Chapter 64 How About You Kiss Me Back
Abigail looked at Gregory and asked, "Mr. White, are you sure it's okay if you don't go?"
She didn't like Elaine's tone but had no issues with Olivia. What if Olivia really wanted to commit suicide?
Gregory tossed his phone aside and looked at Abigail, "Do you want me to go, Abigail?"
Abigail thought about it. If Gregory went, could she stay indifferent? The answer was no. No wife would want her husband to see another woman in the middle of the night, right?
Under Gregory's gaze, Abigail shared her thoughts. After she finished, Gregory stayed silent for a long time. She worried he might think she was being petty and watched his expression nervously.
To her surprise, Gregory's eyes were smiling, like he was in a good mood. He was happy because Abigail's answer satisfied him. If she had said she didn't care, he would have been sad.
He picked Abigail up, blanket and all, and walked out of the room. Abigail was caught off guard and instinctively wrapped her arms around his neck, "Mr. White, what are you doing? Put me down!"
Gregory smiled and held her tighter. "Let's go back to the bedroom. If you stay here, the servants might think I'm bullying you."
"You are bullying me," Abigail muttered, sulking and turning her face away.
Gregory laughed, carrying her back to the bedroom and placing her on the bed. "Yes, so I'm trying to make it up to you. Don't be mad, okay?"
Looking into Gregory's smiling eyes, Abigail said, "You're just saying it." Not a bit of sincerity.
Gregory's smile deepened. He leaned in and whispered, "Then what counts as sincerity? How about you kiss me back?"
Abigail's face turned red. She grabbed a pillow and threw it at him, "Mr. White!"
Gregory caught the pillow, tossed it aside, and said seriously, "Really not going to kiss me back? I'm ready."
Abigail couldn't help but laugh. 'Why is Gregory so playful tonight?' she wondered. 'What happened to his cold and reserved demeanor? Why is he suddenly so assertive and attractive?'
She pushed Gregory away and covered herself with the blanket, leaving only half her head exposed. "Don't even think about kissing me."
Gregory regretfully straightened up. Abigail was getting smarter and harder to fool. But it didn't matter. Getting her back was already a step forward.
He turned off the lights and lay down beside her. The room fell into darkness, but Abigail couldn't sleep. Every time she closed her eyes, she saw Gregory kissing her in the bathroom. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn't shake those images.
She started tossing and turning, unable to sleep.
A low voice came from beside her. "Can't sleep?"
Abigail stiffened and held her breath. "Yes."
In the dark, Gregory opened his eyes and looked in her direction. His eyes had adjusted, and he could vaguely see her in the moonlight filtering through the curtains.
He thought for a moment and moved closer, hugging her along with the blanket.
Abigail was startled, and her body became even more rigid. "Mr. White!"
"Don't worry. I'm just holding you," Gregory reassured her.
Abigail had been facing away from him. Hearing this, she slowly turned to face him. Their eyes met.
"Mr. White, have you ever regretted marrying me?" she asked.
Abigail didn't feel like a competent wife. When they signed the marriage agreement, she thought it wouldn't matter if they had a physical relationship. But comforting her was one thing. Actually doing it was another. She felt guilty toward Gregory.
Gregory chuckled softly and rubbed her head. "No, never. Our Abigail is a wonderful girl. Marrying you is my good fortune."
Abigail blinked, clearly not believing him. She knew she wasn't perfect and not a good wife.
Seeing her disbelief, Gregory sighed. "Do you know why I chose you as my wife?"
Abigail shook her head. It had puzzled her for a long time. There were many people better and with better family backgrounds than her, but Gregory chose her, who almost became his nephew's fiancée.
Gregory smiled. "You are beautiful, sweet, sensible, and make my grandma happy. Your virtues are countless."
Most importantly, he liked her. But that wasn't something he could say just yet.
"You have many good qualities. So, Abigail, you don't need to close off your heart because of one hurt," he continued.
Abigail was surprised. She didn't expect Gregory to say these things. Besides the surprise, she felt touched. "Mr. White, thank you for telling me this. No one has ever said such things to me before."
Gregory's lips curved up. "It's okay. Abigail, you have many more good qualities. I'll tell you about them one by one in the future."
As Abigail heard Gregory's words, her ears started to feel hot, and she felt a little shy. She covered her cheeks with her hands, not daring to look into his eyes.
'Mr. White is really good at sweet-talking, isn't he?' she thought.
"So, Abigail, are you willing to give it a try with me?" Gregory asked.
"What?" Abigail looked up, confused.
Gregory said, "You said you don't mind me getting close to you and you don't dislike my kisses. So, are you willing to take it a step further with me?"
Abigail opened her mouth, too shocked to speak. After a moment, she blushed and asked softly, "Mr. White, do you mean the step further that I'm thinking of?"
