Chapter 435 Who Would Complain About Having Too Much Money!

Hearing Gregory was arriving, Michelle had the chef prepare a full spread.

At the dining table, Gregory was focused on offering food to Abigail. Michelle smiled with satisfaction and remarked to him, "Gregory, it must have been exhausting for you, traveling back and forth all this time."

Gregory glanced at Abigail, his sharp eyes filled with warmth. "It's not difficult; it's what I want to do."

Caius gave him an approving look and added, "After some time, once Abigail has learned the basics of pharmacology, she can bring the medical books home to continue."

Abigail's expression brightened. "Really? That's wonderful!"

Caius gave her a sidelong glance and said irritably, "Why are you so thrilled? It's as though I'm making you stay."

Seeing his irritation, Abigail quickly gave a charming and obedient smile. "How could that be? I stayed here of my own free will. I'm delighted to learn medicine with Dad."

Caius, satisfied with her response, used his chopsticks to place some beef into her bowl. "Good, as long as you realize that."

Abigail and Gregory exchanged a glance, a faint flicker of amusement in their eyes.

After dinner, Emrys returned from outside with a stiff expression, not even acknowledging the younger group. He walked straight toward Caius. "Caius, I need a word with you."

Caius observed him and stood up, gesturing toward the study. "Let's go."

Emrys's gaze briefly lingered on Abigail before he hurriedly followed.

Abigail, ever perceptive, caught a fleeting glint of malice in Emrys's eyes. A warm, firm hand clasped her wrist, and she turned to Gregory's steady gaze, instantly reassured. She smiled faintly, signaling she was fine. Having faced many challenges, she felt ready for anything.

Emrys followed Caius inside. As soon as the door closed, he couldn't hold back. "Caius, why are you handing over the Worthington family's medical legacy to Abigail?"

Caius's eyes narrowed slightly, and he said coldly, "Emrys, mind your words. She is my daughter, your niece."

Emrys sneered, a glint of contempt flashing in his eyes. "Niece? She doesn't even share our family name. What are you thinking? If the Worthington family's knowledge leaks, do you understand the repercussions?"

Faced with his brother's accusations, Caius's expression remained indifferent.

He gazed quietly at Emrys and emphasized each word. "I'll repeat it one last time: Abigail is my daughter, not an outsider."

Emrys said, "But—"

Caius interrupted, "Thank you for the reminder. It's been too long; it's time to change Abigail's surname to avoid unnecessary talk."

The insinuating tone seemed directed at Emrys himself.

Emrys's face twisted with frustration, and he responded coldly, "Fine, even if she's officially part of the Worthington family, she's still a woman and will eventually marry Gregory. If she learns our medical knowledge, it'll benefit the White family!"

Caius asked indifferently, "Aside from her, can you suggest a more suitable candidate? You? Or Orson?"

Faced with Caius's sarcasm, Emrys suddenly faltered, unable to speak.

He stood rigidly, feeling as though all his intentions had been laid bare by Caius's gaze.

Eventually, he stammered, "That's not what I meant. But passing down the Worthington legacy to Abigail won't convince everyone."

Caius crossed his legs and leaned lazily against the sofa, his eyes narrowing. "Then tell me, in your view, who is more qualified?"

Emrys, seizing the opportunity, quickly suggested, "I think it should be an open competition. When the kids were young, they found medicine boring. But now, as adults, they might see its value."

Caius lowered his gaze thoughtfully and nodded slightly. "Okay."

The following day, Caius summoned everyone, even recalling Quinn.

He pointed to a bookshelf crammed with medical texts. "From today, I'll teach you all I know. Study diligently."

Orson, Bruce, and Mireille all appeared displeased.

Emrys nudged Orson and urged, "Work hard. The future heir of the Worthington family will be you."

This was an opportunity Emrys had fought fiercely to obtain.

Orson pouted. "Dad, give me a break. I'm not into medicine or managing the company. Why don't you do it yourself?"

Emrys's expression froze. His lack of talent in medicine barred him from inheriting the family legacy, a fact that continually gnawed at him. Why did the family rules insist that only a medically proficient heir could lead? Without this stipulation, he would have taken over long ago. Why had they made things so needlessly difficult?

Orson shook his head vehemently, his entire posture radiating resistance. "Dad, I think Abigail is already doing great. If not her, then let Quinn take over. Don't force me."

Emrys answered, "No. You must learn whether you like it or not."

Ultimately, Orson begrudgingly picked up a medical book and began skimming through it.

A week later, Caius held a formal review and a fair competition. Predictably, Quinn won. Abigail, still a beginner, struggled with the complexities, while Quinn's strong medical foundation, despite his psychology major, ensured his victory.

Caius surveyed Quinn and Abigail, nodding approvingly. "Not bad. Continue like this."

Abigail rested her chin on her hand and teased Quinn. "Quinn, why not take over the family business? I think I'm more suited to a relaxed lifestyle."

Quinn answered, "That's not happening."

Abigail snorted lightly, seeing nothing wrong with her suggestion. "Running the family business is your job. I'll speak to Dad and have you handle the hard work while I enjoy myself."

Quinn chuckled at her remark. "Isn't Gregory's wealth enough for you? Even if you never lift a finger, you'll live comfortably."

Gregory's family wealth wasn't insignificant. Though it didn't surpass the Worthington family, it was comparable.

Abigail grinned cheekily. "Who would complain about having too much money?"

Quinn was momentarily taken aback, then laughed softly, realizing she had a point.
