Chapter 371 Will You Be My Girlfriend?
Hearing this, Tricia became a bit panicked.
She could hardly say a complete sentence, stammering, "Mrs. Clark, don't worry, there's nothing between Henry and me. I know I'm not good enough for him and never thought of marrying him."
Skylar raised an eyebrow in surprise. She had assumed Henry's proposal meant their relationship was unbreakable, but now it seemed otherwise.
Could it be that her son was the one being one-sided?
Skylar touched her face, puzzled. Her son had inherited her good looks and was handsome wherever he went. Why would Tricia pull away?
Seeing Skylar staring at her without saying anything, Tricia became even more flustered.
"Mrs. Clark, I promise, I'm telling the truth! Don't worry, I won't covet the Clark family's money, nor will I cling to Henry."
She thought, 'So please don't try to solve this with money!'
Tricia was afraid that if the amount was too much, she wouldn't be able to refuse!
Skylar suddenly laughed, her delicate face softening from its previous seriousness and coldness.
"Ms. Dixon, don't be nervous, have a seat first."
Tricia exchanged a glance with Abigail, who gave her a reassuring look and pulled her to sit opposite Skylar.
"Mrs. Clark, our Tricia may come from an ordinary background, but she's definitely not a casual woman. She genuinely likes Henry, but she thought it through last night and decided not to have any emotional entanglements with Henry in the future."
Tricia nodded frantically, that was exactly what she meant!
Skylar's smile deepened as she casually stirred her coffee and spoke nonchalantly, "You misunderstand. I'm really not here to cause trouble."
Tricia and Abigail were stunned.
Skylar cleared her throat and said slowly, "I'm here to meet my future daughter-in-law."
Daughter-in-law? Did they hear that right?
Tricia gasped, her voice almost floating. "Abigail, am I hearing things?"
Abigail quickly calmed down.
She looked at Skylar and saw that she wasn't joking at all. She quickly patted Tricia's shoulder and said, "Tricia, you didn't hear wrong. Mrs. Clark won't stop you from being with Henry."
Tricia blinked, still feeling like she was dreaming.
How did she agree so easily?
Wasn't Skylar supposed to be very strong-willed and prideful?
Why did she suddenly agree?
Tricia probably didn't realize that all her thoughts were written on her face, making it easy for others to see through her.
Skylar smiled and explained, "Actually, at first, I did look down on you a bit. But since Henry likes you, and I only have one son, I don't want him to be childless in the future."
Hearing the word "childless," Tricia's excitement instantly cooled down, as if a bucket of cold water had been poured over her.
She trembled as she spoke, "Mrs. Clark, I'm sorry, I can't be with Henry. I'm actually pregnant, and this child isn't Henry's. I don't want to abort this child."
She and Henry were destined to be apart.
Skylar frowned slightly, and Tricia's heart tightened.
She was about to become a mother herself and naturally knew how angry a mother would be upon learning her son had been deceived.
She closed her eyes tightly, waiting for the angry words.
However, after a moment, the expected anger and accusations did not come.
She slowly opened her eyes and tentatively looked over, only to see Skylar still very calm, with a hint of guilt in her eyes.
Skylar asked her, "This might be a bit presumptuous, but I still want to ask, do you have a good relationship with your ex-boyfriend?"
Tricia smiled bitterly. "If it were good, we wouldn't have broken up."
Skylar asked, "One last question, when did you and your ex get intimate? Time, place, and did it happen again afterward?"
Tricia clenched her hands, her body swaying. "Mrs. Clark, what do you mean by this? This is my privacy."
"Sorry, I was being presumptuous."
Skylar silently cursed her son before explaining, "It's like this, last night Henry called me and said that three months ago, he had relations with you. I just want to confirm whether this child is your ex-boyfriend's or Henry's."
"What? Henry and I, how is that possible!" Tricia's eyes widened in disbelief.
Suddenly, a memory flashed: she got drunk because of Tom, saw him, and rushed to hug him. He took her to a hotel, but as he was leaving, she kissed him, and they ended up being intimate.
So the man that night wasn't Tom but Henry?
And the child in her womb was Henry's?
How could this be!
Skylar gently said to her, "If the child is really your ex-boyfriend's, I might not agree to you being together. The Clark family certainly has no reason to raise someone else's child. Ms. Dixon, Henry didn't mean to deceive you. He told me that it was all a mistake. He went out for a while, and when he came back, you were gone. When he saw you again, you were with your ex-boyfriend."
Tricia's mind was in chaos, almost losing the ability to think.
She forced herself to stand up from the sofa and said to Skylar, "I need some time to think. I'll go back first, Mrs. White, goodbye."
Skylar nodded. "Please go ahead."
After leaving the café, Tricia's legs went weak, and she almost fell to the ground. Fortunately, Abigail was quick to catch her.
"Tricia, what's wrong? Isn't this a good thing? The child is Henry's, and Mrs. Clark didn't stop you from being together. All the obstacles are gone."
Tricia suddenly burst into tears, hugging Abigail and feeling a bit aggrieved. "I just feel like I was so stupid before."
Stupid enough to not even know who she slept with that night!
And because of that, she fell into a state of inferiority, not daring to get close to Henry.
Abigail gently patted her back and asked with a smile, "So are you planning to accept Henry now?"
Tricia wiped her tears, her face turning red with shyness. "Not necessarily, I still need to evaluate him. After all, Henry is such a playboy, it's too insecure."
Abigail nodded lightly. "In that case, don't rush to agree. Take your time to evaluate."
After resolving her inner conflict, Tricia felt much better, her face once again adorned with a bright smile.
When they got home, she originally wanted to go upstairs to rest, but suddenly pink rose petals fell.
Only then did they realize that the house had changed.
The walls were covered with balloons of various colors, some even stuck to the walls in the shape of hearts.
The carpet had been removed, replaced with romantic decorations, leading all the way to the end, where roses were arranged in the shape of a heart.
Inside were candles and a line of words: [Will you be my girlfriend?]
