Chapter 408 Human or Ghost

As the man struggled to rise, a boot slammed onto his chest, pinning him. Despite his efforts, he couldn't break free. Hearing the commotion, the bodyguards burst in.

Seeing the scene in the hospital room, they immediately had a bad feeling.

One bodyguard, "Abigail, what's going on?"

Abigail casually threw the needle aside and, upon hearing this, became furious. "You have the nerve to ask what's going on? Weren't you supposed to take good care of Darwin? Is this how you take care of him?"

After speaking, Abigail ignored everything else and kept calling Darwin, trying to wake him up.

But whether Darwin was sleeping too deeply or had been drugged, he couldn't be awakened.

She was extremely anxious and yelled at the bodyguards, "Why are you still standing here? Go get the doctor!"

The bodyguards realized the seriousness of the situation and quickly went out to get the doctor.

After examining Darwin, the doctor looked somewhat serious. "Darwin's condition seems to have suddenly worsened. Did something happen just now?"

Logically, although Darwin didn't have much time left, his condition was stable and shouldn't have deteriorated suddenly.

But now, it seemed quite serious.

Abigail and Gregory exchanged a glance.

Then Abigail nervously asked, "Doctor, did you have someone give Darwin more medication before?"

Doctor answered, "No, if we were to give the patient more medication, we would definitely communicate with the patient's family in advance. Also, some people have special constitutions, so we must ask clearly before prescribing to avoid allergens."

Abigail took a deep breath, forcibly suppressing the urge to beat up the person impersonating a doctor, and said, "Take the IV bag and infusion tube for examination. I want to see who has the audacity to harm Darwin."

The bodyguards received the order and quickly took the items back in sealed bags.

Gregory lifted the man from the ground and said to Abigail, "Leave this person to me. No matter who is behind him, I will find a way to make him talk."

Abigail nodded, her eyes full of trust.

Caius and Michelle rushed to the hospital upon hearing the news, but Cassian and Linnea arrived first. Opening the door to the chaotic room, they were stunned. "What happened here?"

Seeing Abigail guarding the bedside with red eyes, they exchanged a glance and then rushed to the bedside, crying loudly.

"Dad! What's wrong with you? Open your eyes and look at us!"

"Dad, don't leave us. Wake up!"

Caius and Marlowe arrived almost simultaneously, and as they approached the hospital room door, they heard the sounds of crying inside.

Everyone's expressions froze, and then they rushed in in a panic.

Seeing the situation inside, everyone's mood became heavy.

Caius looked at Darwin on the hospital bed in disbelief, his heart sinking. "What happened?"

"Dad, you're here." Abigail's eyes were red as she threw herself into his arms.

The couple from the second family stared at the sleeping Darwin on the bed for a long time and then started crying as well.

The atmosphere in the hospital room was extremely oppressive.

At this moment, a weak cough suddenly came from the hospital bed, startling everyone present.

Emrys and Cassian's faces changed drastically, almost falling to the ground in fright, their eyes widening in disbelief.

"Dad!"

"Dad, are you a person or a ghost?"

Hearing Cassian's words, Darwin almost fainted again in anger. "Say that again? Are you wishing for my death?"

Cassian, who had been scolded, twitched his eyelids hard, his face still wet with tears, looking somewhat comical. "Are you really okay? Then why couldn't we wake you up just now? And Abigail was crying so sadly."

Abigail, who was leaning against Caius, stiffened slightly, then slowly raised her head to meet Caius's puzzled eyes.

Caius grabbed her by the collar and made her stand up straight. "Explain honestly, what happened?"

Abigail blinked innocently and said seriously, "I didn't say anything. Just now, I didn't know what was going on either. Cassian and Linnea started crying as soon as they came in, and then you all came in."

"No, we thought Darwin had passed away because you looked so sad." Cassian almost fainted from anger.

He felt deceived.

Emrys quickly regained his composure and scolded coldly, "Abigail, how can you mess around with such a serious matter? Fortunately, Darwin is okay. Do you know how excessive your actions were just now?"

Seeing Emrys so fierce, Abigail instinctively hid behind Caius and defended herself. "I was crying because Darwin's condition worsened. The doctor said if he didn't wake up today, he might never have the chance again. Who knew you would start crying before I had a chance to tell you?"

So, what did this have to do with her?

Emrys and Cassian were choked and couldn't speak, their faces looking unpleasant.

Caius shielded Abigail behind him and said sternly, "Now is not the time to pursue this. Abigail, why did Darwin's condition worsen?"

Compared to his younger brothers, Caius was more composed. His position of power had trained him to remain calm, even in chaos.

Abigail glanced at Emrys and Cassian and recounted what had happened, "When I came in, I saw someone dressed as a doctor injecting something into Darwin's IV. Although it was pulled out, some liquid still flowed into his bloodstream."

Darwin's body couldn't withstand any more stress.

Moreover, that person intended to silently take Darwin's life.

Hearing this, Darwin and Caius's faces darkened.

"Where is that person?" Caius asked in a deep voice.

Abigail answered, "Gregory took him away. I believe there will be results soon."

As she spoke, she observed everyone's reactions, but she couldn't tell if she was overthinking or if the other party was hiding too well, as she didn't notice anything unusual.

Abigail silently sighed in her heart, praying that Gregory would have some results.

Caius said coldly, "No matter who the mastermind is, daring to mess with the Worthington family is courting death!"

Linnea suddenly spoke up, asking softly, "So how is Darwin's condition now?"

Abigail quickly called the doctor in to give Darwin a full-body examination.

Everyone waited in the hallway outside the ward.

Abigail knew Caius must be feeling very heavy-hearted at the moment, so she and Michelle stayed by his side, silently comforting him. "Dad, don't overthink it. Maybe it's not as serious as we thought."

Caius shook his head without speaking, his eyes fixed on the closed ward door.
