Chapter 98 Make Abigail Pay

Elaine lost her cool the moment she heard Roman had brought Jessica to the White family.

She rushed over, fuming with anger.

Seeing Elaine's rage, Jessica clung to Roman, looking scared.

Roman quickly shielded her, frowning at Elaine. "Mom, I brought Jessica home."

"You’re actually defending her? I'm doing this for you," Elaine snapped, baffled by Roman's infatuation with Jessica.

Elaine could see through Jessica's innocent act. She knew Jessica was manipulative, playing the victim to gain sympathy.

Elaine despised women like Jessica. But ironically, her son Roman had fallen for her.

Roman stayed silent, holding Jessica protectively, making his stance clear.

Elaine, unable to sway Roman, turned to Jessica. She warned the latter, "Ms. Martin, you've tarnished Roman's reputation. How dare you show up here?"

Jessica's eyes welled up, pleading, "Elaine, Roman and I truly love each other. Please don't tear us apart."

Elaine, unimpressed, sneered, "Love? Love is cheap. Without you, Roman would have a better future. If you know what's good for you, you'd leave him."

Jessica, frustrated by Elaine's resistance, put on a sorrowful act, "Aunt Elaine, I'm sorry. I love Roman. I can't leave him."

Roman, moved by Jessica's words, held her hand tighter, more determined to marry her.

"Mom, please don't stop me. Without Jessica, I don't want to live," he said.

Elaine, shocked, took a step back. "Roman, after all these years, you say this to me?"

Roman felt guilty but couldn't abandon Jessica after all they'd been through.

Elaine took a deep breath, softened her tone, and said, "I've already chosen your future wife. She's the youngest daughter of the Smith family, just back from studying abroad. She's perfect for you. You are to meet her tomorrow."

Roman was stunned. "When did this happen? Why didn't I know?"

Elaine replied, "Just recently. I was going to tell you, but then you brought Jessica home."

Elaine had met the Smith daughter. She was beautiful, elegant, and gentle—the perfect daughter-in-law. Plus, marrying her would secure the Smith family's support for Roman in the White Group.

Roman's expressionface darkened. "I don't agree. Jessica is enough for me!"

Elaine clutched her chest, looking pained, almost collapsing.

Andy quickly helped her to the sofa and asked a servant to bring water.

Elaine, feeling betrayed, accused, "After all these years, this is how you repay me? Do you want to drive me to my grave?"

Roman, scared, let go of Jessica's hand and rushed to Elaine. "Mom, please don't be mad."

Elaine shook him off, fuming. "Don't touch me. Go live with Jessica. You don't care about my health anyway."

Roman sighed, "Mom, I'm sorry."

Elaine took the water from the servant, swallowed a blood pressure pill, and calmed down a bit. She told Roman, "You can only choose one: me or her."

"Mom, you're putting me in a tough spot," Roman said, torn between his mom and Jessica. He looked to Grace for help. "Grandma, please talk to my mom."

Grace, coldly, replied, "I can't persuade her. This is your family's issue. You handle it."

Grace thought Jessica was too cunning for Roman, who couldn't see through people's true intentions. But if Roman insisted on marrying her, no one could stop him.

Roman had no choice but to keep coaxing Elaine.

Elaine glared at Jessica and said to Roman, "If you still acknowledge me as your mother, break up with her."

"Mom!" Roman was shocked by Elaine's firmness, leaving no room for negotiation.

He fell silent, unsure of what to do.

Jessica, secretly furious, cursed Elaine in her heart. She had thought Grace would be the biggest obstacle, but now Elaine was in the way too.

She took a deep breath, forced a smile, and said, "Roman, since Aunt Elaine isn't feeling well, I'll come back another day."

Roman's eyes lit up, and he quickly agreed, "Okay, I'll take you home first."

He said goodbye to Elaine and hurried out with Jessica, as if escaping.

Watching them leave, Elaine's anger flared up again.

Meanwhile, Jessica returned to the Martin family and threw herself into Kayla's arms, sobbing.

Kayla, heartbroken, asked what had happened.

Jessica, still crying, recounted the events at the White family. "Mom and Dad, what should I do? There was only Grace, and now Elaine too. Can I still marry into the White family?"

Kayla looked at David, worried. "David, think of something. I can't bear to see our daughter suffer."

David, serious, thought carefully and said, "Elaine's birthday is in a few days. We'll prepare some expensive gifts and go apologize to her to ease the tension."

"Why should I apologize when I'm the one who was wronged?" Jessica pouted.

David glared at her. "Who told you to recklessly go to the White family? If you still want to marry Roman, listen to me."

Jessica quickly shut her mouth, but the resentment and grievance in her heart didn't disappear.

She thought that this was all Abigail's fault!

If it weren't for Abigail causing trouble, she wouldn't have rushed to the White family.

She had to find a way to make Abigail pay!
