Chapter 364 She Doesn't Need to Compromise

Gregory lowered his eyes to look at Abigail, raising an eyebrow slightly.

Meeting his eyes, Abigail inexplicably felt a bit guilty. She blinked, her gaze clear and innocent.

She thought, 'Don't ask me; I know nothing.'

"Why are you all standing here? Abigail, come in and sit down. Mr. White, you too."

Darwin, supported by Caius and Michelle on either side, walked in. Although he still looked a bit haggard, his expression showed he was in a good mood.

Abigail sweetly called out, "Grandpa, Dad, Mom."

Darwin nodded in satisfaction and waved her over to his side.

Under the puzzled and jealous gazes of everyone, Abigail walked over and sat next to Darwin.

"Grandpa, are you feeling better? Is it really okay for you to be discharged?"

"I'm much better now, Abigail. Don't worry."

Darwin couldn't be happier facing his granddaughter's concern. How could she be so well-behaved and considerate?

The more he looked at Abigail, the more he liked her, though he silently cursed Caius hundreds of times in his heart.

If it weren't for his stupidity, not recognizing his own daughter, how could Abigail have suffered so many years outside?

While his health hadn't completely failed, he just wanted to make up for it as much as possible.

Before Marlowe and Linnea could say anything, Mireille couldn't hold back any longer.

"Can just anyone enter the Worthington family's door now? And not even greet anyone after coming in? Such lack of manners!"

Mireille was livid. She had always been the pampered princess of the Worthington family, especially doted on by Darwin. She was set to inherit a large sum when he passed.

Now, out of nowhere, someone else was competing for affection and inheritance. How could she not be furious?

And that wasn't even the worst part.

Abigail's face was exquisitely delicate, with fair, smooth skin and lively almond eyes that seemed to speak. It was a natural beauty Mireille couldn't attain, despite multiple plastic surgeries.

Mireille's gaze towards Abigail gradually filled with hostility.

Hearing her words, Darwin couldn't help but frown. "Mireille, this is your sister. While you're lecturing her, have you reflected on yourself? Where are your manners? Is this how I usually teach you?"

Mireille was rendered speechless, her face turning red with anger.

She looked to Linnea for help, hoping she would plead on her behalf.

Linnea, being shrewd, knew better than to anger Darwin at this moment and could only let her daughter be wronged.

"Dad, don't mind her. Mireille is just having a hard time accepting this sudden change. I'll talk to her."

"Mom!" Mireille stomped her foot in frustration, pouting in dissatisfaction.

Linnea gave her a look, signaling her to calm down.

Marlowe, on the other hand, was much more tactful. She was always smooth in her actions, never giving anyone a reason to criticize her.

Seeing Mireille being scolded, she sneered inwardly but wore a smile when looking at Abigail.

"Abigail, right? Caius and Michelle have good taste. You're so beautiful. Anyone would think you and Michelle are mother and daughter."

Abigail looked at Marlowe twice.

On the surface, this seemed like a compliment, but in reality, it was a subtle insinuation that Abigail might be Michelle's illegitimate daughter.

It was also a warning to Abigail that she was only favored by Caius because of her resemblance to Michelle, but that didn't mean she could rise to the top.

However, what Marlowe didn't know was that Abigail didn't care about her words at all.

Hearing someone say she looked like her mom made her happy.

A sweet, soft smile slowly appeared on her delicate face, her eyes filled with joy. "Thank you for the compliment."

Marlowe fell silent, her face reddening with anger and frustration. Was that a compliment? Did this person not understand English?

Unable to speak up in front of Darwin and Caius, she swallowed her anger.

Caius and Michelle frowned, feeling displeased.

Their daughter had just returned home and was already being bullied. How could they not be angry as parents?

Caius glanced at Mireille coldly, his voice icy and almost devoid of warmth.

"Is Marlowe jealous? Orson doesn't seem to resemble you much."

Upon hearing this, Emrys and Marlowe's faces instantly changed.

Perhaps others didn't know, but they were well aware of Orson's true identity.

Orson wasn't Marlowe's biological son but an illegitimate child Emrys had with another woman.

Marlowe had never had children and, feeling guilty for not being able to bear a child for her husband, had to reluctantly accept the illegitimate child despite her disdain.

This had always been a sore spot for Marlowe.

Having this matter brought up publicly, Marlowe felt deeply ashamed and wished she could find a place to hide.

She forced a stiff smile and sat back on the sofa, not daring to speak again.

Orson, watching all this, had a look of mockery in his eyes.

Abigail looked at Caius. The man stood tall and lean, his refined and deep features exuding a certain coldness and sharpness, emanating a king-like authority that made the room's atmosphere serious.

Such a stern and cold person, yet he gave Abigail a strong sense of security.

Was this what it feels like to have a father to rely on?

It felt so good.

She used to think most fathers in the world were like David.

But seeing Caius now, she truly understood the difference between people.

No matter what Caius had done before, at this moment, he had already far surpassed David.

Thinking this, a faint smile unconsciously appeared on Abigail's lips.

Seeing his daughter smiling so carefree, Caius couldn't help but feel puzzled.

He thought, 'Why doesn't Abigail hold any grudges? People have bullied her, yet she's still smiling foolishly.'

He couldn't imagine how Abigail had survived all these years.

The more he thought about it, the more distressed he felt. Caius sighed heavily in his heart.

Forget it.

He would help her more in the future to prevent her from being bullied.

Caius's daughter should be a princess admired and envied by all, not someone who had to endure grievances.
