Chapter 20 Shocking Evidence
Roman, on the other hand, looked pensive as he glanced at Jessica with confusion. Jessica had only told him that a few days ago, Abigail had made David angry and had run away from home. David was still in the hospital room, suffering from a heart attack caused by anger. So, Roman instinctively assumed it was Abigail's fault and didn't ask much further.
Now, being questioned by Abigail like this, he felt a hint of doubt. Faced with Roman's questioning gaze, Jessica felt guilty and hastily explained, "Roman, I just didn't want to ruin Abigail's image in your mind. After all, making Dad sick with anger is not something to be proud of."
Upon hearing this, Roman nodded gently. "Yeah, you did the right thing, Jessica. You're the only one in this world who is so gentle and kind, always thinking of others."
Hearing Roman's praise, Jessica blushed and playfully scolded him, "Roman, I feel embarrassed being praised by you in front of so many people."
Tricia and Abigail remained silent, standing quietly aside, watching their performance.
Finally, Tricia couldn't take it anymore and sneered, "How hypocritical."
Jessica's face darkened. "Who are you talking about?"
"I'm talking about you. Are there any other people here? Abigail said it herself; she was willing to break the engagement, but Roman didn't want to. Who should we blame? Enjoying the benefits without paying the price, isn't that hypocrisy?"
Jessica looked flustered and glanced at Roman, pretending to be wronged. "Ms. Dixon, even though you are Abigail's good friend and want to stand up for her, you can't accuse me unfairly, can you?"
As soon as Roman saw her expression of grievance, he couldn't bear it. He hugged Jessica's shoulder and gazed at Tricia and Abigail with cold eyes. "If you have the guts, come after me. Bullying Jessica, what skill is that?"
"Do you think you can get away with it? Bastard, should I release that recording for everyone to hear?"
Tricia crossed her arms and fearlessly met Roman's gaze. Reminded by her, Roman suddenly remembered the recording that went crazy in yesterday's group chat, and his face darkened. He looked at Abigail and said, in a cold and commanding tone, "Abigail, delete all those recordings in the group chat."
Abigail looked up at him, her gaze unwavering. "What if I say no?"
Roman met her eyes and couldn't help but pause for a moment. It seemed like the first time Abigail had ever looked at him without any sadness or happiness in her eyes. Previously, she always had a smile on her face, her sparkling eyes filled with trust and dependency on him. But that day at the hotel, there was a deep disappointment in her gaze. And this time, it was different. It felt like she had truly let go of him, or maybe she didn't care anymore.
Roman was startled by his thoughts. He furrowed his brow, forcefully pushing down the uncomfortable feeling in his heart, and said in a low voice, "I know you're resentful towards me, but that recording could damage the White family's reputation. Don't you care about Grandma's well-being?"
Abigail suddenly burst into laughter. She looked Roman up and down, seemingly lost in thought, and said, "I didn't realize before, but you're shameless, aren't you? If you truly cared about the White family's reputation, you shouldn't have cheated. If you did, you should be prepared to face the consequences."
As Roman's face grew darker, Abigail continued, "Were you planning to keep it hidden if I hadn't found out? I haven't even asked you for compensation for my wasted youth, so who are you to demand that I delete the recording?"
Faced with her accusatory gaze, Roman lowered his head guiltily. He hurriedly defended himself, "I didn't want to, but Grandma said I had to marry you."
"But your grandma also said the engagement could be canceled if I didn't want to go through with it. Did you ever ask me?" Abigail didn't want to give him any face and exposed him publicly. "Plain and simple, you want to have both, Roman. You make me sick."
As more people gathered around them, Jessica secretly clenched her teeth, wishing she could hide her face to avoid being recognized. Coming here for a meal was a mistake. She shouldn't have provoked this despicable woman, Abigail! It was all her fault. Why did she have to bring up all this? She could clearly feel the strange gazes of the onlookers, filled with disdain and ridicule as if they were looking at a third party who meddled in other people's relationships. But what did she do wrong? In matters of love, the one who isn't loved is the true third party! Roman loved her, so she was the one who should marry him. Abigail was taking advantage of Grace's favoritism and trying to occupy this marriage.
Roman had never been surrounded by so many people before, and a hint of embarrassment flashed across his handsome face. He angrily shouted, "Abigail, are you done causing a scene? I admit that I did something wrong, but does that mean you're blameless? You never understood how to win a man's heart. Did you expect me to remain faithful to only one woman for the rest of my life?"
Compared to gentle and understanding Jessica, anyone could see how to choose when it came to men.
