Caius brought Darwin back to the Worthington Mansion. He and Michelle moved in to be with Darwin in his final days, joined by Abigail and Gregory. Special rooms were prepared for them. During the day, Abigail walked with Darwin outside.
When Darwin couldn't go out, he would call his old friends and invite them to the Worthington Mansion to play chess and show off the clothes his granddaughter made.
Several top figures from various fields looked on with envy.
"Darwin, you're really something. This outfit looks great on you. It makes you look so much more spirited."
"You're really lucky. Having one granddaughter is already great, and now you have another one."
"Granddaughters are so considerate and well-behaved, unlike my grandsons who are so naughty they could drive someone crazy!"
Listening to everyone praise his granddaughter, Darwin couldn't help but smile.
He nodded in agreement. "That's right. Those mischievous grandsons can't compare to a thoughtful and considerate granddaughter."
Everyone had heard about Darwin being betrayed by his own son and fell silent.
Big families were like this; no matter how glamorous they appearred on the surface, they couldn't hide the dirt and filth within.
Wherever interests were involved, conflicts arose. The Worthington family was no exception. They all looked at Darwin with sympathy. Because of this incident, many prominent families had already prepared and publicized their wills to avoid future troubles.
Abigail sat quietly on the side, listening to their conversation and watching them play chess.
Until it was almost evening, seeing the fatigue on Darwin's face, she quickly stood up. "You've been chatting for so long, you must be tired. Why don't you stay for dinner tonight?"
The elderly guests waved their hands and politely declined with a smile. "No, no, we'll come back next time. You take good care of your grandfather."
Abigail personally saw the elderly guests off. When she returned, she found Darwin already dozing off.
She smiled helplessly and walked up. "Grandpa, don't sleep here. Let's go back to your room, okay? Come, let me help you up."
Darwin slowly opened his eyes, nodded, and let her help him up. After settling him, Abigail fetched a glass of water and returned to her room.
Gregory was working on the sofa when he heard a noise at the door and looked up. Seeing Abigail, he closed his laptop, set it aside, and opened his arms. With a softened heart and a smile, Abigail leapt into his lap.
Abigail called out, "Gregory."
Gregory asked, "Yes, are you tired?"
Abigail said, "No, just a bit sad. I feel like time is slipping away, and I don't know how much longer I can be with Grandpa."
Gregory held her tightly, his eyes filled with uncontrollable heartache. "Don't think too much. Life and death are beyond our control. All we can do is cherish each day."
Abigail's eyes reddened, and she nodded lightly. "Okay."
They hugged for a long time. Gregory looked down and saw that Abigail was still sad. He smiled helplessly. "Alright, we're about to go out for dinner. Are you sure you want to go out with red, puffy eyes?"
Abigail sniffed and said discontentedly, "No, I won't."
Gregory said, "Alright, alright. Our Abigail is the strongest girl in the world and the bravest mom, the best role model for our baby."
Abigail finally smiled through her tears. "That's more like it."
Seeing her mood improve, Gregory finally felt relieved and held her hand as they walked out. "Let's go out now."
"Okay."
Downstairs in the dining room, everyone was already gathered. Seeing Abigail and Gregory come down hand in hand, Mireille couldn't help but tease, "You two finally decided to come down? I thought you weren't hungry."
As soon as she finished speaking, a cold gaze swept over her, sending a chill down Mireille's spine. She instinctively shrank back, terrified. Gregory's gaze was far more intimidating than Caius's. While Caius remained cold, Gregory never hid his disapproval.
Seeing Mireille shrink back, Abigail laughed. "Alright, don't scare her."
Hearing Abigail's reminder, Gregory finally withdrew his gaze and sat down with Abigail.
Darwin looked at them with a smile and said helplessly, "Alright, alright, let's eat. After dinner, go back and rest early. Everyone's had a long day."
