Chapter 400 The Love Between Mom and Dad

Abigail opened her mouth, just about to say something, when she suddenly heard a gentle voice on the other end of the phone. "Who are you saying will regret?"

Caius placed the phone face down on the bed and gave a flattering smile. "Michelle, you're back?"

"Yes, who were you talking to? You sounded so angry," Michelle asked with a smile, holding a bowl of tonic.

Caius cleared his throat, took the phone from behind him, and explained, "It's Abigail. I was just discussing something with her."

Michelle frowned slightly. "Is someone bullying Abigail? Abigail, if someone is bullying you, don't hide it from us. Let Caius help you."

Hearing the familiar voice, Abigail's nose tingled as she missed Michelle once again. "Thank you, Mom. Don't worry, no one dares to bully me. If anyone tries to get close to you these days, don't give them the chance."

"Get close to me? Why?" Michelle was puzzled.

Over the years, due to her poor health, she had been living a reclusive life, rarely interacting with outsiders.

Abigail didn't dare to tell the truth and vaguely said, "There's a girl who's always against me. She knows I consider you my mom and wants to get close to you."

Michelle's frown slowly relaxed. "I see. As long as you're not being bullied, that's good. Don't worry, Mom will be careful."

After hanging up the phone, Abigail let out a deep sigh of relief.

Michelle picked up the tonic and brought it to Caius's lips. "Drink this tonic quickly. Honestly, you went to the mountaintop in the middle of the night to pick some flowers without even wearing warm clothes."

She thought, 'Just like a child.'

Caius smiled and swallowed the bitter tonic. "I noticed you haven't been in high spirits lately. Since you liked those flowers, I wanted to cheer you up."

Looking into Caius's serious and focused eyes, Michelle felt a warmth in her heart. "Alright, I understand. Thank you."

In the afternoon, Caius fell asleep, and his fever gradually subsided.

Michelle gave a few simple instructions to the bodyguards outside and planned to go to the pharmacy to buy some things.

Renowned for their medical expertise, the Worthington family often cared for Michelle during her frequent illnesses. To pass the time, she immersed herself in Caius's medical books, swiftly absorbing their contents. When puzzled, Caius patiently explained and guided her in crafting remedies.

Noticing that Abigail might get injured and fear pain, Michelle decided to develop a painkiller to ensure her well-being, even in her absence.

The driver took her to a pharmacy, and neither of them noticed a car following them at a distance.

As Michelle exited the pharmacy with the medicine, someone suddenly bumped into her. She steadied herself against the wall as the other person collapsed, looking faint. Michelle quickly knelt to check on her, but she began to wake up just as Michelle reached for her wrist.

Jessica opened her eyes, looking around in confusion. "Where am I? What happened to me?"

Michelle helped her up and asked with concern, "Are you alright?"

Jessica's gaze fell on Michelle, her long eyelashes trembling as if in fear. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to bump into you. I was just feeling unwell and in a hurry."

"Do you need me to take you to the hospital?"

"No, I just need to rest here for a bit. But I do need to go back to the hotel to get something." Jessica glanced at Michelle, hesitating.

Michelle understood her hesitation and quickly said, "Get in the car. I'll take you there."

Jessica's eyes lit up, suppressing her excitement. "Thank you. You're very kind."

Michelle shook her head with a smile and helped her into the car.

Once in the car, Jessica gave the address and then started chatting with Michelle, "You look a lot like someone I know. It seems we have a real connection."

"Really?" Michelle was a bit distracted.

She wondered if Caius had woken up, as she had been out for a while. If he didn't see her, he'd likely start looking for her. The downside of marriage was his clinginess.

Jessica didn't notice Michelle's lack of interest and continued, "Yes, but you can't be that person because the person I know is from Aramore and has been dead for many years."

As she spoke, she observed Michelle's reaction.

She expected Michelle to show guilt or panic upon hearing "Aramore," but Michelle showed no reaction, only saying, "Really? That's quite a coincidence. My daughter is over there now."

"Daughter? When did Caius have a daughter?" The words slipped out without thinking.

The car fell silent.

Michelle turned to look at her, and the driver suddenly stepped on the gas, turning his head.

Jessica realized she had made a mistake and quickly covered her mouth, breaking into a cold sweat.

Michelle looked at her calmly and asked, "You know Caius? And you know if he has children? Who are you?"

"I was just talking nonsense! I saw you on the news before. They introduced you as Caius's wife."

"Really?" Michelle crossed her arms, tapping her fingers on her arm, unsure if she believed her.

Jessica, afraid of being kicked out of the car, quickly explained, "Mrs. Worthington, I didn't mean any harm. You just look so much like my friend's mom, but her mom passed away. I felt you might be her, so I came to find you."

"What's your friend's name?" Michelle asked.

Jessica's eyes lit up as she mentioned Abigail's name. Michelle was now certain—this was the girl Abigail often spoke of as her rival. These young girls were quite cunning. Knowing Abigail saw her as a mother figure, Jessica had found a reason to visit.

Michelle's gaze towards Jessica became wary. "I don't know any Abigail. Get out of the car."

Jessica opened her mouth, wanting to say more, but met Michelle's cold eyes.

The words stuck in her throat, and she got out of the car awkwardly.

As soon as the door closed, the car sped away, leaving only the exhaust behind.
