Chapter 196 Business First

Seeing Gregory's jealous face, Abigail couldn't help but feel a bit helpless.

She grabbed his hand, gave it a couple of playful shakes, and said in a teasing tone, "Babe, you know you're my number one!"

Gregory's hand was big and rough, with calluses on his knuckles, totally different from Abigail's soft and delicate hands.

Feeling her gentle touch and hearing her sweet, teasing voice, Gregory's heart melted.

All his anger just vanished in an instant.

"Alright, I'll let it slide this time," Gregory said, lifting his chin, secretly enjoying the moment.

After being together for so long, Abigail knew him too well. The calmer he looked, the more he was feeling inside. He was probably secretly thrilled right now!

But she didn't call him out on it.

"Mr. White, spill it. What did Henry say? Is he going after Tricia on purpose?" Abigail asked.

"We'll get to that later; let's handle this first." Gregory took her hand and led her to the sofa.

He sat down first, then with a gentle tug, Abigail fell right into his lap.

She lost her balance and let out a little yelp. Before she knew it, she was sitting on Gregory's lap.

Gregory's legs, strong and firm even through his suit pants, made her feel his strength.

Abigail wrapped her arms around his neck, resting her chin on his shoulder, her cheeks turning pink.

She playfully pounded his chest with her fists. "You tricked me again!"

Gregory laughed and caught her wrist, lowering his head to kiss it.

The cool touch made Abigail pull back instinctively, but Gregory held on tighter.

"Scared?" Gregory teased.

Abigail pouted, "Not even a little."

Even though Gregory could be childish sometimes, he never messed around with her safety.

Looking into her eyes, full of trust and dependence, Gregory felt his heart swell with warmth.

He hugged her tightly, touched his forehead to hers, his deep blue eyes serious and focused. "Abigail, as long as I'm here, nothing will hurt you."

It was both a fact and a promise.

Abigail looked into his eyes, seeing her reflection, feeling like his eyes were filled with just her.

She smiled, her heart feeling warm and protected.

"Mr. White." Her eyelashes fluttered as she leaned in to kiss him.

But just as her lips were about to touch his, there was a knock on the door.

Abigail snapped back to reality, quickly trying to get up from Gregory's lap.

She straightened her clothes and called out, "Come in."

Susan walked in with a file, ready to report, but found Gregory looking serious, his eyes sharp.

And Abigail's cheeks were unusually flushed.

Abigail was already stunning, but now her face looked like a ripe apple, glowing and inviting, like it was silently asking someone to take a bite.

Realizing her thoughts, Susan's cheeks turned red, and she silently apologized, 'Sorry!'

'Did I just interrupt Mr. White and Ms. Martin's moment? Am I about to lose my job?' Susan wondered.

Abigail went back to her desk, noticing Susan's complicated look darting between her and Gregory, making her feel a bit tense.

She cleared her throat and said, "Susan, what do you need?"

Susan snapped out of her thoughts and quickly handed over the file. "Ms. Martin, there's an urgent document that needs your review."

Abigail nodded, opened the file, and skimmed through it. "The document looks good, but we can lower the price a bit. The fabric quality from this company is pretty solid; we should keep working with them."

Susan nodded, took the file back. "I'll leave you two to it then."

With that, she quickly walked away in her high heels, not giving Abigail a chance to explain.

Abigail sighed and rubbed her forehead. Had her image in the employees' minds completely crumbled?

Gregory, on the other hand, didn't seem worried at all. He chuckled and said, "This secretary is pretty sharp."

Abigail shot back, "You still say that, it's all your fault. Soon, everyone in the company will know about us."

Gregory stayed calm. "What's there to worry about? We're legally married; even the police can't do anything about it."

Seeing her getting more and more off track, Abigail quickly changed the subject. "Isn't your company busy? How do you have time to come over today?"

Gregory instinctively wanted to say, "Of course, I missed you." But seeing the blush on Abigail's face that hadn't faded, he swallowed the words back.

He decided to save those sweet words for later that night, to say them in bed.

He cleared his throat and got to the point, "I called Henry, but that guy was evasive and didn't say much."

Abigail immediately got worried. "What should we do? Tricia is my best friend."

Seeing her upset, Gregory quickly added, "Don't worry, Henry isn't someone who can't tell right from wrong. He told me that VirtualBank has decided to hire Tricia."

"Really?" Abigail's eyes lit up, her heart filled with joy. "I knew my dear Tricia was the best. If she didn't pass the interview, I would have brought her to DM."

Gregory felt relieved hearing that. Luckily, Tricia didn't come.

If those two were together all day, Tricia might make Abigail forget everything.

Abigail had no idea that in Gregory's mind, she already had a somewhat flirtatious image.

She excitedly took out her phone and called Tricia. "I have to tell Tricia the good news quickly, so she doesn't overthink."

The phone rang twice before it was answered.

Tricia's cheerful voice came through the receiver, lighter and happier than ever. "Abigail, we really are in sync. I was just about to call you!"

Abigail couldn't help but smile. "I have good news to tell you!"

"I have good news too. I just got a call from VirtualBank saying I've been officially hired!" Tricia said.

Abigail chuckled, "That's what I was going to tell you. Now you can finally relax, right? Henry isn't the type to hold a grudge."

Tricia snorted, arrogantly, "I'll let it slide this time!"

She was very magnanimous!
