Chapter 53 You Deserve It

Roman didn't pay attention to the second half of the sentence at all. He only knew that Grace had finally agreed to cancel his engagement with Abigail.

Excited, he lifted his head and firmly held Grace's hand, asking, "Really? Granny, I knew you loved me the most!"

Seeing how agitated he was, Grace shook her head slowly.

She said, "Abigail personally approached me a few days ago to propose canceling the engagement. I agreed then, but I couldn't reach you on your phone."

Roman was somewhat surprised. Abigail actually took the initiative to propose canceling their engagement.

So she didn't deceive him. He misunderstood her.

Previously, he always thought that Abigail wouldn't agree to cancel their engagement because she loved him.

But he didn't expect that she had already initiated the breakup without his knowledge.
Remembering the time when he insulted Abigail out of anger, Roman felt a burning sensation on his face, as if he had been slapped hard in the face.

But his shame was quickly overshadowed by excitement.

The engagement that had bound him for over a decade was finally over. From now on, no one will restrict his relationship with Jessica.

Roman couldn't wait to tell Jessica the good news and share the joy with her.

For all these years, he and Jessica had to hide their relationship; even when they did intimate things, they had to do it secretly. So he felt particularly sorry for Jessica.

He looked at Grace, his eyes filled with hope, "Grandma, Jessica has wanted to come and visit you for a long time, but she was always afraid because of Abigail. But now..."

Jessica was an illegitimate daughter, so she had never been welcomed in the high society circles, and even Abigail isolated and bullied her.

Roman felt very sad about this, but there was nothing he could do.

Now everything was fine. He finally broke off the engagement and could protect Jessica without any worries.

His Jessica was so gentle, kind, and polite that he was convinced that once Grace met her, she would definitely like her.

Grace's expression turned displeased, her gaze icy. "I only agreed to let you break off the engagement with Abigail, but I never said I agreed to you dating Jessica."

She had seen Jessica at a banquet before and immediately knew she was a cunning and ambitious woman.

Even if a person was very good at disguising themselves, their eyes could never lie.

Jessica was not a pure and kind girl at all. Grace still remembered the calculations and ambitions that occasionally flashed in her eyes.

Such a woman was not suitable to marry into the White family.

Only Roman would cherish Jessica like a treasure.

If Jessica really married Roman, the White family would surely become chaotic.

Grace was getting old, and she didn't want to deal with these family matters every day, to the point where she couldn't peacefully enjoy her later years.

Hearing Grace's reply, Roman's smile froze, finding it hard to believe.

"Grandma, why are you opposing Jessica? She's a good girl, and you'll definitely like her!"

Grace shook her head and sneered, "If she really is a good girl, how could she have a relationship with you before she was even of legal age?"

Roman was suddenly stunned; he hadn't expected Grace to know about this intimate matter so clearly.

He became nervous and asked, "Grandma, when did you find out?"
"Is this important? Since you've done these things, you should know that they will be exposed sooner or later," Roman subconsciously wanted to argue.

"Grandmother, actually, it's not as you think. It's not all Jessica's fault. It was my initiative!" He didn't want Grace to misunderstand Jessica, so he had to take the responsibility.

Grace waved her hand and said, "You don't need to tell me these things; I'm not interested. Do you have something else to tell me? If not, you can leave. I need rest."

Seeing that Grace was tired, Roman silently gave up on arguing.

"Grandmother, I like Jessica, I really like her, and I want to marry her. I hope you can agree," Roman nodded heavily. "Yes, she is important to me."

Grace fell silent and didn't speak for a long time.

Roman pleaded, "Grandmother, I rarely beg you from childhood to adulthood, but I want to ask you to agree to this."

"Don't mention this matter again. I'm afraid I have to disagree," Grace said firmly.

Roman opened his mouth and wanted to say something else, but after seeing Grace's cold and indifferent expression, he silently closed his mouth.

He was afraid of causing Grace's disgust, so he dared not continue.

After a moment of silence, he changed the subject, "Grandmother, I don't want to make you angry. Let's not talk about Jessica, but I have something else."

Grace pinched her forehead and sighed helplessly, "Speak."

Roman hesitated for a moment, then revealed that Abigail wanted him to repay the money and write an IOU.

He originally thought Grace would sympathize with him, but she said only one sentence in the end: "You deserve it! It's lucky for you that she let you repay the money."

"Grandmother, am I still your grandson?" Roman asked.

Grace glanced at him. If he weren't her grandson, she wouldn't bother with him.

She suddenly remembered something and advised, "You should have repaid her the money. That's what you owe Abigail. Besides, don't bother Abigail during this period. She doesn't want to see you. If you want to repay the money, give it to Gregory."

Roman didn't understand, "Why? When did their relationship become so good?"

When he called Gregory this morning, Gregory seemed to say the same thing. He found it strange at the time.

Gregory and Abigail had no connection in the past, but now he's not only upholding her but also going to school to support her.

Gregory even demanded that Roman hand the money over to him, which seemed illogical.

However, Grace's next words directly stunned him on the spot.
Grace said, "Oh, I forgot to tell you, while you weren't home, Gregory got married, and his wife happens to be your ex-fiancée, Abigail."

This sentence was like a thunderbolt exploding in Roman's ear.

Roman almost thought he was hearing things. He widened his eyes in disbelief.

Who got married?

Gregory got married to who?

He knew every word, but why couldn't he understand when they were put together?

Roman's mind went blank, and it took him a while to regain his voice.

His voice trembled as he stared at Grace without blinking and asked again, "Grandma, what did you just say?"

"I said Abigail is now Gregory's wife, and if you dare to bully her again, Gregory will be the first one to teach you a lesson."
