Chapter 67 Scheming for the Inheritance

In the evening, David got a call from a company shareholder.

He answered with a smile, "James, what's up? Is something wrong with the company?"

Everyone knew David was in the hospital, so they wouldn't bother him unless it was urgent.

"David, how much longer till you're back?" the shareholder, James, asked. "The company's performance is tanking, and the shareholders want answers."

David's smile vanished. "What's the rush? It's the off-season, so a dip is normal. You know this, James."

James shot back, "Easy for you to say. We're losing money. Your daughter has connections with the White family and is fine, but we have families to support!"

David's face darkened. "If my daughter marries into the White family, it'll be great for the company, right?"

These guys loved the profits but turned on him the moment things got tough.

James went quiet, knowing the stakes. The White family was the richest in Aramore, and their group was globally known. Even a small share of their resources would skyrocket DM Group's stock.

But the profits hadn't come in yet. Without money in hand, it was all just talk.

James said, "I get it, but things are urgent. Several partners' contracts are expiring, and they don't want to renew. What do we do?"

David sat up quickly. "What did you say?"

James was worried and explained, "Many partners say our profit share is too small. Some have already found new partners."

DM Group's stock had been dropping for years, always losing money. Plus, the recent scandal with Jessica and Roman had caused big fluctuations in the stock price.

Initially, it was just elite gossip, but it reached competitors. They bribed the media to report that DM Group's CEO's youngest daughter became a mistress for love, stealing her sister's boyfriend.

In the past few days, DM's stock price had been plummeting, almost hitting rock bottom. Shareholders were panicking, while David, the chairman, was calmly recovering in the hospital.

After hearing everything, David was so angry he almost passed out. His vision blurred, and he fainted.

Kayla quickly called for doctors and nurses. After more than two hours, David finally woke up.

He looked pale and weak, like he had aged ten years overnight.

Seeing him awake, Kayla rushed over. "David, you're awake? How do you feel? Any discomfort?"

Jessica added, "Dad, should I call the doctor?"

David shook his head and sighed. "Bring me my phone."

Kayla hesitated, worried he might faint again from the stress. The doctor had said he could be discharged tomorrow, but after the recent scare, she was nervous.

Seeing her hesitation, David frowned and repeated, "Bring me the phone."

Reluctantly, Kayla handed it over. David opened WhatsApp and saw countless unread messages, mostly from shareholders demanding answers. The sight made him dizzy again.

The clients who left were the best partners from Michelle's time. Despite DM's decline, he thought they'd stick around out of respect for her. He never expected them to be so ruthless.

David's face darkened. "Let them go. Once we get help from the White Group, they'll regret it."

Kayla thought for a moment. "David, for Jessica to marry into the White family, she still has to win over Grace. Time might be running out."

David's face fell. Kayla was right. He had tried to get Jessica to impress Grace, but she barely acknowledged her. The White family was controlled by Grace and Gregory. Without their approval, all efforts were pointless.

As Kayla saw him deep in thought, her eyes lit up. "I have an idea to get some quick money."

David looked at her, skeptical. "You can come up with that much money? From where?"

Kayla's smile stiffened. "Not me, but Abigail! Remember? Her mother left her an inheritance. Abigail doesn't need it, and it could solve our problem."

DM Group was founded by Abigail's mother, Michelle. When Michelle got gravely ill, David took over. But Michelle had a backup plan and made a will, leaving 15% of DM Group's shares and some real estate to Abigail.

They had tried to access this money early, as Abigail was a minor and they were her guardians. But Michelle's will stated the inheritance could only be accessed when Abigail was an adult and married. Kayla even tried bribing the lawyer managing the estate, but he refused.

David finally remembered this. That money could temporarily save DM Group. But since Abigail left home, he hadn't been able to contact her. Given her personality, she probably wouldn't willingly hand over the money. Plus, he had harshly told her never to come back. Calling her now would be embarrassed.
