Chapter 113 Honey, You're So Good to Me
Gregory pulled Abigail onto the couch, handed her some dessert and juice, and said, "From now on, don't hold back if you run into Roman."
Abigail had endured a great deal during her engagement to Roman. At that time, Gregory could only offer Roman some advice, which proved largely ineffective. However, now that Abigail was his wife, Gregory could openly protect her.
From the moment he brought Abigail home, Gregory vowed to protect her for life and never let her get hurt again.
Seeing the care in Gregory's eyes, Abigail felt warm inside. She nodded and smiled. "Don't worry, Mr. White. I won't hold back!"
Gregory smiled, ruffling her hair affectionately. They sat side by side, smiling at each other, their eyes full of affection. The scene was picture-perfect.
Many guests who witnessed this couldn't help but sigh. No one expected the usually aloof Gregory to reveal such a gentle side.
They had assumed he married Abigail either to provoke Stephen or simply for amusement, but now they were no longer so certain. His deep, gentle demeanor suggested he was not merely playing around.
Hiding by the stairs, Olivia watched, her hands tightening, nails digging into her flesh. She stared venomously at Abigail, gritting her teeth.
Elaine, done entertaining guests, walked over and patted Olivia on the shoulder. "Olivia, why are you hiding here?"
Following Olivia's gaze, Elaine noticed Gregory and Abigail. She snorted and muttered, "Little bitch! Can't live without a man? At a party like this, every man is busy with business, but she clings to Gregory."
Olivia's eyes flickered. "It's not that she's clinging to Gregory; it's that Gregory chose to stay."
"What?" Elaine was surprised.
Olivia briefly explained what had happened earlier and said, "Aunt Elaine, Jessica isn't simple. Otherwise, Roman wouldn't be so protective of her."
Although she disliked Abigail, she despised Jessica. She viewed Abigail as a rival because Abigail was the first to get close to Gregory in years. In contrast, Jessica, the daughter of a mistress, had seduced Roman through underhanded means, and Olivia held no regard for her whatsoever.
Elaine laughed disdainfully. "Don't worry, as long as I'm here, she won't marry into the White family!"
Olivia shook her head gently, saying no more. Elaine probably hadn't realized that Roman was at an age where the more you forbade him, the more he wanted to do it.
Aunt Elaine had only one son, so she'd eventually give in. She had no clue what Olivia was plotting. Her eyes were locked on Abigail, filled with hatred, as she thought, 'Abigail is just like her mother, Michelle. Always seducing men!'
Seeing Gregory's care for Abigail reignited all the bitterness from her loss to Michelle. She asked angrily, "Olivia, when does your plan start?"
"I can't do it today, maybe next time," Olivia replied, biting her lip.
"Why?" Elaine's voice was sharp with frustration.
Olivia glanced at Abigail and said coldly, "Jessica and Roman had a conflict earlier, embarrassing the White family. If we act now, it might raise suspicion."
Olivia's target was always Abigail, but she didn't want Gregory to hate her. So, now wasn't the best time.
Elaine felt regretful and angry. "With Jessica around, nothing goes smoothly. Are we just going to let it go?"
They had everything prepared, including an ambulance, just waiting for Abigail to be alone. But she never was. First, she stayed close to Gregory. Then, the wealthy ladies and socialites surrounded her. Finally, even Henry and Quinn arrived, leaving no opportunity to act.
After waiting all night, now the timing wasn't right?!
Seeing Elaine's frustration, Olivia grabbed her hand and whispered, "Aunt Elaine, don't worry, there will be another chance."
Elaine had to suppress her resentment but could no longer enjoy the party. Many guests noticed that the once radiant Elaine looked very down in the latter half of the party. Though no one knew the reason, they they wisely kept their distance.
...
After midnight, the party wound down.
Abigail leaned on Gregory's shoulder, drowsy and nearly slipping off.
Gregory caught her just in time, steadying her by holding her chin. As she opened her eyes, still unfocused, Gregory gently patted her and said, "Sleep. I'll take you home soon."Gregory's gentle voice lulled her back to sleep. When she woke up again, she heard a familiar yet strange voice.
"Sorry, I'm late. There was a project in A City that took longer than expected," Stephen apologized.
Then, Elaine's delicate, resentful voice followed. "You still know to come back. It's past midnight, Stephen. Do you love me or not?"
Stephen, feeling helpless, tried to comfort her, "I got you a special gift from Lindriver City. See if you like it?"
Elaine took the gift box, surprise flashing in her eyes. "It's my favorite jewelry. Honey, you're so good to me!"
Seeing her smile return, Stephen breathed a sigh of relief.
