Chapter 287 The Deal

Abigail hadn't spoken yet when Gregory tugged at her arm.

Gregory stared sharply at David, his thin lips curling slightly. "You're accusing Abigail's mom without any evidence? Why should we believe you?"

David's face turned cold, and he snorted. "Believe it or not, the evidence is in my hands. If you don't comply, I'll release the photos at any time."

When Michelle was still alive, he was always angry because of those photos.

Michelle never knew until her death that he still had those photos.

Abigail and Gregory exchanged a glance, their hearts sinking.

David didn't seem to be lying. Could the photos be real?

Regardless of what the photos contained, if David got angry and released them, the consequences would be unimaginable.

Abigail closed her eyes tightly, took a deep breath, and forced herself to calm down.

The more critical the moment, the less she could panic.

Otherwise, David would seize the opportunity.

"David, I can agree to release them, but you have to prove that you really have the photos. Otherwise, wouldn't I be at a loss?" Abigail said.

David's eyes flickered, and after a moment of thought, he nodded. "Alright, come to the hospital in three days, and I'll show you the evidence."

He had nothing left to lose now, so he might as well take a gamble.

Abigail nodded in agreement. "Fine, it's a deal. You better keep your word."

After leaving the hospital, the long-suppressed anger surged within Abigail, her face darkening.

"Mr. White, what should I do?" Abigail asked helplessly.

'Do I really have to release Susan and Jessica?'

Gregory extended his long arm, pulling her into his embrace, and comforted her in a low voice. "Don't worry, I'll have people watch David these days. Nothing will happen."

Feeling the warmth of Gregory's embrace, Abigail's agitated heart calmed down a bit.

She took a deep breath and hugged Gregory tightly.

The two stood at the hospital entrance, embracing for a long time. Once Abigail's emotions had completely settled, Gregory spoke. "It's getting late. Let's go back."

"Alright," Abigail said.

No matter what, she couldn't let David have his way.

...

Hospital room.

After Abigail and Gregory left, David clutched his chest in pain, frowning in agony.

He forced himself to crawl out of bed, moving inch by inch, trying to get up and call the doctor.

But he had no strength at all. Any slight movement would pull at his wound.

What should have been a simple turn took David a full five minutes.

By the time he adjusted his position, he was already gasping for breath.

His face was pale, a thin layer of sweat on his forehead, looking utterly miserable.

Finally, after much effort, he managed to get out of bed.

Just as he reached the door, a nurse quickly came over. Seeing his condition, she hurried to call the doctor.

After a thorough examination, David's condition finally stabilized.

The doctor, looking grim, scolded him sternly. "Didn't I tell you to control your emotions and avoid any major fluctuations? Do you want to live or not?"

David opened his mouth but couldn't find any words to retort, so he just kept smiling.

In his heart, he was cursing Abigail over and over.

Abigail, she was indeed against him.

Once he recovered, he'd see how to deal with her!

The doctor reattached the monitoring equipment on him and gave a few more instructions before leaving.

David lay on the bed, taking deep breaths.

He cherished his life the most. He was only in his fifties; he couldn't afford anything to happen!

Thinking of this, David's eyes narrowed, a ruthless glint flashing in them.

'Abigail...That bitch, why doesn't she just die?'

Had he foreseen this outcome, he wouldn't have relented back then and retained Abigail.

Now it had become a disaster!

David took a deep breath and slowly exhaled. Once he had calmed down, he looked at the nurse and asked, "When can I be discharged?"

The nurse looked surprised. "In your current condition, you're thinking about discharge? The doctor said you need to stay in the hospital for at least half a month."

"What? Absolutely not! I have pressing matters to attend to." David's emotions flared up again, causing a faint pain in his chest.

The nurse sighed helplessly. "Mr. David Martin, Ms. Martin has already paid the hospital fees. Just stay here and rest."

She paused and then muttered softly, "I really don't understand you wealthy families. With such a beautiful, excellent, and filial daughter, shouldn't you cherish her?"

David's face darkened at her words.

To be fair, Abigail was indeed an excellent and outstanding daughter. But so what? She wasn't his child, so she didn't deserve his fatherly love!

The nurse said that only because she hadn't met Jessica!

His Jessica was truly gentle and kind. Abigail, that hypocritical woman, couldn't compare at all!

Thinking of this, he became even more determined to rescue Jessica.

After much thought, David finally found a trustworthy person in his contacts.

It was a former subordinate of his. Back then, the man's family was in poor condition, and his mother needed a large sum for surgery. David had helped pay for it.

So, that subordinate always saw him as a lifesaver and wanted to repay him.

He immediately called the person, instructing them to retrieve the photos.

For the next three days, Gregory had people watching the hospital and David's previous villa.

But no suspicious individuals approached.

Gregory rubbed his temples and instructed Leo, "Check if David has made any calls or sent any messages in the past two days."

Leo nodded. "Yes, Mr. White, I'll get on it right away."

Half an hour later, Leo brought a list. "Mr. White, these are all of David's call records from the past three days."

Gregory glanced at the long list and couldn't help but sneer. "He's smart, trying to cover his tracks. But too bad."

Too bad David underestimated his abilities.

"Investigate all the numbers on this list and see if any are suspicious," Gregory instructed.

Leo, not daring to delay, quickly went to investigate. Within half a day, he had narrowed it down to five numbers.

Leo said, "Of these five numbers, two are disconnected, and the owners of the other three are not in Aramore."

"Disconnected," Gregory murmured, a hint of interest flashing in his deep eyes.

It seemed he had underestimated David. Given David's character, going to such lengths meant he didn't want Gregory to find the photos.

He leaned back in his leather swivel chair, his well-defined fingers gently tapping the desk, his expression unreadable.
