Chapter 91 Slap
Roman and Jessica's expressions changed instantly.
Roman, furious and embarrassed, snapped, "Abigail, say that again if you dare!"
"I don't feel like it now." Abigail crossed her arms and looked up at him. "What? Gonna hit me, nephew?"
She stressed the last word, a smirk on her face.
Roman's expression darkened, eyes cold. "Abigail, if you hadn't seduced Gregory, do you think he'd like you?"
Abigail shot back, "You're disgusting. Do you know how much damage spreading rumors can do to a girl?"
Tricia wanted to rush up and slap Roman twice. As Abigail's friend, she knew how much Abigail had suffered because of him. She'd been fed up with Roman for a long time.
Abigail stopped her just in time and slapped Roman hard.
"I used to think you were just blind. Now I see you might have a brain problem too," Abigail spat.
Roman regretted his words the moment he said them.
But before he could react, he got slapped hard.
His face stung with pain.
Roman's eyes were full of disbelief, and his anger flared.
He thundered, "I didn't do anything wrong. You clung to the engagement, stopping Jessica and me from being together openly. You got with Gregory just to get back at me for loving Jessica, didn't you?"
Abigail suddenly laughed, but her gaze was icy.
"Roman, stop playing the victim. If you really wanted out, the engagement was just a formality. But you didn't because you're selfish and couldn't give up the perks of being engaged to me. You're the last person who should criticize me," she retorted.
Abigail couldn't believe the Roman in front of her was the same boy who saved her life ten years ago.
Over the years, because of that life-saving debt, she had repeatedly given in.
But it only led to Roman taking advantage of her again and again.
After ten years, the debt was long repaid.
She shook her hand and pulled Tricia, ready to leave.
Roman opened his mouth to argue but couldn't say a wordbecause everything Abigail said was true.
After falling for Jessica, he should have broken off the engagement, but he didn't.
The benefits of marrying into the Martin family were too great for Stephen and others, and Elaine wouldn't allow it.
He kept telling himself it wasn't his fault he didn't love Abigail; it was Abigail's fault.
She was too boring, stubborn, and couldn't compare to Jessica's gentleness and thoughtfulness.
Sometimes, after telling a lie so many times, even he started to believe it.
Jessica asked Roman with concern, "Roman, is your face okay? My sister is so unreasonable to hit you."
In the past, Roman would have agreed with Jessica and hated Abigail more because of her words.
But now, maybe because Abigail's gaze was too cold or out of guilt, he didn't take Jessica's words to heart at all.
Abigail and Tricia had just taken a few steps when a familiar, cold voice came from behind. "Roman, who taught you to disrespect your elders?"
Abigail stopped and instinctively turned to look back, seeing Gregory striding over, his handsome face dark, brows furrowed, exuding a sense of authority.
Roman and Jessica were stunned, eyes wide with a hint of fear.
Gregory stopped in front of Roman, his gaze icy. "Roman, apologize to Abigail."
Roman, intimidated by Gregory's sharp eyes, shrank back and nervously gulped. "Gregory, I..."
Gregory cut him off. "Apologize. Don't make me say it a third time."
Roman and Gregory locked eyes for a long moment. Finally, Roman couldn't bear it and lowered his head. "Abigail, I'm sorry."
Gregory pressed, "Louder."
Roman's face turned red, and he raised his voice, "Abigail, I'm sorry!"
Only then did Gregory step back, satisfied, and walk over to Abigail. "Abigail, I'm sorry I'm late. You've been wronged."
Abigail snapped out of her reverie, eyes full of surprise. "Mr. White, why are you here?"
Gregory chuckled and ruffled her hair. "You'll find out this afternoon."
Abigail was puzzled but didn't press further since Gregory didn't explain.
He turned to Roman, his voice cold. "Roman, I hope this is the last time."
Jessica didn't dare breathe loudly. Hearing this, she glared at Abigail viciously. 'Who does she think she is? Just because Gregory dotes on her, she thinks she can do whatever she wants? So what if she marries Gregory? Gregory can't have children, and in the future, won't the entire White family still belong to Roman? When I become the wife of the White Group's president, let's see how arrogant Abigail can be!'
As Jessica was lost in her thoughts, Abigail's gaze suddenly drifted over to her.
Abigail sneered. "And you, don't worry. Only someone like you would treasure a backstabbing person like Roman. You don't need to see me as an enemy."
If Roman hadn't been her savior, she would have ended the engagement long ago. In her eyes, Roman couldn't compare to Gregory.
Jessica saw the deep disdain and mockery in Abigail's eyes. She gritted her teeth, a rush of blood and anger almost overwhelming her reason.
Summoning some unknown courage, she stepped forward, pointing at Abigail and saying to Gregory, "Gregory, even though she's my sister, I don't want you to be deceived. The reason she's with you is entirely to get back at Roman..."
Gregory glanced at her indifferently and suddenly chuckled.
Just as Jessica thought her words had an effect, she heard Gregory say, "Why would our Abigail need to seduce anyone? As long as she beckons, I'm willing to fulfill all her demands."
Roman and Jessica were stunned, unable to believe what they were hearing.
Roman's lips parted, and he emphasized, "Gregory, do you know what you're saying? Abigail is using you!"
Gregory pulled the stunned Abigail into his arms, saying in a casual but firm tone. "Our marital affairs are none of your business."
Roman and Jessica's expressions became complicated.
They had thought that even if Abigail married Gregory, Gregory wouldn't care about her.
How could a powerful, prestigious man like Gregory be interested in a woman who only had beauty?
But what had they heard?
Gregory said he was willing to do all this?
Not only were they shocked, but even Abigail hadn't expected Gregory to say that.
