Chapter 410 The Ring

Darwin continued, "I'll give you a larger share of my properties. Caius has his own businesses and assets, so he won't compete with you."

Emrys and Cassian felt a fleeting balance but remained agitated. Property was nothing compared to shares. Caius already owned 10% of Worthington Group and now stood to gain more. It was clear Darwin intended Caius to inherit the company. As they lowered their heads, everyone focused on Darwin, missing the resentment and anger on their faces.

Linnea couldn't hold back her dissatisfaction and immediately expressed it. "You said Caius has his own assets, so why compete with us?"

Before Caius could speak, Abigail said, "My dad accumulated all that bit by bit. You blame him for being too capable because you lack the ability?"

For the first time in his life, Caius felt warmth from being protected by his daughter, and he couldn't help but smile. "Linnea, you're not as sensible and wise as Abigail."

Facing Caius's dangerous gaze, Linnea's face stiffened, and she was too angry to speak.

Darwin gave Linnea a cold look and said sternly, "Abigail is right. As my sons, I won't be too biased, but that's not a reason for your greed."

After addressing the elders, it was the younger generation's turn.

Darwin said, "I have a few small companies and some investments under my name. You can divide these equally."

Linnea's face turned ugly again. "Equally? Why? Bruce is a son, and the two daughters, what do they need so much money for?"

Emrys also disagreed. "If it were Mireille, it would be fine, but Abigail is an outsider, not a true blood of the Worthington family. This money shouldn't go to her, right?"

Although Abigail never expected Darwin to leave her an inheritance, she still felt uncomfortable hearing Emrys say that. "Whether I'm biological or not, I'm Caius's only child, and that can't be changed."

Caius nodded, firmly defending Abigail. "Abigail is my daughter, a child of the Worthington family."

Emrys said, "Caius, it's one thing for Dad to be irrational, but how can you be irrational too? How did Abigail enchant you both to defend her so much?"

Caius's expression turned cold, and he said word by word, "As a father, what's wrong with protecting my daughter and guarding her rightful inheritance?"

Abigail's heart warmed as Caius shielded her from harsh words. Though rarely protected by a father, she felt Caius's care despite his flaws and selfishness, especially with Michelle.

"Enough, stop arguing. My assets, my call, and you have no right to interfere." Darwin was getting a headache from their arguing, and his heart was faintly aching.

As the head of the family, even though he was ill, he couldn't hide his authority. Caius and Emrys immediately stopped arguing.

Darwin pinched his brow and waved his hand. "Alright, I've said everything I needed to say. You should leave now."

Caius took Michelle's hand and put his other arm around Abigail's shoulder, ready to leave/ "Dad, you should rest early. I'll add a few more bodyguards to ensure no one takes advantage."

As he was about to open the door to leave, Emrys's anxious voice suddenly came from behind, "Wait."

"What else?" Caius turned around and looked at Emrys.

Emrys pursed his lips and asked the question he had always wanted to ask, "Dad, with this arrangement of the will, are you planning to hand over the entire Worthington family to Caius?"

Darwin, who was about to close his eyes to rest, opened them slightly and frowned. "Is there a problem?"

Emrys said, "Of course. Dad, have you forgotten our tradition? To become the head of the Worthington family, one must have a specific token."

Darwin fell into deep thought and then said, "Rules are rigid, but people are flexible. That ring was lost 20 years ago, and finding it is not an easy task."

Emrys quickly said, "Although I believe Caius is capable of being the head of the Worthington family, I think we should be cautious until the ring is found."

Darwin's eyes narrowed slightly, as if seeing through his thoughts. "If Caius can't be the head, then which of you two can?"

Emrys and Cassian looked at each other, their eyes filled with caution and threat.

But clearly, they couldn't say such things directly.

Darwin sneered and turned away. "Since neither of you can do it, follow my arrangement. Even without the ring, Caius will temporarily act as the head."

With that, he didn't give them any time to refuse and directly sent them away.

Emrys and Cassian left the ward with dark expressions.

"Caius, don't get too proud. As long as you don't have the ring, you can't be the head of the Worthington family," Emrys said.

Caius sneered. "Do you think I really want to be the head?"

If he had cared about the position, he wouldn't have given it up in the first place.

Emrys and Cassian's faces turned extremely ugly as they stared at his back.

Cassian looked at Emrys. "What do we do now? We only got 11% of the shares each. Darwin is so unfair!"

Emrys's eyes narrowed, a hint of killing intent flashing. "Darwin isn't dead yet. A will isn't something that can't be changed."

Cassian's eyes lit up, and just as he was about to ask more, Emrys walked away.

On the other side, Abigail got into the car with Caius and Michelle, occasionally glancing at Caius in the driver's seat. "Dad, have Emrys and Cassian always been dissatisfied with you?"

Caius tightened his grip on the steering wheel and answered in a low voice, "Yeah. The Worthington family may look glamorous on the surface, but there are many interests involved. They've always wanted to control the Worthington Group but have been suppressed by me, unable to find an opportunity."

Now that the will was in place, they had even less of a chance.

Abigail sighed deeply. "Is money really more important than family?"

Caius suddenly laughed, his first smile of the day. "Abigail, you're still too naive. Not everyone values emotions as you do."

"I know, but I still feel sorry for Darwin." Although she hadn't spent much time with Darwin, she could see that he had tried hard to be fair.

Objectively, Caius's unmatched business talent made him the best candidate for the Worthington Group's heir, aligning with Darwin's desire for the company's growth.

Michelle asked, "By the way, what's the deal with the ring Emrys and Cassian mentioned?"
