Chapter 101 Decision

What a grand gesture! Only Sebastian could have created such a lavish rose banquet with such a heavy investment.

In the hospital corridor, the sounds of admiration and envy continued to rise and fall. The young nurses were all fluttering with excitement, almost wanting to replace Sebastian's leading lady today.

Sebastian's leading lady? Brooklyn chuckled self-deprecatingly. Was he hosting this grand banquet at the hospital just to make Megan smile?

Brooklyn didn't dwell on it any longer. The more she thought about it, the more uncomfortable she felt. She simply pushed through the bustling crowd and squeezed into the elevator.

Leaning against the cold iron wall of the elevator, she closed her eyes. What a stark contrast! He had never shown her any tenderness, but he was so gentle with Megan.

As the elevator doors opened, Brooklyn stepped into the changing room. Today, she was on duty, and thankfully, as soon as she entered the duty room, the world seemed clean and quiet.

Little did she know, as soon as she changed into her white coat, a phone call rang.

"Dr. Mitchell, come to the ward! The patient in bed 202 is in trouble."

202?

Faith, who was admitted yesterday, had congenital heart disease and had undergone a stent surgery. The doctors advised against her having children, but she and her husband loved children so much that they were willing to risk their lives to have a baby.

She was now almost seven months pregnant. Brooklyn had seen it; it was a baby boy, developing well. But as the fetus grew, it put pressure on the pregnant woman's heart. When she was brought in yesterday, her heartbeat was weak, and her blood pressure dropped suddenly. Her husband had been by her side, begging Brooklyn to save the woman, but she mustered the last of her strength, held Brooklyn's hand tightly, and begged Brooklyn to save the baby.

The scene from yesterday replayed in Brooklyn's mind. She grabbed her phone and ran. "Prepare the ventilator and resonator quickly!"

"Okay!"

Brooklyn ran to the ward. The patients who had spoken harshly to her before all stepped back, some still wary, afraid that Brooklyn might retaliate. But Brooklyn's heart was only with the patient now.

The nurse stood by the patient's bed, at a loss for what to do. Brooklyn pushed the nurse aside, bent down to listen to the pregnant woman's heartbeat, and then quickly opened her eyes to check her eye whites. The patient's heartbeat was rapidly dropping on the monitor, and signs of life were disappearing.

"Dr. Mitchell, the patient needs a pacemaker!" Dario reminded Brooklyn.

"No, a pacemaker will harm the baby in her belly. Get this!" She handed the stethoscope around her neck to the nurse, clasped her hands tightly, and pressed hard on the patient's heart, shouting with each compression.

"Faith Murphy, wake up! Faith Murphy, for your child, for the baby in your belly, you must wake up! Can you hear my voice? Can you hear me?"

Brooklyn seemed to have gone mad. She looked at Faith's swollen belly. Inside was a child, their precious baby cherished by the couple, and the little life Faith had longed for three years but couldn't have.

Brooklyn felt as if Faith's child's fate was already intertwined with hers. As she pressed hard, fine beads of sweat appeared on her forehead, dripping onto Faith's face with a patter.

The other patients in the ward were stunned by Brooklyn's desperate efforts to save Faith. They stared blankly at Brooklyn as if watching a female warrior confronting the Grim Reaper.

At the same time, patients from other wards rushed over to watch the commotion outside the door.

After all, Brooklyn was a woman. Pressing on the heart required a lot of physical strength, and soon, her arms grew weak, unable to exert any more force. But she gritted her teeth and refused to give up. "Faith Murphy, wake up! Your baby is waiting for you. He's waiting for you!"

A male doctor nearby couldn't bear to watch anymore, pulled the frantic Brooklyn away, and continued to press on the patient's heart.

The two male doctors took turns, and after more than ten minutes, Faith finally had a heartbeat.

"Dr. Mitchell, we've restored the heartbeat and pulse! Faith's stabilized!"

The nurse shouted excitedly, and Brooklyn felt as if all her strength had been drained. Her body went limp, and her back slammed hard against the wall. If she hadn't leaned against the wall, she would have fallen to the ground long ago.

The patients in the ward and the crowded patients outside the door spontaneously applauded, using their applause to show their admiration and gratitude for Brooklyn.

Many patients said that if they hadn't witnessed Brooklyn's scene of saving a life, they wouldn't understand how well-suited this woman was to be a doctor. She was born to defy the Grim Reaper.

Faith's husband had just gone out to buy fruit, and upon seeing this scene, the fruit fell to the ground with a thud. He hurried over to see Faith, and upon hearing the nurse's explanation, Faith's husband grabbed Brooklyn and thanked her profusely.

But Brooklyn's face didn't show relief.

She felt it necessary to tell him the truth.

Brooklyn stood on the quiet balcony and explained Faith's condition to him, "Faith needs surgery now. Otherwise, as the fetus grows larger, her original stent won't be able to support it. Do you know what that means?"

Faith's husband nodded, his eyes red with tears. "Dr. Mitchell, please, please save my wife, I beg you!"

Brooklyn nodded, and after leaving the ward, she felt lost. Faith's stent was not only unable to support her anymore, but she also had internal bleeding, causing cardiac tamponade. According to the internal medicine treatment, they could only wait for the bleeding to stop naturally.
