Chapter 203 Breakup
Seeing Abigail's confused look, Susan's eyes flickered, and she grinned, "Ms. Martin, I'm heading out now."
Abigail gave a slight nod and said, "You should get checked out at the hospital. Don't put it off."
Susan quickly stepped into the elevator.
Back in her office, Abigail didn't dive into the files right away. Instead, she rested her chin on her hand, lost in thought.
She'd been married to Gregory for a few months now. Should she start thinking about having a kid?
As soon as the thought popped into her head, Abigail quickly brushed it off.
She had just taken over the company and was swamped with work, while Gregory, managing the White Group, was even busier.
Most importantly, she wasn't ready to be a mom yet. She could barely take care of herself, let alone a kid.
Realizing where her thoughts were going, Abigail shook her head with a smile and pushed the idea away.
After dealing with the morning's files, Abigail called a meeting with all departments to discuss the collaboration with the White Group, sparking surprise and excitement among the team.
In terms of reputation and strength, DM wasn't exactly top-tier in the industry.
Collaborating with the White Group was a big deal. They didn't even get invited to some high-end industry events. That's why DM had been struggling.
David had initially focused on real estate and financial investments, paying little heed to the fashion sector. However, over time, DM had evolved into its present form.
"Ms. Martin, you're incredible. Not everyone can land a deal with the White Group!"
"Of course, look at Ms. Martin. She's the president's wife over at the White Group!"
"Mr. White spoils Mrs. White. What's the big deal about sharing some resources? From now on, I'm sticking with Ms. Martin and following her lead!"
Listening to everyone's chatter, Abigail felt a bit helpless.
"Meeting adjourned. I want to see the final designs by tomorrow," Abigail said.
The room went silent.
The employees, who had been chatting non-stop, started to complain, "Ms. Martin, isn't that deadline too tight?"
"Tomorrow? I'll have to pull an all-nighter!"
"Can't we get a break?"
Looking at them, Abigail found it amusing. "The deadline was set a week ago. Why didn't you speak up then? If you miss it, I won't cut you any slack."
She let her employees chat and joke around usually, but when it came to work, they had to be serious.
Seeing their pitiful expressions, Abigail added, "I've ordered afternoon tea for everyone."
As soon as she said that, the room erupted in cheers.
"Thank you, Ms. Martin!"
"Ms. Martin is the coolest, youngest, prettiest, and most caring CEO we've ever had!"
Abigail shook her head with a smile and left the meeting room with the files.
"Ms. Martin." After taking a few steps, someone suddenly called her from behind.
Abigail turned around to see Tom approaching and stopping in front of her.
The moment she saw him, Abigail's face turned icy, and her tone was flat, "What do you want?"
Tom acted like he didn't notice her coldness and smiled, "Ms. Martin, are you really that wary of me? Relax, I'm not here to cause trouble."
Abigail sneered, a hint of sarcasm in her eyes. "You think I'd believe that?"
If he really meant no harm, why would he go out of his way to approach her and come to DM for an interview?
Tom didn't argue, just said, "Just know that I'm not here to target you. I genuinely want to help you out."
Abigail shot back, "You make it sound like I owe you something. You applied for the job, I pay you a salary. It's just business, so let's keep it professional."
Ever since Abigail figured out Tom had ulterior motives, she wanted to keep her distance.
Hearing this, Tom chuckled softly, looking at Abigail with even more tenderness. "You're so cute, just like when you were a kid."
Abigail's eyes widened in surprise, "When we were kids? We've never met before!"
Tom leaned in closer, whispering in her ear, "You were a cute, lively little sun back then."
He was so close, his warm breath brushed against her skin as he spoke.
Abigail quickly stepped back a couple of steps, her wariness deepening. "Tom, what exactly do you want?"
She couldn't figure out Tom or why he was so interested in her.
Tom's eyes darkened as if he remembered something. "Don't worry, you'll find out soon enough."
With that, he turned and left before Abigail could ask more questions.
Watching him leave, Abigail clenched her fists tightly.
If he weren't still somewhat useful, she wouldn't let him off so easily!
After work, Abigail stayed late to avoid Tom, but to her surprise, she bumped into him in the elevator on her way to the lobby
Tom had his back to her, and in front of him stood a familiar figure, Tricia!
Abigail took a few steps forward and heard the sound of an argument.
"Tom, seriously? I'm carrying your baby, and now you wanna break up with me?"
"Tom, you jerk! If you didn't like me, why'd you even get with me? And now that there's a kid, you don't wanna step up and take responsibility?"
Tricia's voice was choked with sobs, and she looked at Tom with a face full of hurt.
Since being with Tom, she felt like she was living in a dream, unable to believe her luck in finding such an amazing and handsome boyfriend.
Most importantly, although Tom was cold, he treated her very well and took care of her meticulously.
So when she found out she was pregnant, she felt it was a blessing from God.
Although she wasn't sure if Tom would like the child, she firmly believed that as long as they were together, they could overcome any difficulties.
But since that night, Tom hadn't contacted her. Checking their chat history, she was surprised to see that she had always been the one initiating contact; Tom hardly ever reached out first.
