Chapter 29 Jewelry
Abigail paused for a moment, then realized that they hadn't told Grace about her marriage to Gregory yet.
She blinked awkwardly and instinctively looked at Gregory.
Coincidentally, Gregory was looking at her, raising an eyebrow as if to hear how she would respond.
Abigail shifted her gaze away, contemplating how to approach the subject.
Suddenly, Grace let out a regretful sigh and said, "If Gregory weren't already married, I would have had him marry you."
Early in the morning today, Grace's old clients called to congratulate Gregory on his marriage and asked when they would be having the wedding.
It was then that she found out that Gregory had secretly gotten married.
He didn't even inform her! She was furious!
Abigail and Gregory exchanged a glance, her cheeks turning red.
Gregory's expression also became somewhat unnatural. He had been worried that Grace would object to his marrying Abigail, but now his worries seemed completely unnecessary.
Grace didn't notice their change in expression and curiously asked Gregory, "So, where's your wife? Why didn't she come with you?"
Gregory straightened up slightly, his gaze falling on Abigail, and he said with a meaningful tone, "My wife is right here."
Grace didn't immediately understand the meaning behind his words. She looked around the living room.
There were only the four of them in the living room; Andy and the servants had all left, so the only person here was...
Grace's gaze finally landed on Abigail, and she was shocked into silence.
Abigail's cheeks were as red as a ripe shrimp, and she shyly nodded. "Grace, I'm the one who married Gregory. I didn't mean to hide it from you; I was just afraid of making you mad."
Grace was indeed angry, but she was furious at Gregory.
She turned to Gregory and said sternly, "Go to the study. I have something to ask you."
Abigail was startled by her reaction, her face turning pale, and she anxiously clenched her hands.
Gregory, on the other hand, remained calm as if he had anticipated Grace's reaction.
He glanced at Grace and said in a light tone, "Lower your voice. You scared my wife."
With that, he walked directly to Abigail and enveloped her clenched little hand in his large palm, comforting her in a gentle voice, "Don't be afraid. I'm here."
"It's all your fault. Go upstairs now!"
Grace took a deep breath, forcibly suppressing her anger, and walked towards the upstairs.
Abigail looked at Gregory with worry, wanting to explain something to Grace. But Gregory shook his head to reassure her, saying, "My mom is just mad at me. Don't worry, I'll be back soon." He gently touched Abigail's cheek before getting up and heading up the stairs.
In the second-floor study, Gregory grabbed a glass of water and handed it to Grace, saying, "Mom, calm down."
Grace was angry and didn't want to engage with him, but she had a lot of questions to ask, so she reluctantly took the glass.
She took a sip of water and calmed herself before coldly asking, "So, what's going on?"
Sitting across from Grace, Gregory spoke seriously, "I like Abigail. I've liked her for a long time."
"You!" Grace had finally calmed down, but seeing his attitude, she instantly got angry again. She coldly questioned him, "Do you know that Abigail is your nephew's fiancee?"
Gregory looked at her with sincerity in his eyes and nodded, "Yes, I know. I stayed away from her before because she was engaged. But Roman doesn't appreciate her; he's not worthy of Abigail."
Grace laughed mockingly and asked him, "He's not worthy of Abigail, but do you think you are?"
"At least I'm better than Roman. I will only have one woman in my life, Abigail. If you don't agree, I will never marry."
"Are you threatening me now?"
"No, I'm just stating facts."
Grace stared at him for a while, then sighed deeply, "You are infatuated. I never expected the White family to have an infatuated man."
Gregory knew she was reminded of her heartbreak from her younger days, so he softened his tone and said, "I inherited your good genes. It has nothing to do with the White family."
"Oh, so you're trying to cheer me up? That'll be the day!"
Grace glanced at him, and her anger dissipated. The old Gregory would never explain himself; he would just let her be angry. Grace realized that Abigail held a high position in this guy's heart.
Gregory chuckled lightly and continued, "The one who should have been engaged to Abigail is me. Abigail should have been my fiancee from the beginning. Now, I'm just taking back what's always been mine."
Grace was reminded of the past, and her smile slowly faded. She asked Gregory, "Are you serious?"
"Yes," Gregory replied with honesty, allowing Grace to scrutinize him.
In his entire life, he would never marry another woman except for Abigail!
Grace felt helpless. Gregory was her son, and she knew him too well. Over the years, she had put a lot of thought into his marriage, but no matter which girl she introduced him to, he wouldn't pay attention. Even if he agreed to go on a date, he would always end up making the girl cry.
Grace originally thought Gregory disliked women, but now she realizes that he didn't dislike them; he was just too devoted.
"I'm not a traditional person. I really like Abigail, but she was previously engaged to your nephew. If this gets out, it won't be good for your reputation. Can you handle the consequences?" Grace didn't want to repeat what happened with Roman, so she had to ask him some things in advance.
To her surprise, Gregory nodded without hesitation. "Of course."
Grace snorted. "Indeed, you don't have a good reputation now, so you don't care about it being damaged."
She knew very well that Gregory didn't have a sexual interest in women, and everyone outside was spreading rumors about his sex life. The most outrageous rumor even claimed that he liked men.
She probably didn't need to worry about him liking men, but...
Grace frowned and lowered her voice. "Gregory, tell me, did you marry Abigail because you have a problem in that aspect, so you intentionally married her as a cover?"
Gregory rubbed his temple helplessly, his eyelid twitching. "You shouldn't believe those rumors."
Grace retorted, "It's because you never tell me anything, so I can only guess."
Gregory chuckled lightly and fell silent.
Regardless, Grace could find reasons for herself.
Getting the answer she wanted, Grace felt much better. She picked up her glass, elegantly took a sip of water, and looked at Gregory again. "One last question: you didn't force or manipulate Abigail, did you?"
Gregory paused for a moment before speaking lightly, "I just used a little trick."
