Chapter 417 Sebastian, I miss you
Sebastian's wife?
Who didn't know that Sebastian's wife had already died in Jabari? And now he was talking about his wife?
Was he kidding?
Lawrence wanted to grab Sebastian by the collar again, but before he could reach out, Sebastian grabbed his wrist, his gaze as sharp as a blade, making Lawrence shake off his arm.
"Sebastian, you want to call off the engagement, but your reason is too far-fetched! Using Brooklyn, who has been dead for more than two years, as an excuse!"
In a fit of rage, Lawrence spoke without thinking. As soon as he opened his mouth, everyone gasped. Lawrence dared to speak to Sebastian like that, he must have a death wish!
Sebastian surveyed the grand and magnificent hall, with hundreds of people all focused on him.
Not to mention the other guests, even Jennifer and Brian couldn't help but hold their breath.
Sebastian, what kind of game was he playing?
Sebastian adjusted his tie and this time, gave Lawrence some face, "When I got engaged to Megan, everyone remembers the situation, right?"
With just a hint, many people's memories returned to that scene.
Instantly, there was dead silence.
Megan had already cried herself into a mess, covering her mouth but not daring to cry out loud. Everything today was a ticking time bomb planted back then, and she had always fantasized that this bomb would never go off in her lifetime.
Sebastian no longer had any reservations, "My engagement to Megan wasn't based on love. Ending the engagement is the responsible thing for both of us, not to mention..."
He finally cast a glance at the sobbing Megan, his eyes deepening. Megan's unwavering love for him gave Sebastian a headache. If he didn't make a clean break, she might misunderstand even more.
"As everyone knows, my wife died in an accident two years ago, which is not true. Just recently, I found her. I am married, so naturally, I will not have any engagement with anyone else."
Quinn took a sip of his drink.
It was evident that Sebastian's manner of handling things today was already very courteous. He wasn't a man who typically yielded or was tolerant. His words were elegant and aloof, yet without a trace of arrogance. Remarkably, he had the patience to explain so much.
For the Turner family, being called off the engagement was the biggest consolation.
James said, "I didn't expect your brother to have such a good temper."
"That's because he doesn't want to completely disgrace the Turner family right now. But your uncle is really clueless. How many times has he been humiliated trying to get your cousin to marry my brother?"
"Don't say things like that."
Quinn sneered, "Do you also feel embarrassed to have such relatives?"
He continued to hold up his phone to record the video, "It's a pity that in such a lively occasion today, there isn't a reporter. My brother is really too kind to the Turner family."
If there were reporters and it was exposed that the Turner family was called off the engagement, the Turner Group's stock price would probably plummet when the market opened tomorrow.
"What did Sebastian just say? Wife? Could it be that Brooklyn isn't dead? Then she now..." Jennifer suddenly felt a chill.
Brian snorted, "It's still uncertain."
A sudden thud broke the dead silence in the hall.
Megan fainted on the cold, hard floor in a fit of rage. Piper quickly squatted down to support Megan, "Megan!"
"Megan! My daughter!"
Karen screamed as she ran to Megan's side, her heart aching and resisting her anger. She held Megan's face in her hands, tears streaming down her face, "You fool, with so many men out there, why did you fall for Sebastian?"
Karen was angry and complaining, but in front of Sebastian, she had no way to fight back. She didn't dare to openly confront Sebastian, so she could only curse indirectly.
Megan slowly woke up, blinking several times before seeing the face in front of her, "Mom." As soon as Megan spoke, her voice was choked with sobs, breaking Karen's heart.
Piper gritted her teeth. She wanted to scold Megan for bringing this upon herself, but seeing Megan like this, she couldn't bear it, "Megan, how do you feel?"
Megan forced herself to hold on, gripping Piper's hand tightly, "Piper, help me up."
Sebastian frowned. He was already reluctant to deal with the aftermath of tonight's events, but after tonight, these matters would be completely out of his world.
Jennifer, not understanding, angrily wanted to step forward, but if she publicly rebuked her son in front of the Turner family, it would disgrace the Kingsley family.
Jennifer's anger and frustration turned into a clenched fist, "Honey, Sebastian suddenly called off the engagement with Megan, and on such an occasion tonight, didn't he tell you?"
Brian, tired, glanced at the guests in the hall who were all talking, "When has he ever discussed anything with me?"
What he said left Jennifer speechless.
Indeed, ever since Brooklyn's accident, Sebastian had done everything according to his own will. In business, no one doubted his ability, but in matters of the heart...
Thinking about it, Jennifer felt a chill. What he did today was probably to retaliate for being forced into the engagement ceremony back then, right?
Jennifer's head spun with dizziness.
Quinn put down his phone, saved the video he had just recorded, and shook the wine glass in his hand, putting both feet up on the opposite sofa, "Mr. Rivera, it seems you knew Scarlett was Brooklyn too?"
