Chapter 438 Got Tricked

Abigail noticed the confusion and frustration on Emrys's face and maintained her feigned innocence. "Yes, is there an issue? After all, you were the one who suggested we juniors compete, so really, we should thank you for that."

Emrys glared at her, his eyes flashing with anger. "You mean it, right?"

The thought of having willingly handed over shares and property now made Emrys feel a deep, unbearable regret.

But Abigail's expression remained pure, as if she truly couldn't understand his accusation.

She said, "That's not fair. Didn't you give me the shares and property willingly? I kept my promise to you, didn't I?"

Though her words were technically true, there was something in her tone that felt deliberately off.

Emrys clenched his fists, eyes shut tight. He felt utterly played. Not only had he lost significant assets, but his plan to oust Abigail and elevate himself—or even position Orson—had backfired completely.

But now that he hadn't secured the inheritance, who could have been satisfied?

Meanwhile, Abigail remained unfazed. What she had gained was hers, and she had no intention of letting it go.

After all, the deal had been consensual. No one had forced Emrys to agree to her terms.

Seeing his grim expression, Abigail turned to Gregory and said brightly, "Alright, it's about time for our flight. We gotta go. See ya!"

Before they left, Abigail leaned close to Quinn, whispering with a grin, "My happiness depends on you now. Don't mess it up!"

Quinn sighed, a trace of helplessness flashing in his eyes.

Meanwhile, Caius suddenly spoke, his voice heavy with authority, "Since this is Abigail's decision, I'll give you some extra time. Finish what you're doing, and then come back to assist me."

Quinn turned to him, puzzled. "Dad. Why me?"

Caius's gaze sharpened. "Do you really think anyone else in this family can shoulder the Worthington legacy?"

Quinn hesitated, his brows furrowing. "And why do you think I can?"

“You? Your abilities are still far from adequate. In a while, you'll come directly to the company with me and learn from me. I don't care what you think of me, but I have only one condition.” Caius's gaze suddenly turned a bit profound.

Quinn studied his father's face and saw a depth he couldn't quite decipher. "What?"

Caius's eyes darkened, his tone growing more somber. "Protect Abigail, no matter what happens."

Quinn suddenly felt as if something had hit him hard in the chest. He nodded solemnly. "Alright, I will."

Everything he had now was given by Abigail, and he would spend the rest of his life protecting her.

After getting Quinn's promise, Caius slowly collected himself, raised his hand, and patted Quinn on the shoulder. "Alright, take your time. I have something to discuss with Emrys."

Quinn hesitated for a moment. For some reason, he felt there was something in Caius's eyes that he couldn't quite understand. But he wisely chose not to ask further and turned to leave.

Soon, only Caius and Emrys were left in the living room.

Caius sat on the sofa, legs crossed, his gaze dark and unreadable, lost in thought but not speaking.

Emrys suddenly felt a sense of unease and tentatively asked, "Caius, what do you want to say to me?"

Caius lifted his eyelids slightly, his deep gaze falling on Emrys, as if scrutinizing something.

Emrys felt tense under his stare, a cold sweat breaking out on his back.

Just as his anxiety peaked, he heard Caius speak, "Emrys, do you know what Dad said to me on his deathbed?"

Emrys was startled. "What?"

Caius let out a cold laugh but didn't answer immediately. The longer he remained silent, the more panicked Emrys became.

Emrys asked, "Caius, you don't have to be like this. Just say it directly. What did Dad say on his deathbed?"

Caius straightened up, slowly leaned closer, his eyes filled with a bloodthirsty menace and danger. "Emrys, I used to think you were someone who didn't fight or compete, but I never imagined you were the most ruthless of all."

Emrys's heart skipped a beat, and he stammered, "I-I don't understand what you mean."

Caius sneered, his eyes gradually bloodshot, and coldly questioned, "The person who was sent to inject something into Dad, that was your man, wasn't it?"

Emrys panicked, his smile barely holding. "Caius, what are you talking about? How could I do such a thing? Besides, didn't you find out earlier that it was Cassian who did it?"

Caius had anticipated he wouldn't admit it easily. He pulled out a cigarette from his pocket, lit it, and took a deep drag.

The smell of nicotine spread through his nostrils, and the surging anger finally subsided.

Caius said, "Emrys, even though you didn't inherit the Worthington Group, Dad and I have never treated you poorly. Why did you do this?"

Emrys narrowed his eyes slightly and suddenly laughed. "Really? Only you were taught medicine, only you inherited the company, and you have the most shares. You call that treating me good? That's favoritism!"

Caius snapped, "Ridiculous. You weren't taught medicine because you had no talent. Maybe you don't remember, but when you first started studying medical books, you slept on the desk every day. Later, Dad was disappointed in you and stopped letting you continue. As for inheriting the company, the Worthington Group is such a large enterprise, naturally, it needs someone reliable to take over. Is that you?"

Emrys opened his mouth, wanting to refute, but in the end, he couldn't say a word.

Caius seemed to see through his guilt and continued, "If you truly had the ability, compete with me openly and fairly, instead of using these dirty tricks behind my back. Listen up, the only reason I'm sparing your life is because Dad told me not to harm you on his deathbed. That doesn't mean I'll tolerate you forever. If you're smart, you'll behave and stop doing pointless things."

With that, Caius stood up and left the living room.

Emrys stood there in a daze, unable to recover for a long time.

Meanwhile, as soon as Abigail got off the plane, she took several deep breaths and smiled. "As expected, Aramore is still the most comfortable place."

Gregory grabbed her hand, pulled her into his arms with a bit of force, and said, "Then let's stay here forever and never go anywhere else."

Abigail stood on tiptoe, planted a kiss on the corner of his lips, and said with a grin, "No way, we still need to go back to Aerilon occasionally. After all, my parents are there."

"Alright, wherever you go, I'll follow." Gregory lowered his head, his hands tightly wrapped around her slender waist, resting his forehead against hers.
