Chapter 490 Tom committed suicide!
On the other side, Gregory returned home and saw that Abigail was already asleep. He quietly backed out and went to the wine cellar to find a bottle of red wine to drink.
Just as he poured the wine, his phone rang.
Gregory glanced at the caller ID and coldly threatened, "You better have a good reason for calling."
Leo was silent for a moment before speaking, "Mr. White, something bad happened. The police just called; Tom committed suicide."
"What?" Gregory's grip on the phone tightened slightly, disbelief evident in his voice.
He swallowed hard and finally found his voice after a long pause. "What happened?"
Leo replied truthfully, "I'm not sure about all the details. After you left, he seemed off, but no one thought much of it. Later that night, someone found blood on the floor. By the time they found him, it was too late. He left a letter for you and Mrs. White, and I'm on my way to the villa to deliver it."
Hanging up the phone in silence, Gregory stood on the balcony and suddenly felt the urge to smoke. After searching the house, he realized he couldn't find a single cigarette and remembered he had quit smoking after Abigail got pregnant.
Taking a deep breath to suppress his emotions, Gregory returned to the balcony to feel the cold winter wind stinging his face, making him more clear-headed. He had initially believed that presenting enough evidence to Tom would dispel his hatred and lead to proper repentance.
After a few years, with his skills and knowledge, he could make a career anywhere.
But he never expected Tom to choose to end his life by suicide.
He had indeed wanted Tom to face the consequences of his actions, but he had never wanted him dead.
Soon, Leo delivered the letter. As Gregory took it, he heard footsteps on the stairs and turned to see Abigail descending, looking at them in confusion.
She asked, "Gregory, why are you still up so late? And why is Leo here? Is he delivering documents again?"
Leo didn't know how to respond for a moment and glanced at Gregory.
Gregory discreetly slipped the letter into his suit pocket and turned to smile at Abigail. "It's nothing, dear. Why are you awake?"
"I was thirsty and came down for some water. It's almost 2 AM; why did you make Leo come over? Can't it wait until tomorrow?" Abigail looked suspiciously at Gregory and Leo, feeling like they were hiding something from her.
Gregory quickly nodded in agreement. "I know, I'll let Leo go rest now. You should go back to sleep too, dear."
"Okay." Abigail nodded and went to the kitchen to get some water.
Gregory quickly signaled Leo to leave, who nodded quietly before departing.
By the time Abigail finished her water and came out of the kitchen, Leo was gone. Gregory approached her, put his arm around her shoulder, and led her upstairs. "Let's go to bed."
Abigail looked at him, her expression hesitant. "Gregory, are you hiding something from me? Why are you acting so strange tonight?"
"Am I?" Gregory forced a calm smile and gave Abigail a light kiss on the lips. "Alright, stop overthinking. Let's go to sleep; it's very late."
Seeing that Gregory didn't want to talk, Abigail didn't press further. Under his gentle coaxing, she soon fell asleep.
The next morning, Abigail woke up to find Gregory's spot already empty. She stretched lazily before heading to the bathroom to freshen up.
As she came out of the bathroom, she saw the maid tidying up the room and picking up the clothes from the previous day.
Abigail didn't think much of it until the maid suddenly exclaimed, "Mr. White left something in here? I almost washed it."
Abigail paused and walked over slowly. "What is it? Just give it to me."
The maid handed her a letter she had found. Recognizing the handwriting, Abigail's expression froze—Tom had written this?
She suddenly recalled Gregory's unusual behavior last night, feeling even more puzzled. She immediately went to the study to find Gregory.
He was having a morning meeting with his employees when the door was suddenly pushed open a crack, and Abigail's head peeked in.
Gregory's expression softened instantly, and he waved her over.
Abigail walked in but didn't interrupt, quietly sitting on the sofa.
After a while, Gregory announced the end of the meeting, turned off the computer, and walked over to her. "What's up? Why didn't you say anything earlier?"
Abigail said, "I didn't want to disturb you; your work is important."
Gregory chuckled. "Nothing is more important than you."