James took a sip of his drink, leaning against the sofa, exuding the arrogance and devil-may-care attitude of a nobleman, "If you know about it, of course I do too. But there's one thing I don't understand."
Quinn looked up, "What is it?"
"As far as I know, you really like Scarlett and even pursued her. Now that you know she's your Brooklyn, shouldn't you be heartbroken, and then finding a place to hide in embarrassment and shame?"
Quinn finished his drink, put down the empty glass, and flicked his suit, "Why should I drown my sorrows? Scarlett is such a perfect woman, and she still ended up in our Kingsley family. The one who should be heartbreaking is you. You pursued my sister-in-law and got rejected all the time, and now you have nothing to show for it."
James gritted his teeth, "Mr. Quinn Kingsley, you really don't hold back when you speak!"
Quinn shrugged, stood up, and let out a satisfied burp, "What is 'holding back'? I wasn't good at school; the teacher never taught me that."
With that, Quinn put his hands in his pockets and casually walked over to Brian. By now, his father must be furious.
Megan walked up to Sebastian, looking up at his chiseled features, the king who looked down on everything under the crystal chandelier.
"Sebastian, is what you said true?"
"Yes."
"Then, have you ever thought that Brooklyn is no longer your wife?"
Sebastian's eyes narrowed. How could Megan know?
Megan knowing this made Sebastian even angrier!
Megan bit her lip, waiting for his response.
"It seems you already know Brooklyn's identity. Since you know, it's best to stay away from Brooklyn in the future." Sebastian said.
"Sebastian, how can you treat me like this? I've done so much for you, we even had a child together, and you don't even..."
Before Megan could finish her heartache, Sebastian sneered coldly, "Enough! Don't try to anger me, and don't make trouble for yourself."
A child?
After Brooklyn's incident he hadn't memoried many things. He didn't want to reopen his wounds.
He admitted that when it came to Brooklyn, he was full of vulnerabilities, easily hit.
But now, he would investigate everything thoroughly, one by one.
"Mommy, you're awake. How do you feel?"
Diana, who had been unconscious, opened her eyes and felt relieved when she saw Scarlett. She grabbed Scarlett's hand, which was still receiving an IV, "I dreamed that you left."
As she spoke, Diana's eyes became moist, a layer of mist spreading from her lifeless eyes.
Scarlett's nose stung with bitterness, her eyes hot with tears that almost fell. She held Diana's hand in return, "Mommy, look, I'm right here with you, aren't I? I'll always be with you."
Diana held her hand tightly, nodding with tears, forcing a smile, "I'm really scared that when I open my eyes, you'll be gone. Promise me, don't leave me, okay?"
The bond of family, wrapped around Scarlett's heart, inseparable, Scarlett nodded with effort, "Okay. Are you hungry? What do you want to eat?"
Diana shook her head, "When you were in Libertya, was there any dish you liked? I haven't had Libertya's food in a long time, I want to try it."
"Sure! I even learned a few dishes. When Daddy comes, I'll go home and make them for you, okay?"
As she said this, Leon came in, followed by Barry and Leah.
Scarlett lowered her head. Now that her engagement with Kevin was called off, the King family would probably take a lot of actions, right?
Leah anxiously walked to the window, bending down with concern, "Feeling any better?"
Scarlett was surprised. Shouldn't she be making a scene in the hospital room?
However, Barry and Leon were chatting amicably in the outer living room, showing no signs of any issues.
Scarlett directly suspected that Kevin hadn't told them the truth at all.
"Mr. King, Mrs. King, I'll go home first to prepare some food for Mommy." Scarlett's eyes were red, clearly showing she had been crying.
Leah turned around, "Wait for me a moment."
Scarlett's heart skipped a beat, it seemed...
Leah walked Scarlett out of the hospital room, holding Scarlett's hand, her smile somewhat regretful, "Kevin has already told me. This isn't your fault. He has deep feelings for you, but he never understood your thoughts. You don't want to marry him, probably because he isn't that lucky."
Scarlett was moved by Leah's generosity, feeling guilty, "No, it's my fault. Kevin is a good man."
Leah instead mocked herself, "Maybe. But no matter how good he is, it doesn't matter if you don't like him. I really like you. Promise me, whether or not you become my daughter-in-law in the future, don't cut ties with me."
"Okay, I promise you."
Feeling complicated, Scarlett left the hospital and hailed a cab.
Her phone rang.
From the time she sent the text until now, three hours had passed. Was his reaction time that slow?
Sebastian sat in the car, far away from the Royal Club.
"Congratulations, good things come in pairs."
His deep, mellow voice was as pleasant as a frozen world meeting the warmth of spring.
Scarlett, exhausted, leaned against the back seat, her head resting on the headrest. She hadn't slept all night; she was very tired and sleepy. She hummed softly, almost like she was pouting but with a hint of stubbornness, "Sebastian, I suddenly miss you too."
