Chapter 437 Just spoil her then
Looking at Abigail's radiant smile, Caius felt a wave of irritation and waved his hand dismissively at the two of them. "Get out, get out, don't stand here grinning like fools. Hurry up and leave."
Abigail and Gregory exchanged a glance, then stepped forward with a smile, giving Caius a strong hug.
Abigail said, "Dad, take good care of Mom, okay? Don't make her sad anymore. I'm leaving now."
Caius stiffened, his entire demeanor becoming awkward and rigid.
He cleared his throat and muttered, "Yeah, got it. Hurry up already—it's not like you're disappearing forever."
Abigail smiled warmly, holding Gregory's hand as they left the study. A few steps later, they nearly bumped into Emrys, his stern face and cold gaze fixed on Abigail.
He questioned, "What sort of spell have you cast on Caius to make him trust you this much?"
Abigail raised a hand to touch her cheek, her lips curving into an innocent smile. "Maybe I'm just naturally charming."
Her casual response made Emrys's lips twitch with barely restrained annoyance.
"Let's cut the nonsense. What would it take for you to give up the Worthington family inheritance?" he said sharply. "
Abigail's eyes sparkled mischievously, a cunning glint flashing across them. "You want me to give it up? Well, it's possible."
Emrys's brows lifted in surprise. "Really? You're serious about this?"
Abigail nodded, her expression grave. "I've been thinking about it a lot. You're right—I'm not Caius's biological daughter, and as a woman, I'm probably not the best choice for this responsibility."
Gregory, catching Abigail's subtle signal, played along with a perfectly heartbroken expression. "Abigail, don't say that! To me, you're the most capable person in the world."
Abigail turned to Gregory, her voice soft with affection. "Do you really mean that? Will you always stand by me?"
"Always," Gregory said, his voice steady and sincere.
Emrys scowled, cutting in impatiently, "Enough of this sentimental nonsense. What's the catch? What do you want in return for stepping aside?"
Abigail nodded, a hint of cunning in her smile. "Of course, but I have conditions."
Emrys sneered inwardly; he knew it wouldn't be that simple. Abigail, seeming innocent, was just as greedy as anyone else. But this played to his advantage. Negotiations meant vulnerabilities.
Emrys's eyes gleamed with confidence. "Of course, name your terms. As long as they're reasonable, I'll agree."
Abigail's eyes twinkled with amusement. "My demands aren't high. I just like money—stocks, assets, you decide."
Relaxing, Emrys offered, "No problem. I have several properties. Take your pick."
Feigning surprise, Abigail teased, "Just one property? That's stingy."
Emrys stiffened. "A prime city-center property worth millions. Not enough?"
Abigail shook her head, smiling. "Millions? Compared to Worthington Group shares, it's nothing. Maybe I'll reconsider inheriting the company."
Emrys panicked. "Fine! I'll add 2% of Worthington Group shares. Don't push it."
Abigail exchanged a playful, knowing glance with Gregory, her eyes sparkling with mischief.
Gregory chuckled inwardly, realizing Emrys had been so rattled by the inheritance rumors that he was easily manipulated. He would be furious once he figured it out.
Gregory winked at Abigail, signaling her to wrap it up.
Abigail pretended to ponder for a moment, then nodded. "Alright, I agree. But you must keep your word!"
Emrys nodded eagerly. "Of course. I'll have the lawyer bring the transfer documents."
The lawyer arrived swiftly, and Abigail signed without hesitation. In just over an hour, she secured the shares and awaited property transfer.
Emrys secured the agreement and said, "I trust you'll keep your promise."
"Naturally," Abigail replied with a smile.
Caius and Quinn descended the stairs.
Caius asked, "What's going on? Why is Ivan Franklin here?"
Emrys, holding the share transfer agreement, beamed triumphantly. "Caius, you haven't heard, have you? Abigail said she misses home too much to stay at the Worthington Mansion, so she's voluntarily giving up her claim to the Worthington Group."
Before Caius could respond, Emrys adopted a benevolent elder's demeanor and added, "Honestly, though Abigail and I aren't very close, I didn't want her and Gregory to be separated. So, I compensated her generously on your behalf."
Abigail kept her head down, hiding her amusement. Only Gregory noticed her suppressed laughter, finding her irresistible.
Caius raised an eyebrow at Abigail. "Is this true?"
Abigail, lips pressed tight, nodded, fearing she might burst out laughing.
Caius sighed, addressing Gregory. "You spoil her."
Gregory nodded, unapologetic. "She's my wife. I'll always indulge her."
Emrys glanced between Abigail and Caius. "Is there a problem?"
"No, you did well. Thank you, Emrys. If Abigail doesn't want to inherit, as her dad, I won't force her," answered Caius.
Abigail nodded vigorously, relieved of the heavy burden of the Worthington Group and its responsibilities. Although she didn't mind studying medicine and managing the company, she was also afraid she might not do well. She now had more time with Gregory.
Emrys, barely containing his excitement, turned to Caius. "So, should we choose a new heir? Even if the younger generation isn't suitable, there's still..."
He had intended to give a good account of himself, but before he could finish, Caius interrupted, "You're right, Emrys. The heir should be chosen based on the competition results. Quinn is the best choice."
Quinn, expressionless, agreed. "I have no objections."
Emrys was stunned. "What? Quinn is the heir?"
