Chapter 19 Evidence
"You're just lying!"
Watching her flee like there was no tomorrow, Tricia chuckled helplessly and muttered under her breath.
It seems like Gregory won't work.
Winning Abigail's heart took a lot of work.
Everyone thought that Abigail's soft and obedient personality would make her easy to handle.
But little did anyone know that all her gentleness was reserved only for those she trusted and cared about the most.
If a stranger tried to get close, she would tightly wrap herself up, guarding her innermost thoughts.
So Tricia was very curious about when Gregory would be able to break through Abigail's defenses.
She was really looking forward to that day.
The store clerk, seeing Tricia standing in front of the mirror, lost in thought, thought she was dissatisfied with the clothes and immediately approached her to inquire.
"Miss, is there something wrong with the clothes?"
Tricia snapped out of her trance, smiled, and shook her head at the clerk. "No, it's fine. Find me a shawl to go with it."
"Alright, please wait a moment." The clerk nodded and brought over a shawl in the same color scheme.
Tricia tried it on and found that it looked good, so she asked the clerk to help her pack it up.
After paying for the clothes at the cash register, Abigail received the shopping bag and left with Tricia. She had been glued to her phone, seemingly engrossed in a chat with someone. A faint smile on her lips indicated her deep involvement in the conversation.
Tricia puckered her lips and pinched Abigail's delicate face, saying, "You heartless girl! I kindly came here to accompany you shopping, and yet you're busy chatting away."
Abigail, lost in her thoughts, suddenly felt her face pinched and was taken aback. "Didn't you invite me to come out? Shouldn't I be the one accompanying you?" she asked.
Tricia was speechless. That was the case. She nervously touched her nose and said, "It's because you were constantly staring at your phone, ignoring me."
Seeing that Tricia was jealous, Abigail promptly closed her phone and hugged Tricia's arm, gently shaking it. "Okay, okay, from now on, all my attention will be on you."
Tricia tilted her chin and made a slight hum, saying, "That's more like it."
She wasn't really angry, to begin with, and being soothed by Abigail made her mood instantly better.
She pointed to a nearby storefront and said to Abigail, "I saw this store online, and they say the food there is pretty good. Do you want to give it a try?"
Abigail followed her gaze and noticed that it was a newly opened restaurant in the mall.
It was just about lunchtime, and her stomach was already growling, so she immediately nodded in agreement.
Excitedly, Tricia pulled her inside, and they found a seat with the help of a waiter.
"The decor of this place looks good, but I wonder if the food is as delicious as they claim online," Tricia remarked.
Abigail smiled. Tricia loved food and often made video reviews and makeup tutorials for her online fans.
Every time the dishes arrived, the first thing she did was take out her phone to film.
According to her, food is the most therapeutic thing in the world. No matter how many worries you have, once you taste good food, they all melt away.
When all the dishes were served, Tricia finally put away her phone and prepared to eat.
"Abigail, when are you planning to call off the engagement? Do you want me to accompany you?" she asked, her eyes filled with concern.
Facing Tricia's worried gaze, Abigail felt a warm feeling in her heart and shook her head slowly. "I can handle it on my own. Roman's grandmother is a reasonable person; she won't take Roman's side."
"I know she's good to you, but Roman is still her grandson. And if this matter gets out, it won't be good for the White family's reputation," Tricia said, her expression serious.
Tricia came from a privileged background that was different from Abigail. Influenced by her family since childhood, she never believed that genuine feelings could exist in the face of interests.
Abigail pondered for a moment and then smiled lightly, saying, "It's okay. Let's take it step by step." In truth, she didn't have much confidence either, but she was determined to end this marriage. She could accept that Roman didn't love her and that they would have a mutually respectful marriage in the future, but she couldn't tolerate betrayal and deception. So, she would definitely get a divorce, no matter the cost.
How could Tricia not see the confusion and helplessness in Abigail's eyes? She got up, walked over to Abigail, and hugged her tightly, saying, "If you ever have nowhere to go, my door will always be open for you, Abigail. You're not alone." Feeling the warmth of Tricia's embrace, Abigail was deeply moved. She hugged Tricia back and assured her, "Don't worry, if that day ever comes, I won't hold back." Tricia couldn't help but smile at her words and said, "Actually, you don't have to be too pessimistic. Isn't there Mr. White? He definitely won't ignore you."
"I hope so," Abigail sighed quietly. In reality, she knew very little about Gregory. As the rumors suggested, he was low-key and mysterious, and even though he could occasionally be gentle, it couldn't hide the indifference in his bones. He was more like a beast lurking in the jungle, ready to pounce on its prey at any moment. So, she needed to find out if she could rely on him or trust him.
After finishing their lunch and preparing to pay the bill, Abigail suddenly heard a mocking voice behind her. "Oh, isn't this Abigail? Weren't you supposed to have run away from home? How come you have money to eat at such a high-end restaurant?" Abigail's hand holding the phone paused, and she slowly turned around to see Jessica, who was holding Roman's arm, standing behind them.
Roman frowned when he saw Abigail and couldn't help but ask, "What are you doing here?" Before Abigail could respond, Tricia took a step forward to stand in front of her and said, "Is this restaurant owned by your family? If you can come, why can't we?" She had always disliked Roman from the start. The White family had proposed this marriage in the first place, and Roman had made promises at Michelle's bedside that he would take good care of Abigail. But what was the result? Less than a month later, after meeting Jessica, all those promises meant nothing. Roman was truly ungrateful.
Roman furrowed his brows and looked at Abigail disapprovingly, saying, "Abigail, I heard you ran away from home and had a fight with your dad?"
Abigail couldn't help but sneer, her eyes filled with strong mockery. "What does it have to do with you? Who are you to have the right to control me? As for why I ran away from home, you should ask the person next to you, she knows better than anyone, right?"
This was the first time she had seen Roman since the day of the hotel affair. He stood there, but she couldn't help but feel disgusted. With a casual glance, she quickly averted her gaze.
