Chapter 52 Sabotaging My Benevolence

"Impossible..." Kelly's voice quivered with dread. She had just fervently castigated Sebastian, but upon laying eyes on him, her thoughts scattered to the wind.

Brooklyn, her face half-concealed behind her hand, lowered her gaze. "Don't look in that direction. We'll seize an opportunity to slip away later."

Numbly, Kelly nodded, managing to utter, "Alright."

"Mr. Kingsley?" The man who had just rattled off a series of figures to Sebastian, after a prolonged silence, tentatively prodded him.

The others present also noted Sebastian's apparent distraction, echoing the earlier statement. Sebastian's gaze was not directed at the table, but rather at a woman dining, a behavior that was decidedly uncharacteristic of him. Yet, each time he lowered his gaze, he was reminded of the figure that irked him.

"The profits for this quarter cannot be considered in isolation. Mr. Moore must provide income statements for the past two years. The board of directors of MBK Group will then conduct a thorough evaluation."

Sebastian's response was indifferent, his demeanor icy, yet he pinpointed the crux of the matter. The attendees were doubtful whether Sebastian had paid heed to their proposal, but they couldn't help but admire his acuity.

Having addressed the inquiries, Sebastian's gaze inadvertently drifted towards the window. He noticed Brooklyn and Kelly gathering their belongings from the sofa, bending over in preparation to depart.

He realized they were about to leave.

As he watched Brooklyn's figure readying to exit, a faint smile graced Sebastian's lips, devoid of his usual indifference.

"Mr. Kingsley, what would you like to order? The restaurant's signature dish is..."

An executive of middle age, menu in hand, took the initiative to approach Sebastian from behind and suggest dishes. Others joined in, attempting to pique Sebastian's interest.

Sebastian's piercing gaze briefly scanned the menu, his stoic face betraying no emotion. He simply informed the others, "I won't be staying for dinner. I have other matters to attend to."

"Mr. Kingsley..." Several individuals rose nervously as Sebastian stood. With ingratiating smiles, they hastily apologized, "Is there something you're dissatisfied with? If you have any requests, please inform us, we'll do our utmost to accommodate."

Sebastian methodically fastened a button on his Armani suit and rose. "My personal affairs are not your concern."

His tone was casual yet firm. Sebastian cast a cold glance at the revolving glass door, striding away with an air of authority, not permitting anyone to utter another word.

The remaining individuals exchanged glances, their mouths clamped shut as they watched the retreating figure. The atmosphere grew taut and stifling, their fear so intense it left them breathless.

Kelly, having fled the restaurant, gasped for breath, clutching her chest as though in need of resuscitation. "I was scared out of my wits! Brooklyn, why does he haunt you like a specter?"

"Who was the brave soul who just vented her anger on my behalf? Where's your courage now?" Brooklyn retorted, tapping her forehead in disdain.

"Even in war, one must assess the strength of both sides, right? Sebastian and I are leagues apart. If I were to give him a piece of my mind, my fate would be sealed. You wouldn't want me to die, would you?"

Kelly drew a finger across her throat, mimicking a beheading gesture, and stuck out her tongue, feigning a reluctance to die. Brooklyn laughed heartily. "Alright, how could I let you sacrifice yourself for me? Are you still hungry? Let's find another place to eat!"

As she finished speaking, Brooklyn seized Kelly's hand, preparing to depart.

"Where are you going?"

A chilling, ominous voice echoed from behind. Despite the distance, Brooklyn could already sense the impending danger.

Both Kelly and Brooklyn froze in their tracks.

The atmosphere grew tense!

Kelly's mouth hung open, stuck in a silent scream. Brooklyn furrowed her brow and turned to face Sebastian.

Backlit, Sebastian stood tall in his black, high-end suit, one hand casually tucked into his trouser pocket. His handsome features were set in a forbidding expression, his gaze frosty, his lips pressed into a tight line.

"What a coincidence."

Brooklyn forced a smile, as though she had merely bumped into him by accident. She concealed her unease behind her smile, making it difficult for anyone to suspect otherwise.

A coincidence?

Sebastian remained expressionless. He descended the stairs and commanded icily, "Follow me."
Dear CEO, Please Be Gentle!
