Chapter 104 Goodnight, My Darling
In the end, Abigail didn't leave because Gregory wouldn't let her. He stuck to her like glue, as if afraid she'd vanish if he blinked.
Abigail had never seen Gregory act this way. It was both weird and funny to her.
Every time she mentioned checking up on Grace, he'd shut her up with a kiss. Sometimes, he'd kiss her before she even finished a sentence.
After a few rounds of this, her lips were swollen, and she stopped trying.
Gregory, pleased, smiled, took the hairdryer from her, and started drying her hair himself.
Feeling awkward, Abigail tried to take it back. "Mr. White, I can do it myself."
Gregory dodged her and insisted, "Let me. From now on, I'll dry your hair."
Henry had told him that physical contact helped couples bond.
Gregory never hesitated. Once he decided on something, he went all in. To him, pleasing Abigail was non-negotiable.
Even if she wasn't fully in love with him yet, he wasn't letting go.
Seeing she couldn't change his mind, Abigail gave up.
She sat on the couch, letting Gregory dry her hair.
His touch was gentle, his fingers threading through her hair, massaging her scalp.
The warm air from the hairdryer felt soothing, almost like a lullaby.
Soon, Abigail started feeling sleepy.
Gregory noticed and turned off the hairdryer. As she was about to doze off, he cupped her chin.
She was so sleepy that she tried to open her eyes but couldn't.
Gregory chuckled, picked her up, and laid her on the bed. He lay down next to her, kissed her goodnight, and smiled. "Good night, my darling."
Abigail slept until morning, waking up after ten.
She stretched and looked around, momentarily confused.
It took her a few seconds to remember she was at White Manor.
She couldn't recall when she had fallen asleep. The last thing she remembered was Gregory drying her hair.
Thinking of him, she turned and saw his spot was empty.
She got up, freshened up, and went to Grace's room.
Grace looked better but still tired.
Grace rarely got angry and took good care of herself. This time, Roman must've really upset her.
To help Grace's recovery, Abigail had Ralph bring her clothes and she planned to stay a few days.
Since Michelle passed away, Grace had been the one who loved her most.
She treated Grace like her own grandmother, and now, married to Gregory, she still saw her as family.
If Michelle were alive, she'd want Grace to be healthy and safe.
Grace was thrilled Abigail was staying behind to accompany her.
When she was healthy, Grace didn't notice, but now that she was sick, she appreciated having a young person around.
She felt even more sure that letting Abigail break off her engagement with Roman and marry Gregory was the right move.
Since Abigail moved into White Manor, Gregory started coming home on time every day, which was a first since he moved out.
Everyone at White Manor knew Gregory had left because Elaine was always causing trouble for him.
Elaine was greedy. When Gregory was kidnapped and injured, she had tried to take over the White Group.
Later on, when Gregory took control, she was unhappy and constantly criticized him in front of Grace, saying his methods were too harsh and hurt the family's reputation.
She claimed it was for the good of the White Group, but everyone knew her true intentions.
To give Grace some peace, Gregory moved out.
Since then, the house had been quiet.
Elaine came over for meals daily but didn't dare speak out of turn when alone with Grace.
So, the atmosphere at home was always subdued.
Grace never said it, but she missed having company.
The butler couldn't help but notice that since Abigail and Gregory moved back, the house felt lively again.
After three or four days, Grace's health showed noticeable improvement
At dinner, Grace came downstairs, and the butler and servants were smiling more.
Halfway through the meal, Elaine spoke up, "Mom, you're finally better. Just in time for my birthday in a few days. I'm planning to host a party. Do you agree?"
Grace glanced at her. "It's your party. You decide. You don't need to ask me."
Elaine laughed awkwardly. "I want you to attend. Happy occasions might help with your health."
Grace saw through her and snorted. "It's rare for you to be so kind."
Elaine quickly smiled. "I've been worried about you and wanted to stay with you, but I never found the chance."
She gave Abigail a pointed look.
Abigail caught the sarcasm immediately.
She smiled faintly and said, "Elaine, if you really wanted to, you would have found the chance."
Elaine glared at her. "Stop trying to drive a wedge between me and Mom. I've been praying for her all this time!"
"Really?" Abigail nodded, not sure if she believed her.
Elaine gritted her teeth. "Do you think everyone is like you, who only knows how to flatter?"
Abigail was about to retort when Gregory cut in, mocking, "When it comes to flattery, Elaine, you're the expert."
"Gregory, what do you mean by that?" Elaine was furious.
Gregory was mocking her!
How outrageous!
"Alright, stop arguing. Just do what you want with your birthday party. Let's eat," Grace said, bringing the discussion to an end.
With that, the table fell silent.
Elaine, fuming with anger, chewed her food aggressively, her eyes flashing with resentment.
It was like she was chewing on Abigail, not food.
